Please more buppers! I read that David Hedison had a great sense of humor. You always left the room laughing when he was there. Richard Basehart had a wonderful laugh I could listen to all day. 😅😅
I got to meet David Hedison at Wondercon in San Fransisco this year (2009). He was really nice. Y'know they charge you to take pics of celebs w/ your own camera! When I wanted to take a pic, his assistant told me I had to pay, but David stepped up and said that I took take a pic for free if I wanted. What a nice man. Thanks David!
I enjoy watching this great Sci-Fi action/adventure series created by Irwin Allen (Lost in Space: 1965 -68 and The Time Tunnel: 1966-67) when I was growing up in the 1960s when I was a kid !! I remember the great performances by Richard Basehart as Admiral Nelson and David Hedison as Captain Lee Crane !! This series which ran on ABC lasted from 1964-65 (in black & white) and 1965-66 to 1967-68 (in color) on Sunday nights at 7 !!
When I was a kid, I wanted a Seaview, complete with the flying sub, until I found out the real subs are nowhere near as room as the Seaview. And, they don't have windows.
My dad would yell down the hall, "Are they doing it, yet??" Whenever they started falling from side to side in the control room, he'd come running. Pop just loved those parts.. Then he'd start "falling" from side to side in the family room, and we'd just be cracking up.
I still get a kick out of the fact that, whenever they crash into, or are near the ocean bottom, there's still light down there! You can see everything! Yes, I do realize that, if you can't see you have no show, but still, the scientist in me....
Yea, David Hedison ROCKED & he tied as best coice for Felix Lieter in the Bond Movies with the late Great Jack Lord(who was almost Kirk on Star Trek!!). As for Formula, so true, either it was Evil Genuis's fault, or the tenticaled monster or the aliens attacking FIRST the Seaview, then the world! And the Flying sub was one sweet ride! Thanks for this post. Me laf-fed!
I remember most episodes involved someone 'new' getting on board (Evil Genius), then weird phenomenon occurred followed by comments such as: "I think this bad stuff all started after Evil Genius got on board..." and: "You could be right.. let's keep an eye on him" Formulaic to a T.
...I heard the bucket at 0:15! The signal for the actors, to do the famous 'Seaview'- Rock'n Roll! Sadly, the 4 (and final) season be released not until in 2009.
Er..best CHOICE...Also, I thought Basehart was great as Nelson. One of his most famous roles was as Ishmael in Moby Dick with Gregory Peck as the Mad Ahab and some may remember his roll as Wilton Knight, the creator of K.I.T.T.! Admiral Harimon Nelson was also a scientist--a kind of Alan Quatermass meets Challenger of the Lost World novels. Other faves: Kowalski(Ski!) & Sharky. As for what Base was doing in the 2nd clip: totally losing it.
I never got to see the show, I was born 3 years after it went on the air. I love Richrd Basehart, so I came to this video. What in the living hell was Basehart doing in the second clip? David Hedison cracked me up, esp that 1st one. Anyone know if this series is on DVD? I'll have to look into that.
if anyone knew those times with Erwin Allen productions,he ran a tight ship with strict production budgeting and usage of film..you had to get the takes right,,not more than 2..takes,thats why the bloopers were costly business ..not much to be funny about.
