Nice video. Just one little thing that Matt forgot to mention about the picasso. There is extra room at the back behind the last seats and under. We traveled this summer, one baby, 3 adults, 3 kids, we still managed to fit 4 cabin lugages at the back and one in front of the baby seat. Also the JBL sound system is pretty good :)
I don't really see the point of having climate controls within the touch / infotainment system. I really like the fact that if having a real button, lever or knob I can go always to same spot without even looking, without having to go thru a menu or screens.
Citroen is my winner. Clean Motor! Miles per Imperial Gallon: 40 in summary.I just bought one on March 2016, but the last model year . And I have to say that is an enjoyable car to ride and drive.I like cruising and sportive driving. - German motorways are somtimes free for high speed driving with three lanes. A fantastic car with 150 hp. The Exclusive model is an excellent choice. The seats are much easier as you do!
I have driven both as rental cars. The Citroen and the VW. The Picasso feels two classes higher in terms of ride, comfort and interior. It also has the best stock stereo i've ever come across (JBL) and its navigation was better (more accurate) than that of the Touran.
The Carens being the oldest is quite normal to be lacking in certain aspects. It is no surprise the Touran wins hands down because it is a brand new model based on a new platform.
I had the last Touran. Then bought the C4 Grand Picasso.... I liked it more than the Touran, but the children and most rear passengers get car sick. Really car sick!! Too much roll.
Very good review, better than carbuyer definitely,I think opposite from Math, the design of Touran is dull only from front, the back actually looks modern and sharp...
VW tends to make best cars in its class all the time. Too bad haters gonna claim it's too boring (which I don't think it is, it's just more grown up. And you can always get a Golf GTI/R for driving pleasure) or not reliable (which is just isn't true from my and people I know experience).
We have a 07 grand Picasso and we love it, none of these cars cars seem like a worthwhile upgrade, no extra features to make life easier, just pointless extra tech and yes we are the only people ever to get the 2.0 petrol with egs transmission and we love it, spend another £25k? Nope...see how long this one lasts even at £1000 year in repairs should they be needed that takes me to retirement, I don't want carplay, I want small repair bills so based on this kia wins, still won't spend the money for the new car smell though when our 07 does the same thing!
I like how he pretends the Citroens seats are hard to use when is has in fact one of the easiest systems on the market. I know because I have used many of them. The review is biased towards the VW because of the badge and because it is new, the Citroen offers the most for a family, and also you need to consider that price is more of a large factor for families, who wants to fork out more than£22,000 for a boring touran?
The annoying thing about the Citroen's seats are all the little carpet flaps you have to move about. It's still a great car though and one of the best-value 7 seaters you can get. Also you can get great C4 Grand Picasso deals on carwow - should you wish.
+carwow I agree it is a bit fiddly / the whole car is very er...French. Having said that like for like spec with a Touran and looking for a discount you'll be paying a lot less for the Picasso. That design is deal sealer too. Both great cars but I prefer a bit of character.
then my friend, you didnt understand the concept of those carpets, same as the narrator. You dont have to, you CAN!!! Try that with the VW, you get flat ground in C4 Picasso, while you get bumpy ground full of holes in VW. Yes, you can just fold those seats of Picasso and get similar outcome as with VW.
Madigor FKGoogle - exactly!! Citroen Picasso covers all the gaps. However, I do have to agree on the pulling straps...quite irritating and takes some getting used to.
At least put a S/C-Max in it... because my Touran 2011 drives great, I haven't found anything more comfortable, but now it reaches 10 years it's 1 repair after another. After 170k a new (double) clutch went in and I am looking at a revision of pistonrings. Over the past few years I tried bmx, alfa stelvio, renault grand scenic, tiguan, audi etc. but I drive home smiling in my Touran. The seats are great, it's quiet and it floats over the tarmac. So it probably grew on me but looking for another better brand which reaches the standard of comfort and practical use as the Touran!
i like the exterior looks of the Citroen C4 "GRAND" Picasso (it sound's better this way), but the interior ( the dash and the cubby holes) it's a big NO-NO, by the way the "race" did not end very FLAT (like the others) for the VW Touran !!!!
the reason families commonly buy SUVs instead of MPVs is because they tend to be more stylish, and frankly the touran is kind of a failure in that sense, since now itll lose customers to bettet looking 7 seat suvs.
