I actually just bought this amp last week. It's surprisingly awesome. It's really loud for 4 watts and the clean sounds are great. I run lots of Fuzz based effects through this and it gets great tones. Especially when you play it through old Ceramic pickups. for the $350 i paid for it, you can't go wrong.
Sounds great to me. Sounds like a VOX. It may not be the amp to take on the road, but for BR or home recording that is a great little amp. It takes pedals and processors realy well and is wicked versital. I dont own one yet, but I realy want one.
@anthonylv64 its the mic pos depending on how loud the mic is running to the mix board. also when they compress the video for youtube since its not run at 720p or 1080p its possible the audio is being compressed to the point it thins. my videos had that problem at 1st with just my voice over game rcordings so its easy to screw up the sound. They have so many videos to make they probably get lazy and dont watch them. It sounds like they had the mic bad pos and to close. clipping majorly
I have this amp and i can safely say it doesnt sound anything as this. For some reason the tone in this demo makes the amp sound tinny with fuzzy distortion, for a moment I thought paul was running a fuzz pedal through it. I'm a bedroom player and mostly run this amp at 0.4 watts (1 watt during the day) with the volume rarely ever even going past 10 o'clock and the cleans you can get with it is pretty decent. Roll the guitar's volume knob up, and you can get the sound to break up. However I mostly get my OD/distortion sounds from pedals, just engage your pedal and adjust the vol on the amp accordingly to get optimal volume levels. I like to set the tone control at 12 o'clock because I prefer a neutral treble setting from the amp. Its a surprisingly very versatile amp, and you dont really need to spend much time EQ'ing for the right tone.
+cr0wnest Yeah, it does sound like he has a fuzz pedal on it. Weird. I have this amp also and the overdrive sounds different than it does on this video. I don't like the full cranked up overdrive too much, but I do like to run the volume about 1/3 of the way up and slam it with an overdrive pedal which adds some grit to the sound of the amp.
NOT a very good DEMO,, no versatility,, Strat, Paul, and a 335 next time.. I want to add, This amps is designed to be over-driven, to get a natural distortion.. add preferable overdrive or distortion, This amp can go from Chimmy Clean to High Gain Metal.. Iv had this amp for almost a year now, Practice and gig.. Yes I said GIG.. the problem with all these reviews is they don't ever plug them in other cabs. this amp is great like this, take it in the studio :) but I took it to rehearsal and swapped out my fender 75watt pro reverb custom head with this little beast (Just for fun).. setting on a custom Fender 4x12 @8ohm cab all speakers are 65 watt Celestions and Utah's ... I was amazed how this has changed my world, I still can't believe how less wattage was so much better.. I havn't used the Fender since (had to buy a reverb pedal tho)... the tone cuts right through,, I have a nice and quiet pedal board (TC Electronics is awesome), and this set up cranked up has no buzz/humm/very clean, so naturally the tone carries nicely with pedals.. I generally keep the volume around 4 or 5... tone the same.. single coil clean is a bit better than humbucker, and yes at gig volume super clean is impossible, if your looking for that Fender Twin sound (PURE CLEAN), You need higher wattage so the amp doesn't "break up"!! but nothing about this amp sucks... its $200 and weighs nothing, pretty loud, and VERY simple.. The Cab that came with it is still brand new setting in the corner.. but if I ever bring it home I have a cab to practice with.. I'm on a crusade to help these few Reviews .. This amp is really really great, don't waste your money on the cab if you want to gig and jam with a drummer.. It runs at 8 ohms fine,,, never hot.. always rocks :) DON'T SKIMP ON THE SPEAKER WIRE.. I do believe a GOOD Heavy wire will make any amp run better and longer.. especially if your working a 4 watt amp like a its 100 watts.
Do you think that the vox ac4tvh head with a 212 cabinet will be enough to play small gigs with a drummer? I'm looking for a clean sound, and I'm worried that it will distort too much. Sorry for my bad english and thanks!
just remember: you're not listening to a Class A valve amp thru a 12" speaker cabinet. Most likely you're listening to a youtube video on a pc, probably thru some crappy little computer speakers
@gkliwinski 8, 10, 12 or more will only respond to how it delivers the amps power.. a bigger cone will sag a bit and sound loose, adequate for a clean sound taste.. a smaller cone will feel tighter sounding and due to its size will break up quicker than bigger cones.. so its not really a matter of watt-to-cone size relation. the cabinet design also comes to effect as will do your guitar's pickup output.
@Glockenator Same ... Same ... except i got a spider IV ... now i'm gettin this killer Vox .. my line 6 broke with in 2 months thank god i got the warranty
@Esoge I'm entitled to my own opinion, I own a fender deluxe and an orange head/cab, I have quite a few of my own guitars, I'm in a band that gigs regularly, and I've been playing for six years; if I feel that vox overdriven sounds have too much treble fizz for my own tastes, than respect my choice. You're being naive for trying to change someones opinion over youtube, I would add though that I've come to enjoy vox amps much more since i posted that comment (i can't believe you even found it)
well I think it sounds amazing not all of us can afford a two thousand pounds or dollar amps for home use perfect I have this amp and its brilliant nice demo sounds just like mine.
