I was in the market for another inexpensive red dot for a build. Decided to give the votatu PMD 504. The construction is as expected. The glass is just okay, but the dot itself is the winning part. The circle dot is magical for my astigmatism! It’s better than the Holosun 507c that’s on my carry gun. Crazy.
I have this optic and it holds zero, has 3 reticles, side load battery port, rmr footprint, all for under $100. Haven't seen them on Amazon in a while though.
I recently bought the Walther PDP F series, excellent handgun. As well as the Votatu H8L-G flashlight with laser and the green dot PMD 504. In my opinion, both the weapon and the rest, the combination is perfect. Thank you for this incredible review. Keep going
The dot says it’s 2moa like my Holosun(same reticles), but when I change to the circle dot on the votatu, the center dot seems to shrink down to like 1.5 MOA or smaller. Thing is magic for my astigmatism !
14:04 I think if you just apply a little bit of oil or grease on the O ring, it will protect it and keep it conditioned. Plus the grease will add water proofing. Nice dot.
You beat the ever living $#!+ Out of that red dot and it still functions. I'm sold buying a few to put on my caniks. Get 3 quality red dots for the price of 1 holosun.
What barrel are you running? It's hard to know what to buy an inexpensive Combat Armory, Aim barrel or something more expensive. You had quite a few jams for just that amount of dirt, I think the open slide cuts def hurts reliability. I don't understand the piont of the cuts unless it's for competition otherwise you are just creating huge holes for dirt to poor in, great video though!
That wasn't really a lot of jams. It was packed pretty full of dirt and the slide cuts had little, if anything to do with it. Slide cuts are for lightening the slide. Hence why they're called lightening cuts. A lighter slide means less recoiling mass, which equals less felt recoil. In some slides, there's cuts to match up with ported barrels as well. I have an AIM Surplus barrel in a Sig P320 and it runs fine. The barrel in this pistol is an OE G19 gen 3 barrel with about 20,000 rounds through it. My favorite "budget" barrel to date is the Bear Creek Arsenal stainless steel barrels. I have three of them and they're all good to go and accurate. My carry pistol (G19 gen 3) has an AIM Surplus slide and BCA barrel in/on it. For Combat Armory, I've had mixed issues with them and can't really suggest their stuff any more.
Great test Matt! Thanks And for those who haven't seen Matt in person...he is built like a tank and definitely very strong, so watching him slam that thing into the table was quite comical while not expecting it to even endure that part lol
Should have taken the oring off the busted up sight to check if the door stays shut. Pretty sure it won't. Another thing you have to worry about with that oring is dry rot.
For 125 bucks I bought one. Figured its worth a test. The battery door can be held shut any number of ways since the battery life is 50000 hours. As long as it’s water rating isn’t compromised, the thing will be fine. Issue with cheap dots is the turrets and breakage. This is pretty sturdy.
Canadian here and I love the freedom you guys got there. Just curious when you guys go out shooting in the desert are you usually the only ones out there shooting? or is there a bunch of other shooters within proximity. LOL at the 10:52 mark, as i am typing this message I can hear someone else shooting. That is awesome. But isnt it kind of dangerous for others who are hiking, dirt-biking on these same public land? or is there certain, posted areas that live gun fire is active. And also are you allowed to hunt predators out on the desert?
There are a bunch of shooting spots around this particular mountain. But they're not right next to each other or anything like that. I'd say there's no more danger than shooting right next to someone at an indoor range. For hunting..you can hunt on public lands, assuming the game is in season. There are varmint and nuisance laws, but since I'm not a hunter, I'm unsure of the details of those laws. Thanks for watching!
Hey RTT awesome review just picked up this red dot after your review of it and got an aimsurplus slide for a Glock 17 like the slide you have here on your Glock 19. Out of curiosity what owb holster do you use for it? I have a Safariland GLS but it wont fit with that slide and barrel combo for some reason.
@@RTTGunsGear Thank you for the quick response man, I truly appreciate it. I have been having a hard time finding out which holster to get and didn't want to spend 100+ bucks and get the wrong holster.
@@DesertTacticalWith a 50000 hour battery life, change the battery once a year or so, throw some decent grip tape over the battery tray, and call it good. 😂
@@RTTGunsGear just finished the video @1.75 speed,(makes every video look like it's hopped up on too much coffee) but it looks to be a good contender alongside ADE, and Cyelee for budget red dot on a ED carry CZ-P10C and Walther Q5 Match(poly not SF) for OWB USPSA/IDPA next season. @ a better price range than the Holosun, it'll be easier to convince the Mrs. to parcel the money for my habit/hobby. We shall see.
Great review man!!!! I am looking for a good budget Red Dot.I am not trying to break the bank for my first Red Dot.This one sounds better then the Crimson Trace 1550 I was looking at.I have a Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 4.25inch barrel. This one sounds like it.New sub here also, and I dropped a like buddy!!!
I have a Cyelee Wolf0(105 got it for 86), Votatu AMD 504(125), and Holosun 507c(330 😖). The Holosun has the most features of course, but the votatu has the same reticle choices and 2moa dot at less than 1/2 the price. The votatu has a clearer circle dot reticle (looks great even without my glasses) but the dot or circle by themselves are the same to my eyes on the Holosun and the votatu. The wolf0 isn’t worth 100 bucks if you ask me, but it’s 3moa dot works, even thought it blooms the most to my astigmatism. The votatu is the best value (if it lasts).
Does anyone know what height iron sights he is running on the dagger? Looking to get this exact build and dont want the irons getting in the way as it will just be a gun for fun not edc
If the o ring comes off just put a piece of tape over it may not be water proof but your back in the fight and after all it's only a 140 bucks you can get 3 for the price of a holosun
@@RTTGunsGear Do those vot still work fine? And sure I'd rather have a holosun too, but since all my guns currently only have iron sights, it's a lot more doable to spend $400 on three of theses instead of 900$ on 3 holosuns I have 8 guns 7 with irons and one 22 with a crappy 1970s scopes so I just want to finally have optics
@missouripatriot6926 I destroyed one, and gave the other away. The second one worked when I got rid of it. Do what you want with your money. I'm not trying to sell these or Holosun's. I did my job. I tested a product and showed everyone the result. But there's ZERO chance I'd ever buy one of these to intentionally put on one, much less several, of my guns.
I was as impressed with the open slide in the dirt running as well as it did dirty. Thinking about that slide for my g17 with a ported barrel for a range toy keeping the stock slide as is. Seen the review you did on them.
RU-vid tends to get angry about that. So I generally don't give a price. But you know the name of it and you know how to type. You could have found the price with the same amount of effort you put in to complaining that I didn't give a price.
