Watch in a VR headset like an Oculus Go for the best effect. Everything’s great about this place, from its great tower, which evokes memories of earlier fortresses like Caernarfon, to the great gatehouse, which ‘wows’ the visitor just as its owner intended. If, as they say, an Englishman’s home is his castle, then William Herbert’s Raglan is the Welshman’s equivalent. Learn more: cadw.gov.wales...
Shot on the Vuze XR VR180 camera by Human Eyes, 5.7k, VR180, 120mbps export and stitching. Let me know what you think about the quality. There are currently no exposure controls so the highlights are blown out on what would have been some amazing shots, hopefully we'll get some software updates soon.

I think that's the kind of subject area where VR180 with its limitation excels at already - thank you for sharing!

Legend has it there was a Waitrose once, but sources are not verified and dubious. I may end up just doing one of all the crappy places around here to inspiring music? Well it is STAINES!

That might actually be pretty epic, just normal places to epic music. You're onto something there! 😂

Thanks for the tour. Can’t wait to view more places you visit! Loved the pleasant audio track, but also missed your commentary. Having the option to choose audio track (in this case music or maven, or choice of language) is overdue for youtube. Also, these days VR cam comparisons & tours need to include a cam-agnostic drone shots too, no? Tours of sights like Raglan Castle are definitely drone worthy (with proper permissions obviously). More work & expense for you? Of course. But you’re the best Tribe Lead ... drawing us into trying this tech ourselves as you build your global community online.

I can't say I know enough about the castle to commentate over it, it would just be me talking about the camera and set up. Maybe I'll plan a visit next time and do some research. 😉

RaMarcus, you seem like a lightening fast learner/teacher, so the research & light script time would be relatively short. Or 5 quid for the local guide? The point is, “develop once, deploy many”. I realize the point is the cam comparison and not the place (Priority matters). But with each of your visits, you’re also helping some of us Americans plan our next visit to your homeland. Back in ‘88, my wife & I followed Rick Steve’s Guide to 21 Days in England, Ireland, Scotland. And we stayed at Ruthin Castle in Wales. But next time we’ll also head down to Raglan Castle, thanks to Ramarcus! And by the way, when Rick Steve started, he was just like you. Look at his global organization now!!

Thank you - very nice castle. I like that you are using only fixed camera position because I always get "sick" when watching moving camera movies on Ocolus Go.
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
Thanks. I did try some moving shots but the stabilisation on the camera isn't good enough and made even me feel ill. I might try an additional stabiliser at some point and see if it helps.

@@RaMarcus Thank you. I just received my own Vuze cam. I recognized that the picture quality is much better when using the PC software compared to the mobile app. I am mainly interested in VR 180 photos. I heve already a Theta S for 360 photos and I love this camera because of so easy handling. The Vuze work flow is much more complex. Greetings from Germany. I've just viewed this on my quest 2 and it absolutely blew me away. Adding to the fact you have my favourite music in the background. I'm currently trying to learn this on the keyboard and notice this version is slightly different and slower which I think gives it more clarity. Might I please ask if you could supply the version name so I can try to learn it. Regards and thanks for this wonderful video.

Thanks Simon. This video was done so long ago I couldn't tell you what the track is called, it was likely from soundstripe, but I don't have an active sub to be able to check.

Looks like the Vuze XR is the way to go for a consumer 180 or even a 360 camera. Yes it has some issues but so do all the other cameras I've checked into. I initially compared it to the quality of my old fuji 3d camera but that really wasn't a fair comparison since it's obviously not a 180 camera and I viewed those videos on a 42 inch TV screen. Totally different experience.

On the stone work you may still see the original stone masons marks . They were unique to each mason . Each mason would use his own distinct mark his whole life . He would mark his work to make sure he got paid . They were itinerant works , travelling from place to place where ever they could find work. The same stone masons marks can be found all over Italy ,France and Spain .

@RaMarcus, without going into too much detail, what tips would you offer for making the most 'immersive' footage possible? I am tourism researcher, and I am currently designing a research experiment that will involve participants watching VR180 'travel scenery' (like what you have shot here) through an Oculus Go headset. I will be filming the footage myself, so I want to make sure I film the best '1st-person' perspective' that maximizes immersiveness/realness. I really enjoy your VR180 videos so far, and I think you have a keen eye for this, so I thought I'd ask you! Thanks in advance!
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
Thanks Joel. It's much the same as virtual tours in general. Keep the camera at about 5' 10" so it feels natural when being viewed. Try to avoid any weird angled shots, keep them generally at head hight and straight on (allow the user to look up and down themselves). Film video rather than take photos, just because it feels more natural and alive, even if there isn't much movement in the scene, the subtle light changes make it feel more real. Avoid moving shots unless you can guarantee they're stable, some can deal with moving shots more than others. Use a Monopod (I use a Bushman Monopod), keeps it stable and easy to move around shot to shot. The Vuze is your best consumer camera at the moment for VR180. I'm in the business of immersive content creation and have an Insta360 Pro 2 camera (8k 360 3D), if you're in the UK give me a shout. 😉

@@RaMarcus thanks for the quick and detailed response. Your comment helps immensely, and I'll definitely make sure to keep this in mind when I film. I just ordered today the Vuze XR for this very purpose, so I'm looking forward to test out some initial footage. Cheers from Washington State U.S!