@Esoge Yeh man you're allowed to have you're own opinion too, i have a lot of respect for the vox sound, and they've grown on me, I'd say i'm mostly put off by the indie bands who plug tele's (my fave guitar) into them (and fenders) and dial in very unimaginative tones. Again, I actually wasn't a fan of any marshalls I tired, my intention was to buy a 50w head/cab, and the orange thunderverb 50 and 4x12 sounded better than the marshalls and was handbuilt, no problems in over a year, I love it.
@senojnomis I'd take an Orange over a Marshall any day of the week. Never messed with the Thunderverb, but I've heard good things. Good to hear you're enjoyin it dude.
Oh boy. Please ignore this video if you are looking at getting the VOX ac4tvh. He completely slayed the amp. I own exactly the same configuration. The difference is that I don't make it sound like crapp! He either had a crooked unit or just bad recording!!!!
I wonder how my trusty Epiphone Casino would sound through this.. gotta love the simplicity of this thing - if you want clean, roll the guitar volume down a good bit :)
what... was it the clean channel for the Strat? It sounded kinda muddy. However, for such a small amp, when it was on the Les Paul, the overdrive tone sounded quite nice
I don´t know if the amp sounds bad or if it just is beacuse i´m the first guy to watch the video, and the quality usually is a little bad when you upload a movie,
@minedarea its a sleezy trick that salesman use.......its to make you agree with what they are saying.......dont get me wrong i love this amp though...
I asure that this amp is a bang for the money. I have the same one and it sounds awsome. Much better than the miked sound here. Put a delay and maybe an overdrive pedal before and you wont believe it.
Also, This has a 12 inch Celestion in it. The tone he's getting doesn't sound anything like mine. It comes out much more bluesy and creamy sounding in person.
@senojnomis Honestly it's cool and I agree you are entitled to your opinion and all, but I really can't wrap my head around your thought process on that. Orange amps are nice. I honestly thought you were likely a Marshall nut and personally the only Marshalls I've ever heard that are even remotely worth their praise are the high end full stacks which are just overkill for recording situations (obviously depending on the music and the situation). What Orange head/cab do you own?
@byusnowboarder Oh thank You, I am just a lil'confused. I've got no possibility to try Vox amps - no Vox amps in local stores...I am looking for a good creamy dynamic overdrive for my SSS guitar, it's gonna be my first amp and most people state out that I should go for the tube which is more "alive". Alive tone, that's what I am looking for :)
@senojnomis Yeah I'd describe one of the premier brands that helped define the tone of rock n roll for the next 50 years as "fizzy and brittle" too. Do you even have ears or know what a guitar is supposed to sound like? I'll agree that this is not the best demo of this amp. The mike is definitely clipping and causing a little digital clipping, but how are you gonna say that Vox amps, that have THE signature tone of british amps that everyone seek out for their warmth, are fizzy and brittle?
@BlackDiamond351 @BlackDiamond351 if you mean the sound/processing is too digital i see what you mean, but i meant that the amplifiers themselves are too computer-y. i mean having to operate those things is much too complex and tedious as all hell and then there's MIDI--which is basically creating the sound on a computer and then "uploading" it to the amp, thus your actually playing through a computer file--and even amplifier emulators which sound like s*** by the way
I'm looking to buy my first tube amp and aiming for something which could be quiet enough for my appartment and loud enough to play with a drummer. Do you think this could work? Also: Combo or Stack? Thanks a lot!
Hi Paul i have this head and cab but i cant get anywhere near the amount of fuzz you are getting are you connected direct to the amp or are you using any effects, thanks
he makes this mini stack sound like crap. whatever happened through the chain f'ed this up. it sounds like a low gain fuzz with a ton of gate. making sound like spitting, like i call it
@mallorcasteve hey man, is it loud? and how much more headroom does it have for clean before it breaks up man? and yes with an overdrive pedal (finally someone who uses pedal for this), how well do you set the amp to the clean tone and does it sound muddy when high gain pedals are used? even better, do a short video demo for my sake. hahaha.
@fredfingerfood if you think this is bad, take a look at the vids about a year old and old, i have been saying for years their guitars sound like shit.
Is it just me? or every single demo by Guitar World makes every amp and guitar sound very "thin", "sterile", and "fizzy", listen at 2:27, it's the worst tone I've ever heard in my life, and I know that the little Vox is a great amp, the guitar is a good one too. What the hell is going on with the recording of this damn demos? I really wanna know, is it just me? Can anybody else hear this crap?
