yet another classic 60s tv show,that seemed to be ahead of its time,loved it and at 55 yrs old l still love these old tv shows,,and l make no apology,

Many 60s tv shows have great theme tunes - but it's this one that takes me back more than any other to that era, which was my favourite time - and makes me wish I was back there again now!

I feel so sorry for the kids of today....we seemed to have had all the great TV shows in the 60s, especially if you were a kid then, and of course Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was one of the best.

I watched this show all the time in the 60s. It seemed the submarine was always catching on fire every episode but it was great.

Voyage was ahead of its time in 1964, when I was just eight, I loved Seaview, and that complex theme tune. That flying Sub. If only I could be back in 64 again and relieve my childhood with my late parents...

The theme was written and composed by Paul Sawtell, who also scored the original theatrical film starring Walter Pidgeon and Robert Sterling in the parts played by Richard Basehart and David Hedison on television. Sawtell also scored the original 1958 20th Century-Fox shocker, "The Fly," which saw Hedison and a fly switch heads and an arm / claw. Far less gory than the excellent Jeff Goldblum revisioning, but equally effective.

I remember this show. My family use to watch it every week. It was always some weird creature or something scary they were battling. As a kid it scared me. This came on right before bed time and I would go to bed thinking about it! lol!!

Loved this as a kid - that soundtrack - but even then the stories were a bit off - one member of the crew would see something (like an alien in a big hat or toys that ejected gas) and would have to spend the next 20 mins trying to get the rest of the crew to believe him - of course by now the aliens (etc) were ready to make their move...ah well - I still loved it.

Yeah, that was usually 'Kowalski' in the red boiler suit who, if there was someone in the crew to be 'marmalized' as my Mum put it (hypnotised, taken over, etc etc) it would be him. The forerunner of red shirts on Star Trek??

@JKSpiero -there was no '2hr movie pilot'- The early 60s movie was a stand alone feature that wasn't intended as a pilot for a series. The tv pilot was 'Seven Days To Zero' with Eddie Albert more or less replacing Lorre's Commodore role.

This theme tune is not only one of the best from the sixties but of all time - exciting evocative and simply a beautiful piece of music. I remember the end theme being somewhat longer - do you have the end theme to upload at all? That would be fantastic. Thanks!

Kawolski was the dude in this show,he did'nt get as much airtime as the others,but as kids,my mates and myself seemed to identify with him.Iseem to remember him having a cracking fight with a gillman,and he had (to us) an awesome haircut! hahaha..

I had the Seaview model Submarine from the 2nd-4th season and the Flying sub. Plus the Comic Books, Pb& H.C Books,the The Annuals 1&2&The Lunch Box.Plus the card and Board games. 2-4th season toy model Laser Pistol.

With the possible exception of some early (and mainly espionage-oriented) episodes, this show was not on a par with STAR TREK, but, as a boy, the Seaview was burned as firmly into my memory as the Enterprise was.
