excellent idea, seems well executed, but the fact the China now owns Volvo leaves nagging doubts about the long term quality of the parts used.

Got a Magic Blue, Blonde leather S90 T8 in Inscription Pro a month ago (after a C Class) and boy, has this been an upgrade and a half or what. Such a stunning car - unpretentious, understated, and achingly cool. ALL of the additional options are so brilliantly worth it; and I'm so looking forward to the preconditioning function in the winter - entering a warm and toasty car in the mornings! I'm 42, and I feel like instead of joining a Members-only club, I've bought one. Love it! ❤

This car is absolutely Amazing, inside, outside, and such a perfect car to drive. Very good and safe ride, no sound from outside when driving, and such a fast car that it's insane. I love that car, and every person seeing it in real are loving it also. Good job volvo.

I just think Plug-In Hybrids are a complete waste of time if you live in a rural area. Charge will be gone very quickly then you are on to petrol mode getting 25mpg! Love the car, but wouldn’t get T8 version.

I havent tried the S90 T8, but i got the chance to try a Golf GTE, i could drive 120 km in hybrid mode before the battery ran out. I averaged 0,28 liters/10km. Sure, i was trying really hard to drive economically, but i deffinatelly dont agree that plug in hybrids are a waste! Atleast in Sweden, the majority of people have less than 50km commute to work, which means they can get to work without ever starting the engine. If they can charge while at work, they can also get home and save using the fossile engine for longer road trips.

My wife loves her S90 Inscription T6. She drove all the top cars out there but they were too flashy for her and she preferred the luxury features provided on the Volvo. People are surprised how nice of a car it is when they see it and especially when they ride in it. It is a great looking car. We have been thinking about the T8 but 35miles per charge is a tough one to swallow.

£14000 premium over the petrol-only model is totally unjustifiable for the supposed economy.

It would be interesting to see real world mpg of this car. No doubt you can get to 100 mpg if you just use hybrid and constantly charging but I never feel that is the real point of these cars that every time you park up you need to find a charging space. I'd rather have a hybrid that could do a consistent 50-80 mpg when off charge & self generating hence I feel Volvo need to add the hybrid mechanism to other less powerful petrol options or a diesel to make any sense. But like he says at the end about choice if I could afford a new one I'd probably just plump for a D5 engine. As it is a V90, with a diesel, will be on my list for my next used car when I change.

I had one, When at low charge it’s about 25mpg town, high 30- low 40’s motorway. Remember the thing weighs around 350kg more than the normal one and you feel it. You will get 17ish miles out of the battery.

Real world consumption depends a lot how much you charge and how long trips you drive. But for example V60 T8 consumption is about 6.5L/100km if you force petrol engine on all the time (measured home-work with average speed about 75 kmh ... mostly 80kmh limit and some 60kmh roads.

Mine makes 5,4l/100kms since the day i bought it new in 2020. It's imo quite amazing for a 390hp car, knowing that my foot is heavy when passing a car, or willing to have a bit of fun.

There's no answer to any of these questions: How will people who currently buy a car for £1,000 - or even £5,000 - ever afford a car that is electric or hybrid? At those prices, the batteries will be shot. Are we happy to make cars unaffordable for the less wealthy? Is the government going to put charging stations for every car on every pavement? Otherwise, how are people who live in flats - i.e. most people who live anywhere near the centre of a city - going to use an electric car? What about the environmental - and human - cost of all the metals that are in these batteries? The government is making this promise of banning ICE engines seemingly without making any of the difficult - and expensive - decisions. I.e. the current government is claiming all the credit for being 'green', while leaving the problems caused for future governments to sort out.

I fancy this or the 530e as my commute is around 15 miles, free charging at work. In theory my commuting will be pretty much free

1:11 That's not a downside, that means your running cost get lower. Also the implication there is that the non-plug in hybrids somehow get their electricity from nowhere. Not true, the burnt petrol provides it.

I'm sorry but for that size of a car, at that price, I would never buy it with only a 4 cylinder. They electric motors aren't going to cover up that awful sounding engine that's about to have a stroke because it's being so overworked. Just not luxury to drive
@Cyclingrob79
@Cyclingrob79 4 года назад
The engine alone is already very quiet. The XC90 with just the turbo 4 has 250hp. Very quiet and responsive.
@SuperMrminecraftdude
@SuperMrminecraftdude 4 года назад
Its both turbocharged and turbocharged, giving about 300hp without counting in the electric motors. This ”overworked” engine will smoke most cars on public roads. But i agree, it doesnt sound all too exciting.

in the industrial revoloution the ones who did not adapt quick enough went to the wall.small hybrids like the prius are far more effecient than this whale on wheels .even so the writeing is on the wall even for smaller hybrids .those car companies who do not go fully electric will go bankrupt .battery range is improving all of the time the diesel petrol driven cars are finished .i only have a nissan leaf it is very smooth and no engine noise .once the chargeing times and battery range are improved and they will be those car companies who sat on thier hands will be no more.how ironic mg formally bankrupt is building electric cars which have more chance of surviving than volvo.big uneconomic whales on wheels are not going to compare to a tesla or any other effecient eletric cars .volvo get your finger out as if not you will just a foot note in history .electric is the future diesel petrol is in the past

MG are not the same company, ruined by the unions in the 70's. They are a Chinese company and now have a free face mask at no extra cost.

58.000 pounds.far to much money .buy a mg electric keep the rest of the 35000 pounds for something else.only a rich person could afford to buy this car and you will never ever get your money back.if i was wealthy i certainly would not waste 58.000 pounds on this car .
@MichaelBosley
@MichaelBosley 4 года назад
Private buying would be insane, but it makes sense of you're a company car driver with this budget, which I think is more the aim of these exec PHEV's. Plus an MG EV will only get you 163 miles a charge, not good enough if you're doing significant miles.
