Fun to see all six Volvo cars at once. I myself have a Volvo V90 and a Volvo XC90. These are made by Maisto in 1/64 scale I've heard. I bought these from a local seller here in Sweden. The boxed cars are sold by Volvo dealers. I myself thought they were from Norev. But it is apparently Maisto who is the manufacturer.
Thank you for this review, David. I have these on my wishlist at Tom's Modelauto's since I think last year but their arrival at Tom's keeps getting postponed. I was wondering if they would be worth the money considering they're Maisto. Assuming they'll be as you showed but in a blister packaging, they're going to be good value. Can you confirm they also have suspension as it says on the Maisto blister pack? There's a 5-car 'diorama' too, a bit like your line-up at the end of the video. I'll send you some links.
They will be worth the wait. Each one that I looked at was better and better. I am so pleased at the execution on these. I spoke with Eddie, Maisto art director, he confirmed they are Maisto. Great suspension and rubber tires is amazing for them.
Beautiful Volvo models, indeed not too common car brand in 1/64 scale, but in other scales there's been pretty good selection of Volvo cars and trucks. There was (maybe stil is?) even a dedicated Atlas Volvo collection diecast models in 1/43 scale, I've got a Volvo 740 Turbo from that collection. Currently going through my Volkswagen models, and after that it's indeed the turn of my Volvo models. I do have some 1/64 Volvo models as well, for example couple of months ago found the Majorette 60th Anniversary Volvo 240 Wagon.
Very nice cars, I'm a Volvo enthusiast myself and these definitely look like dealer specific models. I worked in a Volvo dealership for a few years and we had diecast on offer through the parts dept. Most were 1:43 scale, but we did get the XC90 in a couple of different colors. The ones you have are most probably meant for the Chinese Volvo dealership network and Geely has owned Volvo for almost a decade now. Since you like Volvos I'm assuming you'll be interested in the 240 wagon Majorette is re releasing? Have a great weekend David!
I can’t wait to see the 240 wagon by Majorette. I hope you had a good weekend as well. I did not know that about Geely. Although it makes sense when you see the Geely sedans.
I think they are. I sent pics to their art director who said they put out some for the dealerships in this type of packaging. I’m sure they are Maisto, maybe Bburago made them, he wasn’t sure. They are all the same colors as the ones in the multi pack at Tom’s. Gotta be them.
I bought these a couple of months ago. Hope Maisto will do this with other brands such as Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Lexus. The detailing would be amazing.
I believe these are made by Burago, not 100% sure though... but a very nice addition for sure, and a full collection from the start, you definetly don't see that every day
All six has different wheels. I also noticed only the first one and the wagon must be gasoline, there's only one fuel door. The electric one has two doors on the same side. Unless the front door is for something completely different, like blinker fluid.
