Volkswagen Passat Estate: The Perfect Allrounder? 

A proper estate car: who needs a SUV if you can have one of these. The 2.0 litre 148 bhp diesel is a good compromise between performance and economy .

Last week I bought a 2019 Passat 2.0 150hp R Line DSG 7 gear (as a replacement for my trusty but aging 2011 2.0 Bluemotion) and I am very pleased indeed. I need a larger car for my business and this is a no brainer for me, it's the third model I have driven and I think they are a very reliable and economical car, super comfortable for long journeys and roomy as heck. This new one has only done 18500 miles from new so is well under average. I haven't had an automatic before so I wasn't too sure about this, but I love it and it makes driving in slow traffic easier ... but I can always knock it into manual if I want (hint: I don't). Driving it is ECO mode this past week gets me over 61mpg. Plus it still has the lovely analogue clock. May this car keep going for many more decades!

In my opinion all modern cars looks good as estate cars (now they are called touring cars)no like used to.

Great video, I've a 2.0 TDI 150 BHP DSG 2018, 182. Couple of videos on my channel about it if interested, Passat saloon now gone, according to VW it will live on only as estate. My car has LED matrix headlights, so when it sees a car coming it can split the beam, heated seats front and back and heated steering wheel, massage function drivers seats, 4 cameras, front back and one each side, foldable tow bar, easy open boot, just wave foot underneath and it opens, button to close. 19 inch Verona alloys, updated 7 speed wet clutch dsg, launch control, android auto and apple CarPlay, satnav, self parking, blind spot monitoring, digital cockpit, memory seats, you can play games on it when you're stopped etc. Rear cross traffic alert, maneuvering assist, so if it thinks I'm too close to an object it will slam the brakes if I'm going too fast in reverse, there's tons more. Great cars, hope VW do keep them in some form, hate to see them die off.

Great review Dan. I bought the B5 passat red 1.9 TDI model a no of years ago, no issue with engine, faultless, did have a minor gearbox issue but loved the grunt of that vw engine. Thinking of investing in an estate diesel but also considering the gte passat. I'm not sure on reliability / if the gte hybrid will hold its value

your reviewing an estate and notreviewing the boot space? its what make makes estate different to saloons, other than that good review seriously planning to get one of these after hearing all the horror stories of bmw tourings
