There’s more to weather routing than knowing which storms to avoid. “Voyage weather routing” means taking many different factors into account in order to get the best route for the entire voyage from an economic perspective, including high resolution weather patterns, changing currents, and an understanding of how the vessel behaves in different weather conditions also taking into account the condition of the vessel.
Michael Rasmussen, head of performance at Hafnia talks how operators at Hafnia approaches voyage optimization and weather routing. Hafnia is based in Singapore and Denmark, and owns 86 product tankers, and manages a pool of a further 101 product tankers.
