Ours broke recently on our 2012 XC70. It was cold at -20°C... so maybe the temperature was a contributing factor to the break. I changed the part in 10-15 minutes. To start - I used a pair of long needle-nose pliers and lifted up on the remaining plastic of the broken pull latch - and the seat unlocked and flipped down. I then inserted a flat screwdriver on the lower backside and pried the trim loose. I put down a very flat screwdriver on the top trim area and they released well too. I was able to save the trim. I had the new part ready to go in. *Note - A special Torx bit needs to be used to remove the Torx bolts holding the latch assembly to the side of the seat. It was simpler than I expected and really quick.
The method of lifting up on the internal square plastic bar is the easiest way to unlock the seat. Beat jimmying the above the latch with a screw driver as described multiple videos.
Just go through doing them for a customer. 220. now the trim pieces broke but they are only 15 each. To do them you need to look down into the hole and find the lever that unlocks the latch and pry it towards the back. Not too bad.
Thanks - Was a big help. Pretty easy to do once I was able to get the seat down. Need to order a new plastic guard, as the old one was cracked, but thrilled that I can put my seat up and down again!
Thank for the video, I replaced it successfully. There are 4 plastic tabs with the cover. The one near the bottom can be seen, and can separated without damage. I pried the top, damaged all 3 tabs. There is shallow tab with the cable connects to headrest as well. Lose the tab then turn clockwise (right seat), can separate the cable.
This video guidance was incredibly helpful. My latch has now broken twice and I refuse to pay Volvo to repair it again. Thanks for saving me some money!
Hello, I’m in need of assistance from an experienced person. My plastic tabs on the left side have broken off and now I can’t release the left seat. Imagine buying a bunch of stuff after driving 1.5 hours north just to return because you no longer have the room in the car due to 1 seat. (SMH). Please help thanks
This garbage alone forces me to get rid of this pile. This is crazy. Some idiotic engineer thought this was a good idea to make it as hard as possible for such a simple seat situation. Shame on Volvo. Horseshit.
Thank you so much, for helping us with the amazing Video . We have the same problem with VOLVO XC 70. We have to replace rear seat latch, i am wondering if is the same part like your Volvo XC60. Kamilla Canada
Mine just broke as well. Someone paid 39 thousand dollars for this car. What a piece of crap pull tabs on these nicer cars. Shame on Volvo. Dealer wanted to charge me $1200. What a rip off that would be.
You have no idea how helpful this has been for us. We were about to go on holiday in the car and needed the seat down to get bikes and luggage in and the lever snapped off! So this has saved our bacon! Thank you so much for taking the time to show this and film it. God bless.
Thank you, sir. Very helpful video explained exactly what I needed to know. Left side done. Right side on order. I was quoted $650 usd per side to have repaired ($1300 total). I'll have both sides done for about $170.00 usd plus maybe 45 mins of my time. Thanks again....
Thanks to your video I ordered the replacement plastic covers - good thing as I broke both sides taking them off ! Completed job in less than 45 minutes.
