Thanks for posting this . Good to know it's an easy fix(rig). I just changed my tail light lenses and the seat latch broke so my happy car improvement feeling turned into bummed out. Now I'm happy again 😁
Nice repair . More reliable than the factory handle which can break at any time . Every vw I've had was full of repairs like this . Mine is also the driver's side rear and I'm sure the passenger side is right behind it .
You are awesome! This was so frustrating. In the end I took a long scissor and shoved into the little space from behind the backseat, to lever up the hook. Thanks again 🙏🙏
Dec .. I noticed that you bent the end of the spoke into a modified "tee" configuration. Thus .. I suppose you could call your fix a ... (wait for it) .. a "Golf Tee" ! :)
I appreciate this video. My 2004 MK4 GTI has the same seats. The right rear seat is stuck in the upright and locked position. The external lock release handle is installed. However, it has become disconnected from the internal lock release linkage. Do you have advice on how to fix this issue? Unsure how to disconnect the external handle. However, even if the handle can be removed, I need to be able to access the internal lock release while the seat is in the upright and locked position. The method you demonstrated does not seem to be an option because I do not have access to bend a coat hangar or bicycle wheel spoke after it is pushed through the small guide hole just above and to the side of the seat release lock. Thanks in advance for any advice you're able to provide.
@@TheHeyhenners Regretfully, I do not have a permanent fix. My workaround was to use a large screwdriver in the same way demonstrate in the video. After I got it unlocked, I no longer put the seat upright. I never use the back seats, so it's not an issue for me. Sometimes I prefer to have the seats up in order to maintain privacy for whatever I put in my trunk. In those cases, I position the seat so that it's almost in the locked position. I wedge a rag between the two parts of the internal lock so they do not lock. Our cars are just getting to that age where things break and there's no easy fix. There have been times when I wanted to take the rear seats out and turn the entire back end into a flat bed, with access panels for the spare tire and fuel pump which is under the rear seats.
