Ken has lived in Dorset for 16 years, and he has been a Parish Councillor for the past 11 years.
Having persuaded his Parish Council to declare a Climate and Ecological Emergency 4 years ago, he established a Climate Working Group which has successfully decarbonised the village hall by replacing the oil-fired heating system with air source heat pumps. In addition the hall has now been fitted with solar PV panels and battery storage, reducing the hall’s electricity cost and enabling the hall to earn an income from exporting electricity to the national grid.

🟢 KEN ON FARMING
Ken also considers that farming is the single most important occupation of all, but that it is not being appropriately supported. The changing climate is making farming increasingly difficult, both at home and abroad, and many modern farming practices contribute to the climate and ecological crisis, including the pollution of our watercourses. He points out that UK is also heavily dependent on food imports, and so we urgently need to increase our production of home-grown fruit and vegetables. Farmers also need to be adequately supported to enable them to adopt truly sustainable forms of farming, based on organic methods that do not use toxic chemicals.
🟢 AS AN MP, Ken would campaign for a more cooperative and democratic form of government. This would include the reform of the electoral system to adopt proportional representation. He would also make more use of Citizens Assemblies to make government decision making more democratic - Ken advocates for citizens as the main driving force in political decision making, rather than wealthy vested interests.
🟢 KEN SAYS: “Understandably many people are thoroughly disillusioned with the state of UK politics today. Some see little point in voting at all, but voting lies at the core of our democracy and all votes count one way or another. The old way of doing things has clearly failed us, and a vote for the Green Party sends a clear signal that we demand & deserve a positive change for the better.”