I don't know why the touran wins because the disign is just like all other vw (not very new) and for me the Picasso is, at least, as practical and confy than the Touran. Maybe we can say that the Touran equalize with the Picasso but we CAN'T say that the Picasso is worse than the Touran
Sure the VW might not be the most exciting choice but the most sensible one when you consider resale value, better built quality and money spent where it matters. Your Kia/Citroen will look outdated in a few years, not with the VW.
@@pabinmagar3520 i have a grand picasso and also had the last gen. Great cars and are very happy. I have the 2015 model and it still looks brand new. I think its a good buy
Tried both a C4 grand Picasso and a Touran. Sorry the Touran is miles better. The dashboard layout is no nonsense and logical with clean lines. Middle seats are nice and big. Rear seats have loads of head room. Closing the doors, you have that airtight sound which will reduce road noise. Sound system is good, lcd screen is quick and responsive. Really good overall MPV no matter how boring the exterior looks.
to each their own... the C4 is way quieter at 130kph, easyer to drive and you wont feel like you got a sure ass after a long drive, i also preffer the dashboard layout and the speedometer location wasnt really an issue after a few hours of driving... in fact i think its in a more logical spot since it sits higher than the standard spedometer and you see more of the road if you look at it... i dont get your point with the middle rear seat ... you dont get more room than that in any car.... but did you check the chassis becouse VW is pretty bad with their greese coatings and they start to rust in less than a year while citroen has superb factory coating this didnt come out of my ass... i baught 2 tourans and 4 grand picassos for my firm and i had no issues with the citroens other than a faulty batery not to mention my workers preffer to drive them over the VW.... with the VW i hard to change a timing belt, fuel pumps and i had to take them to get the chasis coated so that they are protected from the elements since VW is just crap with that
@@RePlayBoy101my colleague's 2017 Touran TDI is going on six years with zero issues while my friends' C4 Picassos have all been in the workshop for engine oil leaks, injector failures, battery charge controller failures and that famous PSA adblue tank failure which cost $2000 a pop in this country. The local owner community is up in arms about it. French cars gonna be French cars.
@@lde2100 Well for me it isn't. If I had to choose between a car that is avarage in reliability but interesting, or a car with top notch reliability but a lot less interesting, I'd still pick the less reliable car. With interesting I mean good looks on the exterior AND interior, it should be fast and nimble enough, smooth working and current technology for comfort and usability on the road. Yes i'd pick the Picasso over the Touran or Kia any day. But not because of it's reliability.
@@Astke Reliability ranks lower for you than interesting? Ok. Guess you haven't been stranded before on the roadside or in a situation when your car wouldn't start in the morning.
@@mouselim72 nope. I havent. Even my father who has had various cars on lease for 4-5 years each and around 150k KM was never stranded. Even on long journeys. Spoiler alert, none of them were Japanese or Korean and one was even a 2010 BMW 3 series. 0 issues. Not even electronics. So... cars can't be fun or "fancy" and run well? Don't think so. Given the situation, of course, I will always regret buying a reliable car that I don't really enjoy/like more than buying a less reliable car that I love.
Great review really informative info thanks Matt, i have chosen the C4 Picasso got a bargain 2015 with 12,000 miles ex mobility with 2 years Citreon dealership warranty remaining on it plus 2 years added warranty cover from the car sales i bought it from so 4 years warranty cover and its the 1.6 diesel exclusive model 120bhp all for £12,000 for a car that cost £32,000 12 months ago lol the Touran was more expensive tbh,
I'm just about to trade my 2012 Touran 1.6SE DSG with 73,000miles on the clock for a 2017 1.7cdi DCT Carens with 46,000 miles. I've had the Touran for two years and it is absolutely the most troublesome and unreliable car I've ever owned. It spent more time in the garage than on my drive. Here's the list; water-pump, EGR Valve, ABS pump and finally gearbox. Apparently mine was the DQ200, apparently notoriously failure prone if not serviced every 40,000 miles, but mine had been and it still packed up. With repairs running at £5000 in two years (half of what I paid for the car) It had to go. I'll miss the elevated seat position, but that's all. I definitely won't miss waiting for yet another orange light to come on in the dash. My day to day runabout is a diesel C3 - 83,000 miles and it never goes wrong. I chose Kia over Citroen because of the warranty. Peace of mind!
