I had the original in th 80's and i loved going back and forth from robot to vehicles. now this has the articulation that i wanted too, this is awesome!
Man, i always drooled over the large voltron and Dairugger figures back in the 80s,when i went with my mom to ToysRUs. It was like when all the Japanese Giant Robot flood started with Shogun warriors and transformers. I did though get a Fang of the Sun, Dougram(sp?) 8-9" diecast model kit back then, it was one of the early ones that had loads of metal parts in the core body and it came with lots of detailed armor body parts and accessories, like you could dismantle the legs and there was like the mechanical hoses and working pistons and coil springs and little cast details. It has really tough joints that actually hold the limbs in solid poses. I have been wanting to find its opposing mech enemy ,the soltek?, i cant remember, anyway the one also model from the 80s series. The weird thing back then the Fang of the Sun models came in packaging that had nothing but Japanese and other asian writing but no English, lol, but thats what made it even more amazing and exotic and cool as i always liked those old Japanese monster movies and JarJaguar robot hero,so seeing those boxes just was very cool. However i never even knew what the heck the figures were from as i couldnt translate the printing until just a couple years ago i found info about the old anime series on youtube and finally figured out what it was.
Huge respect for Bandai because they also recognized dairugger XV as voltron vehicle team, because during my childhood the only thing that I know is vehicle and lion Voltron instead of golion and dairugger XV.
Me and my Husband are Robot Collectors. We go only for Bandai Tamashii Brand because they have articulation and Livery. Always Accurate and near Perfection! They last long too. Really good for Investment because the price even its pricey, the Quality is good!
Shout out toToyDojo, was on the waitlist, they emailed yday (my 40th bday) to see if I wanted a cancelled PO......hell yeah! Shipped already. 🍻 Nice review mate.
Gavin F:I get lazy once a company says it’s out of stock but gives u a chance to “sign up” for notifications of “next availability”,cool that u got it 👍
Always liked the Vehicle Voltron better than the Lion because of being more in space. I admit the a few of the single vehicles were never much to look at but always loved the combined vehicle forms for each team especially the combined mode of the sea team. And what else is their to say always thought all the vehicles combined into this version of Voltron was always awesome. The lions are no slouch either.
Wow. So cool! Thanks for the great review! This thing is totally worth the price. Unfortunately I'm too poor to afford it. It's nice to live vicariously through your reviews though. :)
I have just collected my today, it's very cheap now I bought it below @$400.00 SGD. Great chogokin, thanks for the great review and transformation guide. Keep up the good work. 👍👍
"Ya can't roller skate in a robeast herd Ya can't roller skate in a robeast herd No, ya can't roller skate in a robeast herd But you can be happy if you've a mind to"
I actually liked this Voltron better than the lions. Loved this toy to death. And I mean, eventually the plastic clips holding his knees together broke and he'd no longer hold together. That was the stage of my life where I was taking my toys apart to see how they worked. Impossible for an eight year old to find replacement parts in 1984.
Now that I have both, I'll simply call Miracle as vintage and SOC as masterpiece. They both have they're + and -, but I love them both. my sentai collector life is now complete :)
Interesting how this figure is from a adult themed anime which became the second season after being heavily edited for American T.V. and was originally intended to precede the lion version.
Bought the Matchbox version back in the early 2000s. Although it was never played with or assembled, it showed it's age. One of the fist had split because the glue had gone. I assembled Voltron and individual teams once. The torso units wouldn't separate and I didn't try to force it.
I don't watch very many reviewers before doing mine on something, but always yours, dude, because I love hearing your joy over this stuff in particular. Great review, and can't wait to pick up mine on Monday! New lights rock, btw. LEDS always make this stuff pop I have three set up currently and need to do one more, but just my space is tight.
Miracle had a few versions. The v1, which is the one you have, was kinda rushed out and had some tolerance issues. Then after getting feedback Miracle went back, retooled a bunch of stuff, and released the v2 which had a sticker on the box saying "improve version". It was a LOT better and had the pull down platforms on the feet to keep him from running away on you. I think there may have been another revision later on, but it wasn't really as huge of a leap in change from the v1 to v2.
Mine should arrive on Friday. Can't wait to get it. I didn't like the cartoon as a kid as much as Lion Voltron. Watching the cartoon now as an adult. I LOVE it.
It is only missing 2 letters but it is close enough. The thing is that it reminds me of sombra arriba. Which i find amusing. Mr. Sombra Arriba with the cowboy sombrero.
I like how they are bringing back our 80s toys..This is a nice gift set. They seem to be making all the transformers voltron sets more agile now .I would like to see a new replica of the Rocklords or Gobots..
Love these guys. I wish they would had remake these toys as much as the lion voltrons not the dream work lions. I got the 24" legendary classic voltron
This is a great review and I want to buy this version of Voltron (Vehicle Voltron). This looks well-made, not to mention the numerous hands and weapons that he comes with!
Beautiful piece. The only gripe I have is the forearms have to be fixed into that one position and can’t be turned sideways. It just looks weird to me. When the hand is turned to the side, I feel like the whole car should be turned with it. Seems odd that they didn’t engineer it to turn either way. At first I thought it was them being faithful to the line art, but the line art and anime show the forearms turned in relation to the hands, so….why???? Still an amazing piece.
