That was interesting to see that the hum balance resistor values were best at 100R / 220R in this instance . Another champion informative video . Cheers

Yeah, they can often be optimal when imbalanced somewhat. A good little trick to make your amps quieter than the competition.

There was a limited run of UK manufactured hand wired 60th anniversary VOX AC15HW60 (based on JMI 1960 AC-15/4), and VOX AC30HW60 (based on JMI 1964 AC-30/6 Top Boost) amps launched in 2017. They have long since sold out but occasionally appear on the second hand market and are well worth checking out.

I hope to get my hands on one of them one day, along with the rare handwired Orange units. Rarely seen an amp I can't improve, but serviceable construction methods certainly help!

What a right bodge on the valve sockets it looks like a 5 year old did them. I know they were cost saving but just open the door you cant solder through the fecking letter box. 🤣🤣 Interesting rework 2x👍

G'day Brad, Yeah... I don't think an animation with voiceover will help. You might be better off with subtitles, like they use on TV's fruit channels. 😁 Anyway, thanks for another great video. You take it easy, & get well soon. Andrew BTW, I hope you don't have 1 of those friggen "don't-make-me-laugh" type flu.

Not having worked on any Vox amps I didn't realize they run the speakers in *series*, for a presumed 16 ohm load here. Is that normal for Vox amps with 2 speakers? ( edited because I had written parallel when I meant to write series, duh; a facepalm moment!)
@BradsGuitarGarage
@BradsGuitarGarage 9 месяцев назад
No, it's in serial, just a neatly twisted pair. 16 Ohm output (there is a green wire soldered to a terminal with no connection on the PCB, that's the 8 Ohm tap if required.) 2 x 8 Ohm greenbacks in series.

Brad, compared to most of the amps we hear you play through, this one seems to make you rethink what, and how, you're going to play. Or is it because of the flu? 🤔😉
@BradsGuitarGarage
@BradsGuitarGarage 9 месяцев назад
A bit of everything to be honest, mate. Haven't been in the best state of mind with the flu and work stress and everything, so maybe that's it. I plan to control the intake of work a bit more stringently in the new year and hope to work on my playing more, so hopefully it gets tighter, more accurate and versatile. I still don't want to be a show-off. I want to show real-world use scenarios which 90% of the time is rhythm playing.

Good observation. Just knocked through a bunch of Marshall repairs, all sound as they should. Plug into my AC30 and it craps over every one of them for beautiful clean tone / slight breakup that inspires music played with feel and imagination. The sign of a good amp -> you aren't playing the same $hit but are inspired exploring new possibilities.
