Glad to see you have a victory on your birthday! And thanks for doing video of these "small" steps. I know it slows and complicates the process, but speaking as a viewer it is enormously helpful to have a RU-vid video to watch before taking my car off the road for repair.
As a fellow RU-vidr you know there's no chance it was today 🤣 But actually about a month ago 😄 Thanks Lee, it did look good I'd like clear lines right up to the fuel rail, maybe I'll do it one day when I've got way too much time on my hands
Happy birthday man! Yeah petrol fumes is no laughing matter! It doesn't get you high - just a cracking headache! I changed the intank sender/pump in my 240 this year and the period of time mucking around trying to contort the whole unit through the hole (without the float ball and the sock falling off) took too long, and the fumes were becoming overwhelming.
I was worried about that but no headache fortunately, I think it was too stale for it. And I know what you mean it can be a real pain, I'm not looking forward to doing it on the 240 one bit 😬
Happy belated Birthday. It did sound quite good. Just make sure you note down any temp fixes, if you are anything like me you will forget months down the line that there is still a temp fix in place. Yabba Dabba Doo
“C’mon you old shitter” 😂 Good that she cooperated on your birthday and yes it sure does run smooth for an old 4 banger Volvo. Well done on the channel. Cheers from Oz.
Congrats on getting here running again! I’ve just watched all the videos you have on Ruby and Elsa. Great content, new subscriber to your channel, I bought a Volvo for my channel but it’s not got the same character that yours have.
Thanks! I really appreciate that. I subscribed to your channel I'm looking forward to checking out your content, it's a bit tricky when newer cars don't have the same character as old ones, but keep going as I know yours is a popular one!
Happy belated birthday! I hope it was an awesome one! I bet it was such a relief to hear it fire up and run properly. You're really making me never want to do the fuel system on my 85 but I definitely know it needs a new sending unit and pumps because it's died on me several times.
I love Skandix, they literrally delivered me a big box of spare parts in just 2 and a half weeks to Argentina. IPD is also great, I believe Skandix supplies IPD for some parts. Great video! I hate messing with the car electronical ... still trying to get some bravery for the PCV system in my 240. I'm just too scare. Regards, Nacho.
Runs sweet! The one nice thing about a car that's been sat for ages is they aren't racking up miles, and with most Volvos now have moon miles on them! If there is one thing I miss about my terminally rotten GL it's the black over blue interior and tweed seats. My less rotten (but still featuring Flintstone's floors like yours!) GLE has the black dash and grey cloth seats out of a 940 and... Well. It 'aint no blue!
That's very true, this one is a hair under 200k kilometres, I found the odometer plug plastic clip in the passenger floor well and because of how the previous owner was, I think he's probably wound the clock back or at least it wasn't working. But judging by the condition of it in a few key areas I really don't think it's a high mileage rig. I know what you mean about the grey cloth, at least they are just as extremely comfortable 😃
Happy birthday mate, health, wealth and happiness. You should contact Guy Martin if you need any spare volvo parts lol, he just bought 2 to do classic rallying in Sweden haha.
Oh I've replaced a few of those in my days. There were mainly 2 things I looked for whenever buying a used 700, 1, not too much rust present, 2, that the fuel sender unit had already been replaced. Don't know what they were thinking using iron ones..
Sounds like a good approach! I feel alot better now it's a mostly plastic one on there, along with a plastic tank, one area I definitely agree with cars moving from metal to plastics!
Access to the tank is not as simple on the saloon. Head up arse down. With removal of pump very awkward. Looked underneath and I decided that dropping the whole tank out was the solution. I was right 30 minutes later had it sitting on the ground. Access to pump and replacement easy as. Then tank back in with the help of a trolley Jack.
Thanks for the heads up, literally 😂 I wouldn't mind getting a saloon one day and would definitely do some in tank maintenance after seeing the state of this one
Thanks! And always 😃 I did do an apprenticeship that I never finished because I was too busy moving from country to country, I don't do it as a day job, I think that's why I can enjoy it 😄
Superb video and really helpful. My 745 is identical to yours. I’m trying to source a new sender unit like the one you pulled out of the car in the first video, but struggling to find the correct one. Can I assume from your video that other sender units from the 7/900 series will fit, albeit with new hoses? Thanks once again for superb content
Lurking here in 2024 after following along with your adventures for a while ... doing a similar repair with the fuel sending unit on my 87 740 and wondering where you were able to source a replacement? In Canada I can't seem to find anything besides a new unit which is stupid expensive.
Hello mate. This your new pump looks like from volvo 940?🤔I have Same problem what you.But I can't find pump for my Volvo 740...can I fit different pump...??
Dogged isn't he? And it's clearly cold there. I'd have given up and had a little cry long, long before this. He just keeps plodding on, solving problems in constricted spaces.
