Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 at Poland, driven using Logitech g29 with a new homemade handbrake and a sequential shifter in Dirt Rally 2.0. The car is driven without any assists. The small screen near the shifter is my smartphone running SIMdashboard app. Enjoy the video.

Watching this just made me realise how good rally drivers really are. They are constantly changing up and down gears, one hand on the wheel at times whilst cornering, its actually a petty amazing skill and with the speed with no room for error... just awesome. You'd think in today's rally people would use either tuned automatic or the steeringwheel paddle gear change but no still good old stick shift! 😲

The reason there will never be automatic rally cars is because in some corners you need high refs. An automatic car will shift up in that situation. And it’s almost impossible to find your pedal shifters since you’re throwing your steer around all the time.

No doubt the guy is good at this game but people need to understand that it's literally his life. To game. If you had a channel with 600k subs you would play all day and you too would be this good (assuming you had the same motor skills as this guy). I consider myself happy that my 3rd try I made 4:45 (-10.5s/sector) . . . I am still not good enough to go much lower than that now. (prob 1 gear up/turn). my time is without assistances and as far as I noticed, assistance dont really help improving, just help you keep the car on track at certain conditions but when I get used without assistances, I cant drive with, car change too much.

There are moments where you can tell it's clearly higher than that, like at 2:30 where he rotates it fully and turns it 90 degrees past that.

No assists were used. You don't have to use the clutch when you use the e-brake for sequential transmission cars. The computer does it automatically. Not the case with manual transmission tho
