Adjusting rear shocks on an 03 vrod for preload to stop bottoming out while riding 2up. Here's a link to the specs on these particular shocks www.harley-davi...
Mine has the holes in it, but I figured it would be better to just purchase the $6 tools from Harbor Freight and use them for other things like oil changes, etc. This worked like a champ! The prior owner of my V Rod was super short so he had it at the lowest possible setting. After adjusting mine up a few notches, it rides like a dream. Thank you for this video!
Though I don't have these shocks on mine, I still found this video helpful as it pointed me to a good tool to adjust my dyna's shocks. Thank you! (actually got a pair of these tools, one large, one small at HF for $4.95) And by using this tool I avoided scratching up the chrome on my shocks.
Thank you so much. I just bought a V-Rod a few days ago and it has the same suspension. I have tried everywhere as well to get an answer. You just saved me a few hundred bucks because I was going to replace the suspension altogether.
This video was helpful. Buddy's adjusting his Koni coilovers on his Dyna and I was looking for anything that would point us in the right direction to adjust them easily. Thank you!
Thank You Kevin! I’ve had my 2016 VRSCDX (Night Rod Special) since Oct 2017 (I bought it brand spanking new with no miles). I ride “one up” so haven’t had a problem. I expect to take my granddaughter though, so I may need to adjust load. Thanks Again!
I just bought a Harley Davidson Street Bob. Thank you for posting this video. The dealer offered to adjust my shocks but figured its something I should learn how to do. Probably a different shock, but the method would presumably be the same. I'm 240, and my bike is at the stock setting. The manual says the shocks need to be set to #4. So off I go.
Nice information! It will definitely help to the riders out there. Funny thing is nobody from the harley dealer had an answer. I wonder what kinda wrench they use for vrod. I know for my dyna uses the spanner wrench.
BIG thank you ! Finally , everyone else told me get new shocks with the hight you desire ! And im pointing at my stock ones “ it DOES ADJUST “ just how ! Until i saw your video lol i bet you went through the same shit
Thanks for posting. I just bought a 2011 V-Rod Nightrod. I'm a bigger guy and that was a concern of mine. I was thinking of getting an air ride suspension in the future though.
Dang mine has the holes but I'm still gonna try it your way! I don't have the proper tool so I was going to try a screwdriver or something... I heard that can chew up the holes though so really good solution you came up with!
buy the spanner wrench from harley 12 bucks, this will help you. click that link.www.harley-davidson.com/store/shock-adjustment-spanner?source_cd=SEM_Shop_PLA&_cr=pla%7cGoogle%7c94448-82B_10737&gclid=CjwKCAjw5ZPcBRBkEiwA-avvk3IkeprEqkeViLEqzaaXyJ2zzGCuwiFCyIxj7We8bbXgsv-RZi0myxoC5-4QAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
Just picked up a 2005 v rod with 9800 miles on it. Don’t know a hole he’ll of a lot about v rods, but the price was right. Thanks for the video , the shocks in the back seem very spongy. Should I replace or do you think just adjustment
Thanks! This does help alot. I just got a 09 vrod and it seems to be hitting bumps really hard. My friend sent me this video. I will try it out. Where did you get that seat though. Mine is not contoured and I want one with a back rest and luggage plate
