Fyi for anyone that finds this in the future if you want to delete your egr system. The only thing the icu looks for is the egr temp sensor, at least on 940s. Some earlier egr systems don't even throw a cel when removed but if you have a temp sensor it will. Easy fix is take your egr temp sensor and measure it's resistance while hitting the thermometer probe with a blow torch for a few seconds. Resistance should increase as it gets hotter. I used a .25w 1.5k ohm resistor and a male connector pigtail. Soldered the resistor to the wires and used marine heatshrink to seal it up. No more egr system and no cel.
Thanks for the great info. In around 20 years of playing with Volvos this is the only one I've had with EGR and I've put absolutely zero effort looking into a how to delete it.