The First, really really bad version of the Miracle had spring plates on the bottom that would take the load off the wheels and in theory prevent it rolling. V2 and V3 skipped that, but fixed all the other problems. It looks like yours is a V2. Honestly I think the Bandai looks a bit better, just for better paint and color. But they are both excellent with fantastic sculpt and design. GX-88 is a worthy partner for GX-71.
Nice review and great figure! Would you be Incline to do a separation (detransformation) video of this massive robot? So that we don't pull / push the wrong way while taking him apart? Excellent job again!
In terms of design, paint, detail, and accesories, the GX-88 is superior in every way to the Miracle version.....the one HUGE, glaring exception being no rotation on the elbows, which means the forearms will always be facing forward. It's not a dealbreaker, but it's a MAJOR oversight on Bandai's part. I expect better from a piece that retails at over $300USD.
I used to have the original when I was a kid. Was thinking about getting him but he looks a little on the small size. How tall is he? Looks around 11-12 inches
my thumb broke (no cracks b/c there actually two pieces glued together) off while trying to shove the spear in.. when I examined it closely I noticed there is a friction tab on the thumb so it can connect to the hand but really does not work. Not sure why bandai made the sword hands two pieces as this is an obvious weak point when accessorizing.
I don't know. I thought this Voltron is cooler than the Lions since it has actual hands. The spinning laser blades are nicer looking as well as a cooler way of forming the blazing sword.
@@winton3377 I see the Voltron Lions or GoLion as it was and then I see Power Rangers in 1993. I know who took inspiration from who!! The tragedy is we have not had a well done Voltron Movie. The Voltron TV Series on Netflix proves there is one hell of a story potential there.
@@InfernoDragon1 Was any of that known in the USA, the UK or Australia at the time? No it was not and I will say it again.. Voltron was clearly the inspiration for what **we** would later know as Power Rangers that first aired in Australia on August 28, 1993 which was well after Voltron aired and finished its series on our TV channels. We are both right from our own points of view however where I come from we have had little or none of what you are mentioning above. Our Western adoption and subsequent adaption of Transformers (Micromen), Voltron (GoLion) and Power Rangers (Super Sentai) is what turned these series from Asia into the global phenomenon that we now know and the franchises that exist today otherwise they would be little known Asian Cult TV Series that would have come and gone as they fell to the wayside of history. What was happening in Asia on their TV networks is not what we have received on our Western TV networks and there is two forms of history here.. the Asian history we know little about and the history that we experienced or know because it is what happened for us. So again, we are both right and neither of us are wrong. I remember reading somewhere, I think it was with Power Rangers that the people who went to Asia collected the wrong footage from the wrong TV Series and when they scampered home with it the producers loved what they saw so much they forgave their minions and so Power Rangers was born into Western Culture by a mistake.
RocketPunchArmy not very well but I can play some Maiden and sabbath and Metallica stuff...I love the intro music and if you remember I’m a fan of against the grain and dead blow hammer 🤘🏼
Pretty Cool, funny Beavis & Butthead giggles, but I will just stick with my Miracle Prod. version II that is about the same height as the 25th Anniv Lion Voltron. I like them antennaes which were in the original 80s Dairuggers.
Having both I can tell you that if you are happy with the Miracle version there is nothing wrong with it. I love mine and it was a very misunderstood piece and very difficult figure to bring to market
RocketPunchArmy I changed my mind and gave in. I had to get GX-88. It is just too good of a figure to pass. Thanks for the detailed review with humor. Keep it goin.
Excellent video! I have an unrelated question (wasn’t sure how else to contact you and ask): the 3-inch diecast Shogun Warriors figures... are they also Japanese imports or were they made by Mattel for the line? Unlike the other Popy products Mattel imported, I can’t seem to find Japanese versions of those smaller figures. Thanks!
Or maybe 13 was a favorite as it looks like a futuristic version of the A-Team van??? Doesn't stop it from being awesome. (And that other Dairugger XV you showed? Looks like a cheap KO compared to the SoC one!) Big vehicles, small pilots...also see Kousoku Sentai Turboranger, Chikyuu Sentai Fiveman, Gekisou Sentai Carranger, Kyuukyuu Sentai Gogo V, Mirai Sentai Timeranger, Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, Gogo Sentai Boukenger, Engine Sentai Go-Onger, Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters, Ressha Sentai ToQger, some stuff of Shuriken Sentai Ninninger, Tousai King from Doubutsu Sentai Zyuohger, Uchuu Sentai Kyuuranger, and Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs. Keisatsu Sentai Patranger.
That other one is the Miracle Productions. If you only knew the true story behind that...I was sworn to secrecy but it was a very cool backstory involving another well known company
So strange.. how did you manage to get the upper torso and head on with the backpack tracks turned vertically in robot mode? I did the same after following you and the head would not clip in at all. I tried with the head and upper torso clipped in first and then the mid torso but now the head would pop out like it was spring loaded...hahaha i was worried QC issues for a second there but then I turned the tracks horizontally the way it originally came out the box and that seem to do the trick. This is very special piece, imo feels better in the hand then the golion for some reason. And when the toy is not anime accurate because it looks even better ahhh so jealous this gen has all the nice toys too bad they won't be able to afford them tho :(
Yah, i wished i had bought the model like that long time ago. I always had other more pressing issues to have to spend money on ,so i never got to buy the really nice version.
Yes this is part of the Voltron line of robots. He's either a fan of this Vehicle one, the Lion Force one or both tberes also a 3rd one that isnt as popular made of 3 robots that combine
