To riverice7-Yes, that is Vincenzo Scalera on piano. He has accompanied Florez for some time . Vincenzo was also with Carreras in the late 80s. Vincenzo is my nephew and I am so proud of him!
He is such a wonderful and empathetic pianist, always supporting the expression of the singer and giving him space. I just heard him and JDF together live in Salzburg and it was the best Liederabend we ever heard. Can you ask him if they can make a CD recording together please:-)? They have performed together for so many years, a CD would be a real treat!
It's a very impressive interpretation of this beautiful song by very young Juan Diego Florez. The only weak point of this performance is his problem with singing low notes - they are hardly audible. But the voice is so fascinating, so wonderful! And the pesonality of the singer is mesmerizing... JDF is so skinny here and looking tired. Where did he take enough energy to sing like that? Bravo!
Have you listened to him lately? Still the high notes, perhaps not as bell-like, but not the low notes are full. I agree, he looks skinny and tired here, perhaps the end of a long tour?
Credo proprio di no!
