today i was in the forest and saw a little water pond not so big. it was red and i threw something in, then i saw the vortecies and i thougt: yes finaly i found a place to see the vortecies good. and i played the whole time with the water and people came and watched me and i said hello and they didnt insult me :)

Wonder what an underwater speaker will do with a venturi tube wave guide. Blu-tooth various tones into it to see various rates of movement.

If the vorticies have progressed sufficiently far from the nozzle, does it really matter if they interact? The propulsive force on the vehicle is just the sum of pressures and shears across all surfaces, so how would an interaction away from the vehicle have any effect? Thanks in advance for clearing this up for me!

great observation. the propulsive force is affected by vortex interactions only when the vortex rings are still near the nozzle (i.e. when the interactions can still affect the nozzle overpressure). That effect drops off quickly as the rings move away. Because of this, the forces measured in the paper were only measured while the rings were still forming (green fluorescent videos, close to the nozzle). Although there is little visible mixing in those videos, the developing vortex rings still have a strong effect on each other, because the pressure fields they generate travel at the speed of sound (much faster than the videos). The backlit experiments don't directly reveal the nozzle forces, but they demonstrate rich vortex dynamics. In this case, they also provide the correct intuition about how interactions affect momentum transfer (stronger interaction leads to slower rings and less thrust).

What effect do the vortexes have in air? With bigger propulsion? I mean their impact on rocket efficiency ;)
