This isn't a "good" video on VORs, it is the best one ever. No one has ever explained it so simply and easily as this guy does. Fantastic job. I bet I have listened to a dozen different videos, each a dozen times or more, and still stay confused. With this one, a kid could understand and follow it. Keep up the great work.
I wasted my time and spent hours trying to understand these stuff through theory while a video with just 6 mins finished everything and it's just stick to my mind and won't forget it at all .. thanks a lot
Having more than 13000 airline hours, having several ATPL exam around world and questions of "which is the position of aircraft according to HSI" literally KIIIIILL ME ( VOR is not even MEL to airlines). From now on, your video made me immortal. Many thanks!
yes because the atp checkride in chile is done in a plane which requires a copilot... impossible to take atpl ride in navajo or apache in usa i took the atp ride in c310 which had hsi and so written test had hsi questions... its very expensive to take check ride in level d or lear jet ! previously 90% in took atp in a small twin THEN they took checkride in a sim for their type rating for i.e. b737 etc - step-step BUT now there is the stp requirement and that course is 5 to 7 thousand dollars so 90% of people are taking their me atp checkride in sim at an airline (they pay) very few now getting their atp in small twin because required to pay for that ctp course before you can take written exam and thats why nobody but airline pilots have atp in chile the air taxi just comercial ifr me no se si entiendes mi english... .....mae con examenes de sangre etc 600 dolares in 2004 en argentina medico completo 20 dolares ! estafadores en chile
Thank you, from the depths of my consciousness, I was desperately looking for a SIMPLE STRAIGHT FORWARD explanation and after 6 minutes , I got it ! I GOT IT !!! I'm really crying 😭
Glad we could help you. Keep in mind that our full courses make every aviation topic just as easy and guarantee you a pass on both you written and check ride: passfaaexams.com/
+Evens Francois Thank you Sir Simple is the way of Pilot Training Solutions. A 99% pass rate on the first try from our students is only achieved by making it simple. passfaaexams.com/
King Schools should hire you to redo their VOR videos. This is WAY easier to understand. I haven't gotten a single practice test question (on VOR) right up to this point and searched "understanding VOR navigation" on youtube in desperation.
I've been trying to understand VOR by watching all kinds of complicated videos all day and this guy made me understand in 5 minutes..... You gotta be lying, was it really that easy understand??? WOW
Wow! Thank you! I am in ground school and I had a basic understanding but was not getting that aha moment where it fully clicked until I saw your 3 VOR videos. Thank you for making it much easier to understand.
Hi. Thanks for directing me to this updated video of your older one. Both brilliant. I have been flying sims on and off for over 30 years, and I always had to strain my brain figuring out VORs. With your method, it takes less than a second, and very little effort. Thanks again!
Hello Sir, I am working through ground school and I just want to let you know this video was a huge help! I find some FI's over complicate things when really the concept is very simple. This video gave me a new way of looking at the VOR indicator. My future rating thanks you!!!
I wonder who keeps thumbing down our videos (not Really). Maybe our competitors should realize that when the Thumbs Up are 100 to 1 versus the Thumbs Down, adding a thumbs down just solidifies the good quality of our videos and their envy towards them!
Gian Luca Noia Dont worry Gian, someone keeps thumbing down mines too. Ill I do is make music videos to inspire future aviators. I guess you cant make everyone happy
I've "thumb down" few videos on RU-vid over the years by accident, and it can't be undone. Besides, some guy might think it's funny to be first thumbs down on a video. Who knows. Certainly this video is two thumbs up.
Gina, I gave you a thumbs up, however, I don't personally look at it as in "competitors" or a competition on any level especially when it comes to GA training or learning. Nevertheless, don't sweat the down votes; Jokers are everywhere. Keep up the good work! :o)
You are a GENIUS! I was struggling to understand the nonsense of this freaking instrument. With your method? Holly Molly! so freaking easy. Now I like VOR :-) thank you so much!
Learning aeronautic navigation just for fun, and love this video. Much easier to grasp than others but now need to learn what to do with the 250. Thank u for the video!
Keep in mind that our full software uses the same teaching methods as intuitive as the system used in this video. Using our software will not only guarantee you will ace your written test but also greatly increase your know how and allow you to become a much safer pilot: passfaaexams.com/
@@joelmulder Well again our software teaches you the material in a simple format and does not focus on question and answer. We actually have many customers from Europe.
@@GianLucaNoia Well, in that case I'll go give it a closer look! I wouldn't be surprised if the name "pass faa exams" puts some Europeans off, like it almost did for me. Thank you!
@@joelmulder Yes it's true. Keep in mind though that the actual company name is Pilot Training Solutions as a matter of fact if you go to pilottrainingsolutions.com/ (which was our original website) it will redirect you to our new page at passfaaexams.com For google optimisation they told us that passfaaexams.com would pull more ranking.
Wow, This is a real quick and easy way to help find your self around a VOR. Not all planes have GPS. I will be using this to help me from getting lost.
Hey Gian, I must confess the first video I saw of yours absolutely confused the heck out of me. This one is a keeper for being so easily understood. Well done.