Oh and I forgot to say, try and keep any "pop out" elements in the middle where there is the most detail. Try and avoid having them at the sides as the parallax will be hard to view for viewers. Think about having multiple layers, foreground, middle and far to make the most of the 3D effect. Anything more than 12 feet from the camera won't really seem very 3D. But at the same time don't over do it, in a headset it can feel strange if everything is very close, mix it up but keep it natural. 😉
@GJoel02
@GJoel02 5 лет назад
@@RaMarcus Great point!! As you mentioned, the key will be to leverage the 3d element the most in these videos, so I'll make sure centralize the most in-depth objects, and also achieve this layering approach. Thanks again! I'll certainly be watching your work closely on here. Best!

@fryguyy

RaMarcus I think that the quality is very high in this video. Most that I see from others channels do not look as good as this one did.
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
My expectations are too high I think, for me the dynamic range needs serious work, the highlights are totally blown out. Anythjng more than 6 feet from the camera looks like mush as well. But as I say, it's a £400 camera, maybe I'm being too critical.
@fryguyy

Thank you for taking me to Raglan Castle, something I may never be able to do IRL as I live in Boston in the US. Watched it in the Go (of course). Beautiful location and shots, great feeling of presence with little details right in front of you. Didn't see any of the issues you are talking about. Vuze XR seems to handle the low lighting (average UK I imagine) pretty well. Have you seen this low light comparison of the Mirage, QooCam & Vuze XR? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O8bcourXz-w.html Vuze XR seems to be handeling low light better then the other two. Great job and Happy New Year!
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
Thanks for watching. Its more the highlights that it struggles with, a lot of the sky is pure white... Even for the UK there were shades of grey! 🇬🇧😎
@ge2719
@ge2719 5 лет назад
did you do the blurred edge or is that how it naturally captures footage? loos a lot better than the harsh solid line most videos seem to have. also might it help to get or probably have to make some neutral density filters to bring down any blown out white?
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
RU-vid adds the soft edge. And I'm not sure how I would add nd filters to the camera but if they have some become available I will get them. We don't even have exposure control with the camera at the moment.
@ge2719

@@RaMarcus you can get 37mm ones for phones that are like big plastic clips, that might fit over the flipped out camera flaps. not sure how good or how useful they may be though.
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
I'll have a look. As it's a 180 camera they would need to be domed as well.
@ge2719
@ge2719 5 лет назад
@@RaMarcus good point. perfect ones for those lenses would need to be domed, the ones i've seen do look pretty wide compared to the phone cameras, but i imagine they would probably still cut off some of the outside edge of the image.

Love this! I'm in the South West too down in West Wiltshire and did this castle ( and few others ) about three years ago on a weekend trip to Wales. Love the vid, good choice of music and lovely shots too, easily the best quality 180 stuff I've seen from comsumer level gear. One question ( maybe I'm missing something ) you say it's 3D too? Admittedly I've only watched this on a laptop so far but doesn't 3D usually have two images side by side or top and bottom? Watching this I'm just getting the one full screen image like a standard pancake vid? Damn you Ramarcus ( waves fist in air ) I may have to buy the Vuze now based on this video, first you convince me to buy the Go now this! Keep it it up mate, really enjoy the content coming from your channel,

Do you feel this is a worthy tech?
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
It's the best consumer VR180 camera available at the moment, but that's not saying much as there are only about 3 cameras to choose from. If you just want VR180 then this is the one to get, it needs some software updates and the 360 is poor. It'll be interesting to see what updates it gets over the next month or so.
@michaelmcgee7138
@michaelmcgee7138 5 лет назад
RaMarcus so chose between this and the insta360 x as a whole, which is the better but?
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
Depends what I want. The One X is miles better at 360 than the Vuze. But the One X can't do VR180. The Vuze is okay in 360 but the detail isn't great and I can always see the stitch lines, always. The Vuze is primarily a VR180 camera, something the One X can't do. I have both. 😁
@michaelmcgee7138
@michaelmcgee7138 5 лет назад
RaMarcus 360 is cool, but do you think 180 has a hold in the market?
@RaMarcus
@RaMarcus 5 лет назад
360 has more of a hold for sure, VR180 is still sort of new, there aren't many consumer cameras yet. I think long term it will take over, it's definitely easier to produce and direct VR180 than 360.
