Thanks John. It was challenge making this video that's for sure! For the adhesive, I used 3M hi-strength 90 and I purchased the foam backed fabric roll on eBay. Unfortunately, I didn't make a refit video and I wish that I would've since I've had a few requests for one. I chose to purchase black headliner fabric, which still looks good to this day (I did this job about 5 years ago). This job requires lots of patience, but you can do it if you really want to. I would do it again if I had to. Good luck with everything if you decide to take the challenge.

Mine came off really easy. I used a clean rag and kept wiping the old foam off. It is a mess, but it only took me about 20 minutes.

I used a old flip flop- rubber easily scapes foam off

Cory Mondics well that was a nightmare, the A pillar wouldnt detatch, you never showed how the B pillars detach the C pillar doesnt even make sense how it is attached but i got further on that one than A and B, and tons of clips broke...still a good video, i just hate my car now lol

Well, I am glad that you got it removed, and yes I could've been more explicit on how to remove the B pillars. Those clips do suck though!

@@Corysdiyauto Having had to remove this type of foam from various trim items I can assure you the word "Easy" doesn't come to mind. I have found that just using dry lint free cloth will remove most of the foam. A horrible, time consuming and tedious job.

Cory Mondics I did the removal today. Came out good. Your video was super helpful. I also fixed the sunroof drain. I had pulled off the drain tube about 10 years back. Still had the tube and with the headliner off it was easy to put it back on. I love my 2000 GTI VR6. It's got 384K miles on it. I think the headliner will probably outlast the car. Let's see what the future holds. Thx again for a super video.

@@Corysdiyauto Headliner done will post some pic's - came out pretty good couple of the interior lights did not come out like factory (oh well). There were a couple of nuances with the sunroof shade slider as I had to get that off to do the upholstery, but I was able to tackle it. AGAIN YOUR VIDEO WAS SUPER EASY TO FOLLOW AND WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL. THANKS AGAIN.

supasoul20 I got the headliner fabric on eBay. Make sure that you get the foam backed liner. It's not that expensive either. I used 3M hi-strength 90 contact adhesive spray to adhere the fabric to the liner.

supasoul20 Now, to adhere the fabric to the liner is the tricky part. I should've made a video of this, but I didn't. Do one half of the liner at a time. Lay the fabric on the liner, then fold in half with the foam facing up. Then spray both the fabric and the headliner board and wait about 3 minutes. Next, fold the fabric down on to the headliner board and gently use your hands and press down on the fabric. Be sure to work your way from the center out. Make sure that you have enough fabric hanging over the edges. It's better to have more than enough. You can always cut the excess off. Good luck with it!

@@Corysdiyauto i get it man, its hard to work on cars with 2 hands sometimes so with one hand recording and the other pulling parts apart its even more difficult.

Jeff Qureashi - My Golf is not equipped with air bags in the side pillars. I didn't disconnect the battery when I removed the headliner either. It's not necessary.

W - I will have to make a video on that. I didn't film that part unfortunately.

@@Corysdiyauto thanks for your reply! any chance you could just roughly describe it for me? I'm just trying to remove the headliner,,, so can I just pull outwards on the top end of the trim where it contacts the edge of the headliner?

@@user-rw5wj1xe1o - Once you remove the seat belt, then you have to pry the b - pillar away from the body of the car. I believe that I started at the top and worked my way down. It's held in there pretty good! Just slowly work your fingers behind it and gently pull out towards you. I hope that helps.

@@mellowbeings2175 - It's easier if you have a helper, but you can do it yourself with some patience. The worst part for me was prepping the headliner and gluing the new fabric into place. I just simply don't like that type of work, but it needed to be done. It all paid off in the end though.

@@Corysdiyauto yeah it's worth a shot my headliner looks terrible I have MK4 golf TDI 1.9 turbo diesel it's only had 2 owners from new so it's not to bad some old boy was selling it. It has a few marks and the sides because he lived out in the country side so it's from all the bushes and the driver side wing is rusty around the arch but I have a new one now that needs putting on there decent cars they just have rust problems

@@mellowbeings2175 - I understand that. Mine has rust that needs fixed on the rockers and rear hatch near the handle. I love the car though!