@@sl077766 Yes look at those German cars now. 20 years ago u could call them cars now u call them rust buckets. Mercedes, BMW they not what they used to be Volkswagen well its more pricey then it used to be but its still something i wouldnt buy. I always did like the style of the French cars or reliability of Japanese cars. Germans lack style and they not reliable anymore. Its like u need to buy a new one every 5 years if you dont want to spend ure days in a garage after that.
@@sl077766 he bought a diesel, diesels nowadays are restrained by all of the filters and adblue, buying a diesel today makes no sense because all of them have problems.
It is completely normal on a dry clutch gearbox to change the clutches every now and again, this happens on all dct dry. Car companies prefer them over a torque converter because they are cheaper to make and have lower C02 emissions. On more powerful engines 250nm+ dct gearboxes have wet clutches which are very reliable but a bit overkill on a 1.6L engine. I don't see why it's the end of the world to change the clutches which are not expensive every now and again, it makes up for the fuel consumption.
Nice review, felt you were way too harsh on the VW's styling and the Picasso was just odd for being odds sake and I thought it was the Kia that was the dullest. Still it's just one own opinion so..
You know the Picasso is not bad at all. The Touran is very cool because it has more space and very wide. The Kia carens is little bit very good but the caren boot is so small it's also new
what? Touran more quiet than picasso!? Heeeeeelll nooooo!!! I had touran previously and my ears were bleeding on motorways. Picasso is much quieter really and that practicality test didn't tell anything but he didnt know how to operate seats. Thats why you have the manual and need get to use to move those seats... its really quit easy when you know what youre doing. And then again, whats the rush? few secs out of my life doesnt mean anything....
Just love the cruising of the Touran. I would not trade it for anything else. Kudos. The fact that I can also attend to my calls through Bluetooth helps on long drives. The seats are comfortable, great fuel consumption and peformance. Yeah! Great family car. Ranking has no effect on me rather the utility of the vehicle. I love the length, the space and the running.
+carwow Let me know about these fuckers Carwow and I will shitting deal with them Awoh Rastamouse I mean man seh suh Awoh Desmond's yeah mon y'all remember them I'm ATL Georgia in the states by the way to let y'all know I love my British people more than us yankees don't tell y'all that tee hee bye for now.
What a rubbish review. Really, in this class Citroen has no rivals!! VW Touran...cmon, really? And what a joke how he pretends that Citroen system for folding seats is complicated...its the easiest I have ever used. I have a Grand version with 2.0HDi(100kw)...astonishing car!
I've owned both the Kia and the VW in this test. Had the Kia Carens, and drowed it för about 100000 km. Not one single problem with, wonderful car in the long run, despite boring to drive. The Touran is nicer to drive, but absolutely horrible quality. No problem with engine or DSG gearbox, after 130000 km, but the detail quality is a joke. Also many problems with many things in the electrical system. I cant list all the problems I had with it, but if you want details, ask me. The practicality with the cars are very, very similar. The VW is a bit bigger in the booth, but not as much as Matt implies. Now I am back to Kia again, this time Optima PHEV. Never VW again, I would pay way more for a Kia than a VW, but ironacally they are cheaper.
@@lorenzofortunati Sure here are some of the problems that I had with the VW Touran: Problems with the glass sunroof that did not close completely, and sometimes rainwater would come in the car because of that. Problems with a lot of the sensors, like front assist not working, problems with the electrical handbrake. Both rear brake lights holders completely burnt out. Airbags sensors, some times showing they where out of order and 5 minutes later no problem, on and off. Problematic to close that hatch on the control panel, once opened, really hard to close had to use tape to keep it down. Glove compartment door fell off one day. Otherwise a nice car to drive. But with the Kia, not one single problem! The thing with motor journalists is that they only drive the car for maybe an hour or a weekend, so they never know how it's like to live with the car. And what you really appreciate is a car that is reliable. Good luck with your choice! 👍
@@fredrikschroder thank you! Reliability for me is very very important: I don't even want to think about my car, for me it's a tool and nothing more. The less it has, less it's going to break.