My mind is blown - this is WAAAAAAAAY EASIER than everything I've been trying! My CFI gave me this vid and I'm going to go buy him a present just for sending me to this video. THANK YOU!
just looked VOR up in curiosity (not a pilot, have no training), watch 2 other videos before this one, and although learned what VOR is and somewhat understand how to read them in 20 minutes... this video taught how to read it in less than 2. THANK YOU! although I must admit... why these VORs arent at airports (where you can land) is still a mystery.
I finally got it!!! This is about the only video that explained it in a way that made sense. Now I should be able to answer all these questions on my exam.
If I understand, it doesn't matter where the OBS is set. You will still get the same indication. Think of the OBS like a clock with 12-9-6-3 corresponding the N-E-S-W. If you take the example of the VOR starting at 2:59, the indications are that you are NE of the VOR (045) and fly a heading of 225 to the station. If you turn the OBS so that S (6 o'clock) is at the top (12 o'clock), the headings between 12 and 3 change from 0-90 to 180-270. The flag will shift from down to up (to) and the needle will move to the right side. Applying the technique will tell you to fly to heading under the red marker in the right, upper quadrant which is 225 to the station. The opposite of that heading is 045 which is your location.
Thank You Gian for this valuable great tutorial! i have been strugling so much, and this video cleared my thinking on this issue. I am so greatful to you!
Simon Wiltshire - Agreed, and great way to quickly grab a heading to a vor, but in your remark about doing things in difficult ways lies my point. VOR navigation is a "Difficult" and certainty outdate way in itself. With GPS, vor is useless and should be eleminated. The only valid arguement is the "what if your gps fails?" My reply would be, what if your radio fails and you cant tune the vor? What then? The most worthy answer would be dead reckoning. Well the same answer would apply to a gps failure. But, in todays age, we all carry cell phones, and they all have gps. So while most pilots dont carry a backup for radio failure, most do carry backup for gps failure. The inability to process vor information in an emergency has led to many deaths. It can be difficult when everything is going right, and under stress more mistakes are likely to be made. With gps, keep the airplane symbol on the pink line. Pretty simple under stress. And no, I didnt thumbs down this video, in case anyone was wondering. It is explained very well for someone to wrap their head around the concept, so it was thumbs up for me. My issue is with VOR itself, and the comment regarding "Difficult ways" made me want to point out that VOR in itself is a difficult way, and one we dont have to deal with. Cheers mates, and happy flying !
While this is one of the best "Quick Tricks" I've seen, if someone thinks using a VOR is too difficult, they shouldn't be an IFR pilot. Please consider that lots of pilots have been lost by relying on a single information source, because they didn't cross check. Yes, GPS is great, convenient, etc. and I think they are an awesome tool. But they are not infallible, nor are pilots. What happens when a pilot misprograms, a GPS, and doesn't realize it? They're lost. and worse, setup for CFIT, which has happened more than once. Equipment failures or misinterpretations happen. so we Cross check. Just like any other instrument, navigation should be cross checked. VOR's can be cross checked against GPS, or each other. GPS nav should be crosschecked against another source, VOR being the only one available in IMC (unless you've got RNAV, unlikely in GA aircraft). Two GPS Recievers shouldn't be checked against each other because there are common failure modes (lack of visible satellites for example). A VFR only pilot should be cross checking NAV against a chart, with IPADs holding so many charts, it makes having one at hand simple. No one maneuvers solely by reference to a single instrument, neither should we navigate by reference to a single NAV tool. Even pilotage cross checks, map against compass and watch. The only type of navigation I can think of that doesn't cross check is Dead Reckoning, but then, if you Reckon, wrong, you're dead. So maybe wait a bit before you so eagerly relegate the VOR to the trash can. Those of us who like to fly safe are going to need it a little longer.
I was teaching this "cheat code" to a ground school student, and it worked very well. *EXCEPT* when the CDI is not fully deflected. When it is not, you know that the deflection is less than 10 degrees, so a 45 degree angle becomes less optimal. Otherwise, this is the way.
Awesome!! I am confused too. what reason a thumbs down are given. the kids these days ate over simulated. They should see the videos that we had to go through years ago. Remember the monotone, black and white, reels that skipped et...maybe if explosions and fire and shooting was added to your videos maybe that is what's needed. Personally I think your videos are perfectly fine, easy to follow and keeps one interested to continue. Thanks for your work

flyboy682 Thank you sir. Finding simpler ways to teach difficult aviation topics so you can steam through all your pilot exams is all we do at Pilot Training Solutions passfaaexams.com
donnyguns1 Yes we find quite a bit of resistance with some old instructors. I always challenge them to see who can figure out their position from any given VOR more rapidly and since it takes me less than a second, guess who wins ...
passfaaexams.com/ This is just one of the simple explanation our software and apps contain. NDBs, VORs, Weather, Approaches and all other explanations will cost you 5 minutes of your time rather than months to understand!!!
Thank you so much sir! I'm studying for my PPL and I was having trouble with the VOR exam questions but now it's super easy. Thank you so much and God bless.
No problem Sir. If you need more help on Radio Navigation here is another of our videos: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-h0Z_j9Xy6Cw.html This video is the full Radio Navigation Chapter taken out of our Private Pilot Interactive Test Prep Software/App which you can find at: passfaaexams.com/private-pilot-knowledge-test-prep/
Thanks very much, since I ran in to this video, I'm enjoying out of cockpit more :-) still this works for me, awesome I wish I had you as my instructor, thousands thanks again.
