This is finally us. The band culture in our country is really strong. We are a live music culture. This is synth metal - they are very clever. I am so proud we are sending these guys they love Eurovision and have tried for eight years to make it and won the televote this year. I don't care if you don't like it first listen, I don't care if it wins. What I care about is that this is authetically Australian and despite your comparisons, this really could only come from here. Wait to you see them live. Next level.
As an Australian with a European background, I didn't grow up listening to this genre of music. I will say, this is the music most Australians listen to. Finally they're sending a song that truly represents our country. Personally, I loved Voyagers song 'Dreamer' from last year. I was very disappointed they didn't win in 2022. I quite like this. 😊 Prog Metal aint my thing, HOWEVER, they sound very modern (for a Metal band) so it might appeal to a lot of people. I hope they place well. 🥰
Bulgaria was just a (somewhat) hard rock band, nothing special. This, otoh, is actually the first time we're having a *progressive metal* band in ESC, which is quite a niche genre, so this is a real breakthrough in ESC history. Very excited to see this one on the stage!

@@mapsofpablo Except when you start with "ugh, why rock?", post-rationalisations feel decidedly empty. They are a rock band. Asking "why rock?" is as pointless as asking BTS "why kpop?".

And my natural reaction was “oh no.. why this” “why rock” “I wanted something that I would lke” - that’s not the same as “Why can’t everything just be about what I like” as you said. That’s normal. They're a rock band.....why would they not do rock? Eurovision has had a million and one pop songs and ballads, rock and metal have been wildly underepresented for YEARS. Prog rock isn't for everyone, and thats ok, but rock DESERVES to be at Eurovision just as much as generic europop does.
I read in the comments that this is representative of Australian tastes, that many Australians listen to this genre. If that is the case, they did well in choosing this entry, even though the song doesn't do it for me.

Fantastic song, best possible choice from the Aussies. Voyager absolutely wrecked the place in live performance! I am ok that you don't like it, but I am not ok that you had nothing substantive to offer as to why you didn't like it, other than a bunch of wishy-washy chatter that failed to identify what you saw as "flawed" or "missing". In truth, this song crosses so many boundaries so fast, perhaps it is just too much to take in all at once...for those who need their music in neat little boxes, nicely wrapped and packaged. So, to review your review, I give it a "nothingburger rating" of 2 stars. I subtracted one star from five because you offered no substance other than repeatedly stating its not your cup of tea....which only needs a single mention. I subtracted another star for inaccurately insinuating overemphasis on rock styles in Eurovision, which is obviously false. Finally, another star subtracted for missing the video entirely. Just bad. One of the worst quality reaction-reviews on this tune that I have seen.