I get 38mpg out of my Citroen C4 GP but we have alot of mountains to drive on. we love it because we can get 3 kid seats on one row, without forcing the door to close.
Florin NYC it isn’t. For standard (and under 12k), my mum got an 8” touchscreen with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Mirror link. Even though carpets cost extra, our dealer gave them for free. Meanwhile, we paid like under 20k for a crappy Renault Scenic and returned it within 3 months due to many faults.
Very entertaining and quite informative. I can't see the point of criticising the lack of luggage space with all 7 seats up. If you need that, then get the full size MPVs. These are very good but large and expensive. The mid size MPVs are a very decent compromise.
I have a Grand Picaso and i find the touchscreen perfectly fine- it just takes a bit of getting used to. Defitintly better than the Touran. Plus the seating situation on the Citroen is fine- ur just impatient- rly not that big of a deal
Pierrot DMC12 Le Normand Yes there are problems trying to sell a Picasso or any French car really. So you buy your cars and keep them for 10 years? or do you just dump them as trash at age 3?
I bought the Citroen after trying the VW. Reason - it’s usable space is greater than the other 2 . I’ve now done several 640 mile journeys to France , 3 adults, 2 teenagers, a dog - in a crate and all out luggage for a three week holiday. 70-80mph on large parts of the journey. Car returned 52mpg (120bhp 1.6 diesel) . Arrived after 13 hours feeling fine, zero arguments from the children etc.
Love your videos. However, would completely disagree with your opinion about the looks of the Touran. Personally I think that one looks far smarter than the other two. Guess it just boils down to individual taste. Thanks for sharing these great videos.
I have driven every Touran and own two. Absolutely amazing cars. They're heavy but they haul ass like a sumo wrestler. Fit all your family and friends plus two dogs. The DOHC 1.6Tdi is great for A roads, the SOHC 1.9-2.0Tdis are great for motorways. Get the sports package, the alloys look great and it's nice to have good brakes.
infiltr80r - I own mine for 2 years +. It works perfectly for me too. What engine or electronics problems are they? As far as I know, which happened to one of my friends (and I have two) who owns the Picasso too, the problem is with the short battery life (suggested to change by the year).
Love how the Germans spend time on what matters, engineering. The better engine, driving feel, overall quality, interior space, and ease-of-use (look at how easy to fold down all seats!). Sure it looks dated already but it's where my money would go.
Better engines? By faking emissions tests? Driving feel? Ford and French manufacturers are better on that side. Overall quality? Yes, apart from soft-touch plastics, a Toyota is way better mechanically, on the hidden things that the user can't see. Ease-of-use? You never tried to use BMW or Mercedes infotainement. Your money goes into the badge and the uber-marketing.
+pxidr- you think the german cars have higher overall quality but not so about their engines??? My research shows the opposite. You said something about the plastic in German cars being better. My old 2000 Toyota solara SLE V6 was comparable to BMW 525i AS FAR AS FIT N FINISH and leather/wood quality but 525i had a higher performance engine. YES, the Germans make Good engine and have attractive exterior styling. Up until recently, the only BMW that came standard with real wood/leather was the 6 and 7 series. I have a book that tells all the standard/optional equipment on all cars for 2006 and the 3 and 5 series had vinyl upholstery listed as standard but real wood/ leather was optional until you got the higher level 550i and premium pkg on 3s. The only leather on a standard 3 series was the steering wheel. I also found that the leather/wood on my solara aged better then the 06 3 and 5 series I tested. Even the wood/leather on the 745i I tested aged poorly except for the one I found that had the optional upgraded wood/leather pkg. I agree when you said it has a lot to do with the badge.
