They should send the new nozzle to everyone who ordered the printer. That would be a PR win. The least they could do is send the new nozzle to anyone who asks for it.

I would prefer a threaded nozzle. Lessen the chance of it falling off. Chc pro been good so far. Next will be trying a TZ-V6.

I swapped my SV08 over to the bambu knockoff hotends. It was a really simple swap. The peace of mind and hardened steel nozzle was well worth it.

While looking at the spare nozzle one simple cheap fix would be to add a 1.5mm lock screw to the nozzle before press fitting.
@nunovicente34
@nunovicente34 3 месяца назад
The problem with the hotend is the manufacturing tolerances. Most people are having fails printing Petg and not other high temp materials just for the fact that most of the printers sold are not enclosed. If not would also see a lot of this problem with Abs etc, because the higher the temp the more it expands and so makes it easier for the nozzle to fail in such way. If the manufacturing tolerances were better you shouldn’t have issues up to 300c hotend temp like most press fit nozzle/hotend designs are rated to.
@MaximalistWorkshop
@MaximalistWorkshop 3 месяца назад
That was my guess two videos ago, but there are many people using the printer with ABS and ASA right now, especially since the enclosures have been released (mine arrives in two days) and people have been building their own. Some have also been printing with those materials without enclosures because it's worth a try. But there hasn't been a single report of this happening with a material other than PETG that I'm aware of. Per the video above and given the number of failures with PETG, this suggests that probably it's not just the temperatures.

I had exactly the same problems a few days ago, I have only printed PCTG since I got the SV08 (about 50 hours of printing) and yesterday the nozzle slipped out and scratched the whole build plate. Sovol responded immediately (a few hours later) and I get a new hot end, a new build plate and a new nozzle. They also wrote: "We have updated this nozzle and it is expected to be sent to you at the end of this month." So I think the new design of the nozzles is already ready.
@MaximalistWorkshop
@MaximalistWorkshop 3 месяца назад
Thanks! Yep - I have a couple community posts with more recent updates from Sovol. No time to make another video, unfortunately. Still trying to get the S1 to work. I had the same experience with their customer service. That they told me the same thing is also the reason I made this video. It's covered at about 5:25. They didn't send me a new nozzle, though. Probably waiting for testing on the new batch they're making to be done. Messaging has been mixed on whether the issue was the design - they're saying now that it was just the manufacturer not building to the right tolerances. I guess we'll see.

i can tell you now, without going past the 1.4minute mark, 100% of the issue is the fact that the nozzle is "press fit" into aluminum. Press fitting + pressure + dissimilar metals with dissimilar thermal expansion rates == problems. Ir really doesn't matter if it's a "clone" or not, you're press fitting steel into aluminum. this is already a bad idea, because one of them is very soft. On top of this you're doing so in an environment that will see thermal expansion, and high pressures under load.... It really doesn't take an engineering genius to determine this is a design flaw.

Sovol sells them on their website, but if you order just the nozzles, they don't send them. I mentioned it in my earlier video - I ordered a set with the printer when I first bought the printer during the first minutes of presale months ago, and I bought another set of nozzles when the nozzle issue first started happening. I have not received either set. I understand that Sovol is not actually shipping orders of nozzles until they fix this issue, but it's possible that they're just that low on stock. @@winandd8649 Definitely unfortunate. Makes sense, though, given (1) how many pre-orders they have backed up and (2) they may want to send anybody who bought nozzles the new design as opposed to the existing one since they know the existing one is falling apart on people. If those are the reasons I'm waiting on nozzles, I'm fine with waiting to get nozzles I can have a little more faith in, but I can't recommend that other people buy this machine until that happens.

