A great car! I was working at the factory in Gothenburg 1979-1980 and we didn’t build any black GT only silver.

I owned a 1979 242GT just like this one in this video. I'm in Canada. I never heard of or saw a black one, only silver. There were also orange/black pin stripes on the hood/bonnet surrounding the recess in the hood and cowl vent, as well outlined on the front spoiler. Canadian cars never had headlight wipers but mine did have a sunroof. It appears on your car, someone has added black paint on the bottom along the sides of the car, directly behind the front bumper on the fender, as well as the bottom of the rear 1/4 panel behind the rear wheel to the rear bumper, that whole area originally came all silver body colour. I just got a glimpse of the rear, and it appears someone added some black paint around the tail lights as well, that area came all silver. Thanks for the tour, brought back a lot of memories, all good ones. To this day I regret selling mine, great car.

I've read about the black ones on a 242GT page - need to find it again. Yeah, this one had some issues, but I would have bought it. Liked it a lot, because it's so much of a Volvo. And it drove great 😍

Former owner of a 1976 242 DL. The few things I didn’t like in my DL were automatic transmission, no tachometer, only 2 speakers, 2.1 L engine. The GT would’ve been perfect for me. I only saw 1 GT up close in my lifetime (back in 1986). It was wrecked but fixable sitting on my Volvo dealer’s lot. I would’ve loved to own one. My brother drove a 1982 242 GLT Turbo that was upgraded to an Intercooler model. That one was awesome also.

Great video - brings back memories as I purchased a 1979 242GT brand new in Canada. I put 25k kilometres on it in the first year. Excellent car all round. The Canadian market saw those cars in '78. '79' and '80. In 1980 Halifax built 200 black 242GT's for Canada only. Magnificent looking cars. Arguably because of the tail lights and handling features the 1979 was the best year. All were B21F in Canada. US cars were slightly lower horsepower, I think about 109. Canadian ones were around 116 and did not have Lambda sensors but did have Pulsair and EGR. Thanks for posting your video!

I have a 1978 GT it has a different rear light configuration and different trunk. I also on the black GT and it didn’t have any stripes but all the same interior it was a 1980.
