In this episode, Lee Roy Parnell talks about the influence of Bob Wills, Muddy Water’s signature vibrato, the corruption caused by learning passing chords, Duane Allman’s killer licks, and Robert Johnson’s deal with the Devil (or possibly with a guitarist from south Alabama named “Zeke”).
These sessions help keep the music alive by helping the Songbirds Foundation raise money to buy guitars for kids…check out our website to find out more- songbirdsfoundation.org.
Lee Roy also plays several beautiful Goldtops-his own and a 1958 Gibson Les Paul that is on display at the Songbirds Guitar Museum in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Thanks to our sponsors- The Riverview Foundation, Schillhahn-Huskey Foundation, GHS Strings, GoGo Tuners, and Todd Sharp Amplifiers. Special thanks to John Dooley for the great video work.
WE HAVE SOME BIG SESSIONS COMING SOON: Oz Noy, Todd Sharpe, John Paul White, Jimmy Hall, Parker Millsap, Amanda Shires, and more Moon River Sessions. Subscribe for more!

Lee Roy is one heck of a player. His his vibrato screams Delta.. That Todd Sharp and the Gold Top are blues rock heaven under Lee Roy's control.

Lee Roy is an underrated vocalist and guitarist. But his knowledge on everything in this video left my jaw dropping.... he deserves more credit then what he already has

Mark he blew the roof off. First person out of over 100 interviews to crank the JOAT 20. Todd does an amazing job with those amps and they are built for players like Lee Roy!

I also was in high school when the Allman's came out. It was so huge a fellow guitar player, also 16, ran away from home (Bloomington MN) to try and join the Allman Bros; We laugh hard about it today.

I honestly had no idea Little Walter played guitar. Does anyone have info on what tracks he played guitar on?

My Dad saw Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys many times in Texas at the end of WWII - when he was in the Army. I learned the Blues from early Bob Wills albums.

Just got my LRP Ron Ellis pickup set. Took a long time. Great artist. Maybe a better story teller. I could listen all day.

Does anyone know the song that’s he’s playing when he’s talking about passing chords? Sad and blue? I can’t find it anywhere

Did you ever find out? My best guess is "Would You Ever Think of Me" by the Golden Melody Boys, but I haven't been able to confirm.

Music needs two thing ... Contrast and feeling or "soul" ... And NEVER doubt the devil and his "soul" stealing ... I mean, how do you think the Rolling Stones kept going all this time? Hello? Even through disco?

Here's a wee thought Eddie James taught Robert how to play, and there's a wee bit bottle neck in death letter blues that Duane and Derek expanded and Layla took off and is still strong.
