Volvo 850 Parking Brake Install / Repair 

Great video! I need to fix mine. This was really well documented.

Actually, for final adjustment, you want slight drag on the rotor when the park brake shoes are properly adjusted. Do both rear wheel sides. Then, with wheels installed, go under the armrest, remove the access panel, and use a T50 torx (I think it is) to adjust the cable such that when the park brake handle is pulled up 5-7 clicks you should have full hold of the vehicle while in Neutral. Remove wheels and readjust the park brake shoes if you do not achieve this. Repeat.

Since the parking brake is only activated when the vehicle is stationary how did the shoe become so worn down?

Excellent demo. I also have a 96 Volvo 850T5 . I did my brakes over a year ago, but I still have a slight rub-silence rub -silence coming from the parking brake pad . I adjusted it and used all new parts from FCP. I centered the pads by pulling and adjusting the hand brake. I sanded the inside of the rotor and pads. Nothing seems to help. The main issue for me is if I'm on the highway, the drum(rotor) does get hotter than the other side from that small light rubbing action. There obviously must be a high spot. Maybe I will just have it turned at a machine shop. Maybe it came from the factory not perfectly round!!!

I think I know the answer already, but I'll ask anyways - is there a way to clean and lubricate the actuator without removing the parking brake shoes?
