Once the project is finalized, you can publish and deploy it (there are multiple ways.) like you would install any software. do not forget to visit below link for more reading. Once it is installed, you can launch your app with all the features you've added. In coming days I'll demonstrate small example on how to do that. vbaa2z.blogspot.com/2020/05/vsto-e01-get-up-to-speed-with-vsto-vba.html
VBA A2Z great thanks I would love to see a video on how to action this. keep up the good work. I am really enjoying your videos. I am learning a lot. I do a lot of VBA in excel IDE and HTML CSS and JS in VS. But never VBA in VS so looking forward on trying it out and implementing this in work.
Excellent Videos Pamai. I wonder if you can help me, I started a VSTO project on one computer but want to continue developing in another computer. I am having problem with the key when I tried to build on the other computer. Please help how I can import the key into the other computer. Thanks a lot.
Hi Couple of things 1. Where is the data needed for this exercise? you say it is the same as a previous video but I have just picked it up here and have no idea what data you mean? is there a link to a download somewhere? 2. I tried to create my own dataset to work with but I broke things trying to update it as I went. I got a message telling me an error occured while attempting to persist the data he message returned is: The document is already customized. . ExcelApp I googled how to fix this, but the answer was in C# and complicated, any help?
Is VSTO available on the free Visual Studio version? Does it mean you can do the same macros you can do in VBA on VB or C# ? how do you share a macro made in .net? Thanks!
Visual Studio Community IDE Version is free, so is VSTO. You can do everything VBA can do and beyond using .NET frame work. VSTO is much more mature than Office Add-ins.
Thank youuuuuu so much been waiting for this series for a while , thank youuuuuuu ,vba have a lot of limitations for ex datepicker or forms are little bit old compared to modern form , is this series going to be like the channel name A2Z vsto series ???
You're welcome! I'll try to cover all major topics from development to deployment. We'll learn to work with Office App objects, also with .NET Framework objects; be it Task pane, Forms, Ribbon Designer + XML Designer, other objects, database and more. As always I'll keep it super simple.
i tried vb.net ony my own in Visual Studio.... but i didnt know how to start, the possibilities were overwelming. After this, i found two interesting tools/Software... B4J for Desktop Developement with VB6/VBA and B4A for Android Developement with VB6/VBA....and you have B4R for Arduino...it is very interesting and Open Source) 🤔👍 Thanks for the Video Dude👍👍
Never heard about b4a 😃 When VSTO is created with all .net framework features best go with official project and not use 3rd party tools where additional learning curves + error handling will be more difficult
@@holieh5301 You are right to go with the official software BUT :) the B4a and B4J and B4X and so on is a real VB6(VBA)-syntax and it is transpiled to java and then into an .exe oder .apk or an webapp or so on (when i understood the technique right). It was for me a nice solution to dive in into "real" developement with my VBA knowlege in excel that i have and an IDE which is better then the office integrated IDE. Maybe it is not for everybody an alternative. But Not everybody wants to dive deep into and lern vb.net, because syntax is not always the same...It is just nice to hear and know about it 🤔
Without proper guidance, it can be overwhelming. If you are going to target office application, it is best to use MS Office Development tools, be it VBA, Visual Studio, VB etc. otherwise it would be painful to maintain them.
This is a great video. I'm completely new to using VSTO and was wondering if you could help please. I have an existing VSTO that adds a button to Outlook. I can see that the dll.manifest file refer to class=forward_button.ThisAddIn which I'm guessing contains the code. How do I find/edit the existing code?
I used vba for a few years and you open my eyes from another angle. Love the video! Just wonder, after u added the ribbonx in wb and share with colleague without vs studio, would the ribbonx still work?
Yes, it'll still work. You'll have to publish it first and also select prerequisites needed (.Net Framework version you're targeting when creating the Project) which then will be auto downloaded from vendor sites when user installs it. Good explanation! Thanks! One issue on 11:10 , I'm trying to do the same but "Globals.Scheet2.Range" doesn't work. I gives error because of Range - is not a method (CS1955). What is the reason it could be?
It is not available in UserForm but all good in .NET / VSTO. Please check below for solution ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vudwr00gGq0.html
Hi again Pamai! Do you have any idea about how to prompt a user to select a range on the worksheet in VSTO Add-In just like we do in VBA with InputBox?
@@VBAA2Z Thanks for the link Pamai! I really appreciate it. I tried it and it is giving me all sort of error and I have no idea about how to deal with them. I tried the code with both the document level and application level projects and also with C# Add-in and VisualBasic Add-In but it didn't work in any case. Maybe I am doing it wrong way. Have you showed this technique in any of your videos?
Hello everybody!) Can you help me. I try to insert the image from embedded resources. But i can't do it. Because need path to file as string. But embedded resources not have path. Example: "Globals.ThisDocument.InlineShapes.AddPicture(@"AbsolutePathToFile"); How can i add image from embedded resource to Word? Thank's for anythink answer.
Hello sir. Thanks for your sharing. I can not create a project. It showed me a messagebox " No such interface supported" . Could you help me solve this problem? Thanks
For this issue, you repair your VS first. 1. Go to Control Panel >Programs >Programs and Features 2. Select Microsoft Visual Studio * and click on 'repair'.
@@VBAA2Z I think now I know it, Add-Ins need to be installed and are not file linked, while Workbook Solutions are stick to the file and don't require Add-in installation. This was my question, about the need of Add-in installation when you share an Excel file with other people in other computers. My intention is a file that works by itself that doesn't require Add-in installation when shared.
Suddenly my ribbon on any new projects that i start, isn't showing up. I get the ThisAddIn_Startup() event to load but not the Ribbon_Load(). I have already deactivated and reactivated addin on outlook. I've also tried starting a project on Excel and added a ribbon. Still not showing up... something suddenly started preventing ribbons to display on the VSTO projects... What i have searched on the web still got me to no solution. Any help? Thanks in advance
Return New ExcelMenuVSTO() End Function My problem is that the added VBA code for the “button id” does not run. Is this so because VBA code cannot run in a VSTO project, or am I just missing something to get it running?
@@srenpetersen7971 email id can be located in the video description. VSTO does not use VBA however VB.NET is very similar to VBA so you shouldn't find issues following the videos.
@@VBAA2Z Are there any ways to create installation file for excel-dna built project like VSTO? I'd stuck with the distribution projects to end-user. VSTO is extremely useful in this, but I can't creat UDF 😂😂😂
