On and off sound is suuuuper annoying. Videos are extremely helpful. Maybe bring the camera over when taking off bolts that we can't see. Love the info thanks
I agree. You can thank RU-vid's automated music infringement system for that. There was a radio in the background but RU-vid thinks I'm uploading music against the Fair Use Policy of contained in copyright law. Anyways, I was pressed for time so I didn't spend much time positioning the camera. I actually had the bolt sizes and torque values in another version of the video but RU-vid deleted that video for the same music infringement. RU-vid can really be a bitch.
I would remove the front carrier group (bumper and headlight group), especially if it is the first time working on the SAIS. In my video, "VW MKIII Service Position - 720p How To DIY" , it will get you started. After that, all you would need to disconnect is 3 electrical connections and drain/remove the radiator. You will have an amazing amount of room. Just tuck the A/C condenser under the car while you are working because there is no need to remove it.
Just so I'm clear, what does the intake manifold do? Is it just air going to the engine through those tubes? I'm getting a vr6 soon and plan on painting it, trying to figure out the logistics of it. Also, I'm assuming the last part you removed was the cylinder head, so removing the intake manifold won't require any new gaskets to go back on?
Thanks for the info! I have never checked out BMC before. Seems like a great design. Plus, you can never go wrong with carbon fiber, unless you own a honda.
You did!? Please tell us how you achieved such a self-evidently difficult and noteworthy accomplishment! Ladies and Gentlemen, I am proud to be the author of the first ever video to be muted! I can retire content now!
The black plastic bits I took off at first are commonly called "the intake" and the airbox. They filter the air, then meter it with the MAF. The large silver bit I took off was the upper intake manifold. If you remove that to paint it, I would suggest you buy the gasket. The gasket is usually less than $10. I have seen people reuse them, but that's only if you don't bend the gasket when removing or installing. Borrowing a torque wrench is HIGHLY recommended.
Hey great DIY vid. I've watched this along with the upper timing chain one. Your very helpful and I thank you for posting them. The music... Well I could see working with you being a blast, if your music matches your sense of humor! LOL! The next time I head down to Delray Beach I'll have to stop where ever you are and buy you a Beer. Thanks again and to all the haters out there. VR's Rule and Civics drool !
I actually would not recommend a cold air intake. They are not usually designed very well. A very popular intake mod is the "swiss cheese" mod or, as I did, just cut out the bottom of your stock airbox with a dremel. You can find examples of both on google.
where can i find a engine cover like that ? ive looked alittle here and there but can never find a decent looking one .. also thats a clean engine bay .. love the vr6 engines..
I like how in depth you are but Just take off the bolts for the upper intake, the throttle cable bracket and the air intake tube. The whole assembly should swing up toward the windshield. Ought to take 15-20 minutes
thank you very much for your helpful videos how to do you have a video on the mark 3 vr6 how to replace clutch master cylinder and brake master cylinder
+900cc Here it is: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016SFYJSO/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B016SFYJSO&linkCode=as2&tag=wwwyoutub0dd8-20&linkId=I4YLNHNINTSMBLAQ
+900cc It is the best version I have found! Great investment. Other styles bend or have some plastic pieces that will eventually break. This one is solid!
