Close up look at Heckler & Koch’s smallest firearms. Hammer or striker - which would you choose? Which have you chosen? Would love To hear your thoughts on these two guns! Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing
I just got my P30SK V3 back from Grayguns. I had them install their Straight Trigger, their HK Short Reset System, and their HK Hard Duty Action Work modification. It is now absolute perfection! They now have my P30L V3 for the same mods. Costly? Yes! Worth it? TOTALLY!
I have both the vp9 sk and p30 sk lem both guns are great I do shoot the p30 a little better and they are both good for edc, great review as always! The new 15 round mags are the same size as the old 13 round mags.
My P30L LEM is a LTT. I have the LTT heavy trigger, which is plenty light and very very smooth. Great gun. I shoot IDPA matches with it. I’m likely near 6000 rounds and it’s very reliable. The only problem for me is that it’s a big gun to edc and conceal. In about a year from now with more trigger time, I’m hoping to get an P30Sk from LTT with the exact same set-up. Hoping that all the ergonomics and mechanics will be similar enough for me to be able to be fast, accurate and confident.
Great video! I have a VP9 sk (striker) and a p2000 (hammer). I love the old school feel and feedback of the hammer fired P2000 , but also shoot the striker vp9 sk better. I agree with you in that as long as I train with one I can do well. But I struggle with accuracy at speed firing, double taps, etc when I try to go back and forth. They are both great. I also Love H and K!
Always love your insights would love to see some shooting comparisons between the two next and see how the recoil impulse and handling is different between the striker fired and hammer, I'm willing to bed the hammer fired shoots ever so slightly smoother. As for the mags, the 15 round you're holding in the beginning is actually 17 rounds now, it's just a standard 17 round full size mag with a grip extension. The 13 rounders fit 15, 10's are now 12. All HK magazines increased in capacity by 2 rounds and you can upgrade them yourself with the new spring kit that changes out the follower and base plate.
Oh wow - didn’t realize I could upgrade myself! Totally checking that out now!! Did you get parts at HK’s web site or hkparts.net? Thanks for the info and for watching!!
I only have the P30SK, and it’s a great gun in its own right. However, it also stands out as about the most concealable hammer-fired DA/SA on the market - I can’t think of a smaller one. I hear the VP9 is great with an excellent trigger (though I find bladed triggers distracting). However, there is a ton of competition for 12-15 round striker-fired 9mm carry guns, many of them smaller and/or thinner. And, while both of these pistols are not cheap, the P30SK is at least in line with other DA/SA’s, while the VP9 is several hundred dollars more than other excellent striker fired pistols - I wonder if it can really justify that. For striker carry pistols, I love Sig’s P365 series. For me, the basic design, modularity, and aftermarket just can’t be beat.
Unfortunately, when I was looking for a VP9SK, the only one I found that I could afford had a button mag release. Eventually I’ll convince myself that I need a paddle release version, too. I was leery of the paddle release until I tried one and I love it. I should have waited until I found an affordable VP9SK with the paddle release. The VP9SK is a bit snappier than the full size VP9, but recoil is manageable.
I'm on the fence with both the VP & p30 sk models. I've tried both. The more I try each the more confused I am on which I'd prefer. The LEM trigger on the p30 sk is nice but the break on the vp series just seems cleaner & perhaps crisper to a small measure. Honestly idk you can loose ether way.
Thanks for the excellent video. I’m currently shooting a P30L LEM. It dosent conceal very well. I’m strongly considering the P30SK LEM to transition to for every day carry. I assume the SK will conceal well. I’m trusting that the trigger action/feel will be the same. I’m highly confident in my accuracy of to 10-15 yards with the P30L. I’m hoping that with the same platform, I’ll keep much of that accuracy. Please if anyone reading this has shot a full size and Sk versions with plenty of rounds, please comment.
Keep your eyes open for the HK SFP9CC if you are looking purely for a conceal option from HK. HK unofficially said to expect sales in the US to begin somewhere around early summer 2025, I want to say May or June, I can't remember which, but we will know more after the new year. It's certainly not going to have anything near a full size feel though, it's pure micro. I have a feeling if you want one badly you are going to need to figure out a way to pre-order or get a foot in the door on the first round of shipments as they will likely sell out in a flash and there will be a long wait time after that. For me, there's days for the subcompact cc such as back country or rural and days for the extreme micro such as urban or events...
Based on internet comments I went out and bought a P30 (I already owned a VP9). After some time shooting it, I sold it. If I ever buy another hammer-fired H&K, it’ll have the LEM trigger mod.
Had a P30L and a P30Sk. The right side slide release drove me insane they way it flopped around on such expensive guns. Both were LEM guns and shot well, but the other issue I had was the slide never locking back due to the surfboard sized slide release in the left side. Sold both.
Any P30's by far the best out there Personally I like the V1 better I own the P30SKV1S, P30V1S and the P30LV1S all 9mm The 30L has more then 40,000 rounds true it with 0 problems, malfunctions or jams
I love my P30SK, but tend to shoot to the left about an inch off at 7 yards. I’ve been super careful on sight alignment, grip, etc. Checked the gun with a laser bore sighter and it’s dead on, so it’s me. Using the 13 round mag and have tried all different grip configurations. Still shoot left. Anyone else have this problem?
No, and that's what I carry, P30SK. V3 trigger, old school. Do you shoot left when it's DA, SA or both? V3 or LEM? Have you tried following the tips on a "diagnostic target", the ones that say "too much trigger finger" or "anticipating recoil" "tightening fingers" etc?
@@dashcammer4322 V3, shooting SA. Have followed the tips but can’t seem to correct. Will work on dry firing with the laser and see if I can stop the errant movement
Hey man just a tip for you to help work on trigger control as well - take an empty casing and balance it on the front of your slide near your front sight during dry fire. When the trigger breaks, the casing should not bounce or fall off. It's a good indicator to let you know if you're making and subtle movements when you're pressing the trigger.
