Heater blower stopped working in my V50 last week. This video is just what I needed! I finally got a glimpse of the motor today but there's no way it's coming out without removing the dash. It feels like the whole damn car was built round it!

My Volvo is a 2004 XC70. As common on most Volvo's, the heater blower is on the passenger side, directly below the glove box. However, the heater core comes out (With some difficulty.) from the drivers' side. In neither instance would you have to remove the entire dashboard.
Such a brilliant video. Ultra well explained. The aircon man said that I need a new humidifier that's behind the dashboard. So this video is just what I needed 🙂
Great Job.. I believe I may need to remove (not sure yet) a damper motor (C30) and I'm hoping I won't need to go this deep, but this is definitely wonderful info.. thank you.
I took my V50 into a main dealer, mentioned the vents weren't working properly. They gave it back only blowing cold air, it was -7c outside and a 30 mile round trip. After a fight they agreed to replace the blender motors, with no charge for labour, which would have been around £1000. A couple of years later the aircon isn't working. Took me a while to figure out that is blowing hot air on the drivers side and cold on the passenger. Now faced with dash removal, another replacement of the motors, and probably replacing the aircon parts that are faulty behind the dash. Your video explains it all perfectly.

I also have a broken HVAC motor (Air distribution) so i probably need to remove the whole dashboard. This video convinces me never to do so by myself. Volvo wanted 1500 USD to fix the problem :(

Wow, excellent video! My S40 has an annoying rattle inside the dash on the upper far left. It seems to be right around the speaker area. I pried off the speaker cover but nothing. Also the heat vent covers, but nothing there either. Sounds like its something loose, but impossible to fix or get to without removing the dash. I'm actually reluctant to mess wit it in fear of damaging stuff. Would an auto body be the best place to go for help? The Volvo dealership is my last resort since they charge the most.

Most hardware stores will sell plastic trays with dividers in them and a lid, I use those and masking tape labels or sandwich bags are also a great option!
Very helpful video, thank you! I would like to ask you an opinion: ina Volvo V50 without RTI Navi cut in the dash, do you think there is phisical space to insert one? It is about 20cm deep. I do not know if the vents let me space to insert it. If Navi model and regular one are built the same way under the dash it should be possible but I actually don't know if they are the same, in particular if the vents are in same position. Thanks! I just got a volvo v50 2010 second hand in Thailand. Can you kindly let me know what is the mesh part on the middle of the dashboard? I am hoping to place a touch panel to sync my phone to but I have no idea what it is to begin with... Thanks in advance for your kind consideration to respond.
That motor you pointed at is not the blender door - that separates foot air from the rest of the car. There are two electric motors (if dual control) in the lowest position on the casing that control the blender door, for the cars that have 5 motors. Cut the plastic firewall (or a hole in it) and you won't need to remove the whole dashboard, and you will save days in work and frustration. Very bad design by an engineer from hell.
Hi GoodNuff, thank you for the video. I seem to have the same issue. Likely the vent flap (blend door?) inside the climate box is stuck or broken. How long of a job is this? What parts did you need to change, where did you buy them from? Tks
Hi, our pleasure! My car was only blowing hot air and I determined it was the motor that controls the blend door. To change it you’ll need to remove the parts seen in the video and you’ll be able to access the motor! The motor only has 3 screws and a plug so once you get all the big, time consuming bits off like the dash and dash structure it’s a breeze lol. Can i ask what year this V50 is ?? i have just the top section of the dash to change as per the first part of your video will i have to remove the steering column to change just the top section
