I've had a problem with my A/C kicking off and not turning back on for a while now. I read online about the bread clip/zip tie fix, but it looked pretty complicated. I found an easier way to access the compressor that allowed me to perform the fix in about 15 minutes.

Hi If I haven’t done this I wouldn’t believe it. Fixed my Volvo v50 in 20 minutes. Bit different but result in cold air working. Many thanks

I did It in my V70 (1999) years ago. I replace the zip-ties every summer and It works perfect. Good and cheap solution.

I just bought a C70, while under the car, I just saw the zipties on the a/c compressor. I came here trying to figure out what it was all about.

Thanks for sharing.. I see also videos with alot of work to do the fix. To take it all off and measure the gab and so on. Is this not harmfull for the car?

thanks KS so much for posting this video! I'm going to attempt this today but I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to tools I heard you say 5/16s driver is that what I'd ask for at home depot? thanks again!

Tiffany Welling yes, I just used my electric drill/driver, but you should be able to purchase one that just functions like a screwdriver for a few dollars at Home Depot.

I wonder if there's an upgrade to this compressor as I hear it fails a lot so I don't want to worry about replacing again.

great video! My A/C works great, but recently, on two occasions, after full throttle the a/c would not turn back on unless I turn the car off and back on, then works fine for a while. What component tells the A/C to turn off and on? Why would it start to fail? Thanks in advance.

uberbeans I am not a mechanic, but that is very similar to the situation I had. When the system tries to turn the compressor on, the clutch cannot engage if the gap is too large. Putting the ties in decreases the gap. Just make sure that you don’t make the gap too small or the compressor will never shut off.

There is in the cars manual if you read about the A/C that it turns off after full throttle. I think it is then off for 15 min.
@Webrisernl

@@KjellKarlsson1 oh really? Do you know why is that?
@KjellKarlsson1
@KjellKarlsson1 Год назад
@@Webrisernl No, no idea at all. But maybe something with overheating or something?

@KjellKarlsson1 15min no way. It should only be for a few seconds then turn back on. Most modern cars do this.

I'm sorry, what did you do? just wiggled some broken zip ties behind the U shaped area? this is to increase the gap of the magnetic clutch?
@mrkuswelb
@mrkuswelb 6 лет назад
This is actually to decrease the clutch gap, but essentially, yes.

I can barely get a razor blade between them how did you slide the zip tie in ?

So long term update? Still holding strong? Im concerned the ties would break off and get caught in the area - causing damage. Care to comment on that?

Still working great, but of course I didn't run it much over the winter time. I did double-check several times to make sure that the compressor would cycle on and off since I had heard that this fix may cause it to stay on all the time and burn it out, it cycles as expected. I am not too concerned with them coming off since I used the zip ties and locked them shut plus you really have to wedge them in. Even if they were to come loose, I don't think there is much in the general vicinity that they could damage.

How many miles are on your C30? Also, given the easy accessibility of the A/C compressor, if needed, would it be comparatively easy to replace?
@mrkuswelb
@mrkuswelb 6 лет назад
185,000+ miles - I would not attempt to replace the compressor on my own since I do not own the proper equipment to evacuate and properly recharge the refrigerant.

Mark Barnes I just bought an 09 C30 with 88k miles. The previous owner took really good care of it but I'm wondering if there are any major issues to anticipate. I know you're working on the a.c. now but 188k seems pretty reasonable for that kind of maintenance. Any big issue along the way?
@mrkuswelb

I have had no major issues. Congrats, I hope you enjoy it.

Did I miss why or how you attached the zip ties
@mrkuswelb
@mrkuswelb 4 года назад
The zip ties are just a shim to decrease the clutch gap. I just recorded it on my phone, sorry I was unable to show the actual process of placing the ties.
