@@oily_ragg I don’t think they’re comparable srv is technically a better guitarist but I’ve never heard anyone reproduce some of the sounds that jimi made with his guitar towards the end of voodoo child there’s a part where he runs down the fretboard and then does a whammy dive pull up up the fretboard again, it’s ridiculous, I’ve never heard anyone reproduce that sound yet it’s at about 4:09 on his slight return on Spotify
100% true. Honestly pisses me off when I see a video like this and all the comments are shitting in the guitarist and talking shit because “jimi played it better”. Like obviously jimi played it like no other because he fucking wrote the song and he’s a god damn legend, anyone who plays it is just honoring the greatness jimi managed to capture. This dude did a great job and I respect anyone who appreciates jimi enough to learn the song, even if their rendition isn’t can’t be as legendary as the original it’s always sick to see people appreciating and learning this incredible and timeless tune
Jimmie Vaughan opened for Jimi in Dallas on a Sunday Nite. His Wa Wa pedal broke. He couldn't get another one because it was Sunday.Jimmie let him borrow his. When they packed up, the crew took Jimmies and left Hendrix broken one.Jimmie still has it.If I remember right, I think he had it fixed and Stevie had it ;for awhile. AINT IT FUN BEING FROM TEXAS.
I saw an older black guy in a wheel chair in a Walmart about three years ago. He was dressed in purple colorfull shirt. He had a headband on and curly hair. Around 70 years old. This was in Renton Washingtonabout two miles from Jimi's grave.
Hey James.... Bringing up Renton and Jimi's Grave reminds me of a good memory. In 1998, I was in Seattle after coming back from fishing in the Bering Sea. I saw the bus that said Rentonon it and I go oh wow that's where Jimmy's grave is ...I'm going to Renton Long story short I was sitting by Jimmy's grave and here came Al Hendricks and his wife and two young girls. I don't know if the girls were his daughters or what but... Al didn't seem too excited about me but his wife invited me to go to church with them. It was on a Sunday. So I went to church with them and then Al's wife again said why don't I come home and help Al work in the yard and then stay over for dinner. So we did. Then Al really like me after we did the yard work because I really kicked ass.! Finally Mrs Hendrix said... It's so late you may not be able to get the bus back to Seattle, Randy why don't you just stay overnight? I said okay great. Then she said the only bed I have is in Jimi's old bedroom. Do you mind? I forgot to mention I was higher than s*** on LSG throughout this whole happening. Al drove me back to Seattle in the morning because he said he had to go to his nightclub called Jimis. He said be sure and drop by for some drinks anytime. So I went back to my hotel room and I started to think maybe I had hallucinated this whole thing. So a couple days later I grabbed a cab and I said is there a nightclub called Jimmy's around here? He said yes and I said take me there. I got there and found Al and he says oh you made it! So I guess it really happened.
Seriously. I work at a music shop in Hawaii and have zero tolerance for this kind of BS. Lol We're a place of business, not a public clubhouse to come hang out at when you're bored. If you don't actually have any interest in buying the guitar, then I certainly don't want to sit here and listen to you play it for 45 minutes - whether you're a good player or not. (90% of the time, they aren't though.)
Shows the creative skills of jimi. That was riff was sitting there quietly for years until jimi came along pluggef into a wah pedal and out it popped. The shear joy of electric guitar is right there. STILL RAININ STILL DREAMIN NEXT
A 60’s-70’s outfit, brand new amp that’s hasn’t been broke in and a reissued strat doesn’t mean Jimi is alive…SRV,John Mayer, and Phil X have already covered the song and proved the man never died. But, this kid is great and I’m sure we will keep seeing him tear it up for years to come!
He's using a left-handed strat flipped up-side-down. That puts the whammy bar, toggle switch, and tone/volume knobs on top...just like Jimi. My nephew went through a major Jimi obsession. He was frustrated there were things he couldn't do. I suggested to his dad to buy him a left-handed strat. He did and my nephew was able to get Jimi's sound. He was a happy rocker after that. Why more players don't do that when they do Hendrix covers I'll never understand. Seems obvious to me.
Thanks for taking it to the place where the band comes in. Now I know you're reading the comments. Well you didn't disappoint - all the tone and feel and dripping with cool. What's next? You're call.
Anyone that plays or watches the legends play knows this guy has all the little details and tricks that SRV employed and he makes it look just as easy, he’s not him but he’s definitely passionate and knows his shit
To play guitar like Jimmie or SRV is not easy, obviously you can't do it... You cannot judge a guy from a 30sec clip.!!! What do you know about his fantasies for guitar playing..?? The clothes he wears or the songs he writes or sings..?? If he can play THIS..!!! Imagine what he might come up with in his future...
@@briguylivetoride1122nothing kills creativity and originality for a musician than regularly playing someone else’s songs when you start dressing and acting like someone else it’s not even music anymore, you’ve become a vaudeville act
@@magneto44 bruh it’s a video and ik for a fact you could never play this song like this dude just did. I’m sure jimi would smile seeing this video. Why be such a weird hater psycho-analyzing a guy who obviously is passionate about the instrument. Not everyone has to be a creative legend, some people just like playing guitar, it’s fun. Maybe try having fun sometime. You’d probably play better if you did.
@@matmcclintock3102 You're right! He's not on my list of all time favorites. I grew up listening to Rory Gallagher, Robin Trower, Ritchie Blackmore, David Gilmour, Eddie Van Halen, and later on whom I consider the ultimate guitar player and musician, SRV. I appreciate Hendrix for his revolutionary input in music and guitar playing, but he never resonated with my artistic sensibilities. It is what it is! Having said that, what does that fact or misspelling his name has to do with my argument?...sooooooo...
Pity it’s strung as a right handed guitar… so it’s not really the way Jimi played. Jimi played a left handed (and left hand strung) guitar upside down. Not a left handed guitar string as a right handed guitar.
Jeese man that's amazing! I'm a life long Hendrix fan and you widened my eyes! Playing is spot on, effects are just a bit over cooked. A little less reverb, distortion , fuzz.
@@chrisb2038 I'm not saying he sucked at it. I'm just saying you cannot replicate something you can't feel. Hendrix' talent came from his environment and experience. This kid will never be able to experience what Hendrix did so he can only "kind-of" sound like him.
Jimmy couldn’t play classical music, he just ripped off blues players that came before him because it’s way easier. Anyone can play anything if they practice, Hendrix’s pentatonic throw up isn’t original or exactly top shelf in regards to technique.
@@chebrneck i dont think youre a musician or know a single shred about music if thats how you perceive people playing. this guy actually plays incredibly well that only a blind man cant see it
I have 2 relatives who went to Woodstock and a co worker whose an old head to the max. it killed me to hear all of them say it was terrible. A muddy, depressing mess where anyone who was sober enough to actually enjoy the music were pretty much incapable of having a good time because of the conditions. Really sucked to hear from two different parties.
I made it in the Jimi Hendrix guitar Competition at 20. Anyone can play this, but noone can do it like Jimi. I do all his songs. Got a great version of Little Wing. Castles, Axis, all of em. But trust, a dime a dozen..
Exactly what I told my nephew to do when he was going through his Jimi phase. Get a lefty strat, restring it for a righty. Then you have the pots, toggle and whammy bar the same as Jimi. Hendrix used his arm alot on the bar to free up his left hand. My nephew was a happy rocker after that. 💯
