Volquest answers your Tennessee baseball, football & recruiting questions in the July 4 mailbag
00:32 ImissDenariusMoore: Can you talk to us about how this football staff builds its recruiting board? Is it something where the position coaches have more autonomy to get "their guys" or is it more of a collaborative project? Is this different from the approaches of previous staffs?
2:10 Competition Orange: In the chat it seemed like it was a given that CJH would not take Nico to SEC Media Days - why not? It seems like he would be one of the more obvious choices in recent years
8:28 RunThroughTheT: Who are some big targets early for Vol Football in the 2026 class? Outside of Fazion Brandon. Any Vol legacy’s in that class?
10:14 Could the Vols ever win a championship at this rate of always getting low rated DB’s/ safety’s?
12:13 Swagger12: IYO: Which recruit is MOST likely to commit to the vols that is not a current lean to Tenn?
16:04 RTrain98: Rank these safeties in order: Dale Carter, Deon Grant, and Eric Berry. All were obviously great players during their time at Tennessee. Do y'all have any good stories on any of them, specifically Dale Carter? I've always heard that he was a bad dude that no one wanted to mess with.
23:40 DavyVol: What is the most important coaching trait that Tony Vitello has that has allowed him to be so successful at Tennessee?
27:08 Vol Grad 05: What is the plan looking like for the entertainment district? Will it be a mini version of the Atlanta Battery with a large group watch spot for games?
32:11 ThatVolGuy: I know there's been talk of the timeline for baseball stadium renovations shifting, meaning the project won't be complete at the start of the 2025 season. But I read a comment here recently that suggested the scope of the project might be scaled down, much the same way schools like Ole Miss are delaying (or maybe even cancelling) planned baseball facility upgrades to focus $$ on football. I didn't see any follow up, and I have no idea if the comment came from a credible source, so I'm just curious if anything has changed or if it's still full steam ahead on the original $100 million plan.
34:55 SamSmith2233: Cain, Tennessee, is big game hunting in the portal. How do you balance getting dudes but also leaving room for your top-ranked freshmen class and not upsetting team chemistry?
39:09 Rank these QB’s Tennessee will see in 24: Grayson McCall, Jackson Arnold, Brock Vandagriff and Graham Mertz
42:34 Zeusify: Is NC State playing on a thursday before our game an advantage to them or not really a factor?
44:32 Pine: Could Will Brooks be the Zander Sechrist of this football team? Can you break down his game, athleticism, and what the coaches see in him?
47:14 Which current 3 star commits do you think might get a bump? Which 3 star commit do you think is the most underrated or a really good fit for UT?
Sidney Walton S
Antoni Kade Ogumoro IOL
Dylan Lewis CB
Justin Baker RB
Tre Poteat CB
Joakim Dodson WR
Charles House DL
Tyler Redmond CB
48:40 Rheltney 4 Life: What is UT looking for in the baseball portal?
49:47 Unfortunately, Ariel Antiqua's early season injury caused us not to get a good glimpse of his full all around potential. What are reasonable expectations offensively for him going forward?
50:55 NWGAVOL: Pick a win that would mean the most and a loss that would hurt the worst in the upcoming season for Josh Heupel out of this group: Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia

Dale Carter was one of the scariest DB’s to ever wear orange. Bad dude.

I share the same sentiment on Dale Carter. As great as Eric Berry was, had Dale Carter had a 3rd year at UT like Berry did, then Dale would've had the notoriety and accomplishments that Eric did. Eye test wise those that seen Dale can attest that it felt like any play he was on the field he might flash and do something that got you jumping out of your chair.

Berry and Grant were phenomenal, but the rating has to be what Rob gave. Brent provided solid reasoning.

Dale Carter is number 2. Berry won the Thorpe award for gods sake. The most NFL ready freshman I’ve ever seen. I’ve watched Dale and he was a GREAT safety, but Berry was ELITE.

I disagree. Watched both in person because i am old as dirt at 47. Watched Dale return a kickoff 80+ yards for a TD from 11 rows away from the field. Dale was a 1st team AA at safety and led the country in kick return yardage at 29+ yards per return as an AA kick returner too. Thats still the record at UT for a season and likely never will be broken. He was the fastest player on the field every time he stepped on it even when flarduh had WRs that torched everyone else. Like Deion, Dale would bait QBs into throwing the ball by giving WRs a step...knowing he could close on the ball and make the play to break it up or intercept. He did all this and had legit 4.3 speed at over 200lbs and would lay the wood on a RB with authority. The only athlete I have ever seen that was more gifted than Dale was Bo Jackson. Our defense ate Bo alive though. Best defensive ballgame by UT in my lifetime, but I was just a little kid and had to rewatch that one to appreciate it. I take nothing away from EB and love the guy. Definitely think he is the 2nd best to play at UT in my lifetime and we were very blessed to have him. Just dont think he was quite as good an athlete as DC. Berry was a great player and an even better person by all accounts. Dale was wild outside of football and I have no idea what his personal life looks like as an adult fwiw...

@@marcthomas5641 I guess it’s an age thing. I’m 25 saw only Berry play. But only 2 safeties since 1992 went top 5 and that’s Berry and Sean Taylor

You must be a younger fan. Bobby majors and Chris white are 1 and 2. Eric berry 3

@diesel8067 they had the most interception Bobby had 10 in 70 and Chris White had 9 in 85. I've been going to games since 69. So that tells you iam a old fart. Bobby and Chris weren't as athletic as Carter and Berry, but could read the plays as good as anyone

I think losing to Florida at home would be the most hurtful as far as feelings go

I will say that "if" Carter had as been as dedicated to his craft as Berry or Heath Shurler he would be top of the mountain.

Condredge Holloway could have been all SEC @ 4 or more positions. Slot, RB, WR, CB, Kick Returner or QB.

I was thinking about this last week and I figured CJH would take Coop, Pearce, Big O or John Campbell (just to keep him engaged) because he did switch positions and we need him to be good at right tackle this year.
@coryhill1196
@coryhill1196 7 дней назад
The man’s not an elite tackle, but he’s about to put on tape for nfl execs that he can play both sides, that’s gonna bump his draft stock. I don’t think he’s complaining.
@itzgrippytv
@itzgrippytv 6 дней назад
@@coryhill1196 I'm not saying he's either one... I'm saying it's a shot to your ego to be brought in one year to play a certain position and then be asked to move the following year when you bring in someone better. Also at times last year he had issues "staying healthy and engaged." We need him to be good this year so it makes sense. Also if you've watched any of his interviews he's entertaining as heck lol

I think Alabama could be the worst loss if they come in to Neyland with two losses just like Brent said.