If you have a large print with a lot of long straight lines or circles, independent of acceleration, the effective volumetric flow rate at a given set feedrate is going to be very similar, so if it were that, the hotend-nozzles would be disassembling themselves just about the same. The acceleration on the T300 isn't that low. The max movement speed is not reached (at all) but you run into max volumetric limit within like a centimetre or a couple of start of acceleration, which stops it from going full speed. I think the acceleration itself is a contributor to peak nozzle pressure since every time you accelerate or decelerate there's that pressure buildup. Without pressure advance or with undertuned advance, there would be pressure buildup on deceleration that pressure advance is preventing. Pressure advance isn't tuned to pressure, it's tuned to flow, to achieve the consistent flow in time for the corresponding XY movement, so on acceleration, it ramps up pressure to make up the flow. So at higher acceleration values, the PA incurred pressure is correspondingly higher. Now you look at your calibrated K-values for pressure advance. You will find that ASA, ABS and HIPS have a low value, PLA has a slightly higher value but not by much, and PETG has twice as high value on 0.4mm nozzle. Curiously on larger nozzles the difference is smaller, i wonder why? PETG has really weird flow properties. It's called linear advance in other firmware because the amount of motor steps additionally emitted (to advance the extrusion motor) is a linear factor (K-factor) multiplied with the desired change in extrusion speed (extrusion acceleration). Now it's really difficult for me to reason what sort of pressure relationship occurs when you quickly double the effective amount of material supplied, it could be much more than double the amount of pressure. After all you can put 1 litre of water into a 1 litre bottle at atmospheric pressure, but if you put 2 litres of water into that bottle, it wouldn't be at double the atmospheric pressure, it would be at an unimaginably high pressure. When you open a bottle of soda, it's got maybe 3atm internal pressure keeping the gas dissolved, but there isn't 3 litres of water in there, you know? :D Oh btw sorry for extra confusion, the base for the values is different all over the place, the factor and calibration value are not the same. It's almost beyond human comprehension. Maybe i'll understand it properly someday.
@MaximalistWorkshop
@MaximalistWorkshop 3 месяца назад
That all makes sense - thanks for explaining, Siana! If these nozzles were more available, it would be interesting to run stress tests with various parameters to see if we one could eliminate the issue without the need for a hardware change.

I wouldn't say printing pressure is higher with PETG which would indicate via stickiness in a friction test, but the glycol portion does expand more versus other polymer formulas. At any rate, I've been on the fence about this printer versus something like the Qidi max 3. I'm mostly a resin printer but have a few project FDM machines that aren't reliable, and need one that is for mold-making with higher-spec materials. I've been leaning towards the 'enclosed' option of the SV08 for the open-source nature mostly, as I could see it being Ender-like in longevity. That Revo mod is amazing to see already and I'd be onboard to swap to one right out of the box. Availability of hardened nozzles for filled/abrasive materials is also a consideration against the SV08 presently.
@v1Broadcaster
@v1Broadcaster 3 месяца назад
Personally the idea always replace the nozzle immediately, and hotend almost immediately anyways on a new printer.
@MaximalistWorkshop
@MaximalistWorkshop 2 месяца назад
Never heard of that before, but I don't know why it would be necessary on anything other than an Ender 3 from 2016, especially when you're talking about the entire hotend on a brand new printer, and it wouldn't have solved the issue here in any case. The problem wasn't that the nozzle was worn down - it's that it was defective. Also, new stock hotends aren't available for this printer, so why would one burn one of the only two that comes with the machine without any reason to believe it's problematic? If I had done that and the spare hotend failed the way my original one did - and there's no reason to believe it wouldn't have if I ran PETG through it - I would have been left with a paperweight for weeks.

Unless you enjoy dealing with all sorts of problems popping up and getting in the way of you actually 3D printing, I never recommend getting any printer until it has been out for at least 6 months to a year. By then you should at least be able to find out what the quirks are, and in many cases, those problems may have already been addressed. It's great having cutting edge tech, but not if it causes complete failures because so many companies put 3D printers out without doing enough (if any) serious testing.

@MaximalistWorkshop 3 месяца назад
Thanks! You can fix the issue without changing the hotend, but my understanding is that the hotend is what's changing, as opposed to just the nozzle. It's possible I misunderstood, but I'm not sure where you would put a screw on the nozzle itself in this case. That distortion is going to be normal for a little while until I have more time to work on these videos. The audio is clipped.

Just use a screw nozzle, sovol. Like, why press fit. That's annoying.
@SianaGearz
@SianaGearz 3 месяца назад
That shouldn't work. Normally heat-press parts do not have any actual gap between them and if you were installing them with some sort of adhesive well that would just get pressed out. Then when heated it'll fall apart anyway since the problem is effectively not the fit, it's the loss of tension that would be resisting disassembly when the subassembly is at working temperature. To the extent that any actual gap might really exist, then the forces caused by thermal expansion are so immense, i can't really imagine anything being able to stay cohesive in there. "Just use a screw nozzle" does sound good though :D I mean also ideally to the extent that it can be done without compromising performance much, and by all reason it can, we'd have standard compliant parts that we can second-source if need be. I don't like the trend towards proprietary everything when a V5 heatbreak, a V6-like nozzle maybe with a homogenisation insert, and a Volcano hotend with a copper adapter inside combo performs as well as it does.
