I like the VW communications Network, which in this instance probably copying this VHS-tape a 1000 times and mailing them out... I enjoy this video's. They give an insight in another timeframe. @ROVR thx for all this uploading.(And in 60fps, which gives it a much nicer viewing..)
At that time, an option other than mailing tapes out was to rent a channel on a satellite, make dealers put in 10-foot wide C-band dishes, and either stop all work in the service department and have techs watch it live, or else record it on tape. (And then you had to broadcast it several times for different worker shifts, and in case somebody forgot or messed up the recording) Some automakers did indeed do this, and it lasted into the 2000's where companies rented a channel on DBS satellites (i.e. Dish, DirectTV). I think there's at least one video on this channel which shows live questions being called in to such a show.
Idk. Maybe he was a close family friend who was promised the job by a producer who was drunk at the time; but couldn’t go back on his word because he’d known Marc since he was knee height, so had to go by his word..
my and i had the facelift model of this Passat. Im an EU technician and i've never seen those automatic seatbelt set-ups in these cars. I guess that it was only available in the U.S. market? Pretty cool! Great car. Lots of them still on the road in the EU
They were very common on U.S. Cars and in Germany or Austria they were only used at the delivery Cars for the company called "Post". If they are installed the driver can get very quick out of the car. I hope i could help you, even you ask that question 8 months ago.
A few cars did end u[ having them because they were cheaper than airbags. However there were a bunch of problems with them. You needed to put on the lap belt because if you didn't and you crashed you would slide out from under it and smash into the steering wheel and there was a risk of decapitation if you crashed since the seat belts tightened up and if you didn't have the lap belt you would go forward and into it. A law was passed in 1994 that made air bags mandatory so they became a moot point.
That's been a feature of VWs for some time, they won't run the AC compressor when it's below freezing. It could damage the compressor with flooding refrigerant.
I wish my Passat B3 had cruise control. It was not common in Europe. But it has electric power windows (4 doors), electric power sunroof, power steering, ABS and air conditioning 🙂
You guys are lucky, mine is among the first models... No ABS, no electric windows, no radio, no power steering or any fancy additions... Luckily I've got myself a good donor so we might swap some useful things 😂
Is this something people actually want to retrofit? My 91 USA spec jetta had them, they didn't fit very well, and the lap belt was always loose too because the buckle was moved forward.
