I had the Vstrom for a test, the outside temperature was 30 and I also noticed that it gets warm, but it heats up very much during strong acceleration and fast driving, I had to spread my legs because it was hot, after an hour of intense driving I was tired because all the heat goes up. I came to the dealer on a different bike and there was no problem. Please comment on my experiences and do a test with dynamic driving.
So you mean that you switched for another 800 on the way back and there was no problem? For dynamic riding and high acceleration I have already done this and as long as you are moving fast, there is no issue at all. Thanks for sharing your comment. I wait for your answer on the switching of the bikes.
@@DrVstrom I came on a Honda and I tested the Suzuki, driving like you show on film is not a problem, try it dynamically, starting quickly from the lights, driving at 140, etc., maybe your Suzuki has a not run-in engine and you can't, I tested the Suzuki after running in and above 1.5 thousand km and I could drive dynamically, there is a problem and it discouraged me from buying it, I would like to be wrong
Many modern bikes have the same right side high temperature : Aprilia Touareg, KTM 890 Adventure... Moto Guzzi , as I remember was not so hot.. But VStrom 650 has not this hot at all❤
I have 2006 v strom 650 ( with oil radiator) and I don’t know , are radiator fan work or no) I think oil radiator solves the issue with temperature. But Euro5 harms this …

Ride safe.
Thank you for the video. You did a lot of work. I am still thinking about my next motorcycle. 800DE is amazing modal but there are three things I would like to have on it 1 - tubeless tyrea 2 - 18 inch rear whell 3 - cruise control Tubeless tyres is number one priority.
Thank you. I have information for you. 1. There are spoke wheels tubeless for the DE 2. No info on that 3. There is a cruise control solution that clips in the factory wires and works with 3 buttons
This is then an unrealistic comment then my friend. The test was performed in a "calm" riding way, within the city limits because this motorcycle is not only for touring purposes but many like me will want to daily commute. Thus said, because inside the city there are speed limits, pedestrians, etc, one can only drive calm. When tests are made in general, you always test the bad scenarios and difficult conditions, which in this case are when you ride calm and not enough air passes through the radiator to see how the motorcycle manages to cope. No one cares for vanilla situations which are easy. Inside the city therefore is where the heat is evident so there is no point to do the test elsewhere. In the video, I also clearly state at the end, that there is no issue when you ride on highways or outside city limits. It is easy to criticize but I never said I dont like this motorcycle but rather the opposite. In fact I dont consider this to be a problem at all. Next time you comment something, make it realistic and use proper communication by greeting also. Dont forget, I m not working for you and I m not getting paid for my contributions. I do everything on my spare time to give back to the community of Vstromers. Ride safe.
Sounds like you need a Triumph or an Aprilia. Although not sure why an 18" wheel is a priority for you. This bike is too heavy for anything where you would notice a difference.
@@DrVstrom It seems a bit stretched to me to think that a cheap parallel twin could represent an improvement over the last revision of the 650 V-twin... doesn't it? Sorry, just asking. Bye!
Yes but the engine is smaller capacity and the euro requirements (although euro 5) slightly different. Its not a problem actually. Thanks for your comment.
Well-executed study! I’ve felt high temps even at motorway speeds and if it weren’t for my boots(Alpinestars Andes V2; highly recommended) I’d worry a bit about the potential for indirect burns to occur; I think this is a ticking legal bomb for Suzuki if they don’t figure out a solution. Must love Euro 5, though!
Ok for this test. I rode the 800de a few times from the dealer in Sofia. Mainly city rides and it is higher in temperature. The fan does it's job efficiently and you can notice it by the dash and the feeling on the right leg. Maybe the higher temp. Is because of the different compresion ratio, compared to the 650 wee. But hey it is a brand new engine and it is different. Maybe someone with GSX 8S /R can share more info on that heat topic? Ride safe!
Excellent information, im considering getting one to replace the big strom I had, loving my interceptor still, but also missing the touring aspect of biking.
Glad to help. Thanks :) This is a great motorcycle and very friendly to climb on it as it is also lower and more compact. The engine, brakes and suspension are top.
Thodori, The RE version comes naked. However, I bought and have the plastic on right now and also in a later video will test a metal one. As to do it again, is that an order or a kind request?

The heating is a huge problem on vstrom 800, you rode throught the city, you didn't stop to any traffic lights. Try through a crowded city and you'll see how hot the air is. And on the highway, I'd tried 130-140 km/h for a few minutes and it was impossible to rode it like that. The temparature outside was 29 degrees Celsius. On my Ducati Scrambler I don't have these issues at all.
You are wrong, I made 570 kms non stop on highway speeds at 39 degrees temperatures. Its not in the video but I did mention, it was fine on the highways. Well it is fine on highways and regarding the traffic lights, when you stop the temp rises and I did mention that as well. I m not Suzuki, I m just sharing my experience. There is an issue but not huge and especially on highways its ok. I also state in the video that with time I will revisit the subject after the engine properly breaks in.
@@DrVstrom Riding the motorcycle at 130-140 km/h was unbearable, I couldn't do it for more than a few minutes. I'm not talking about how hot it was, it was unbearable. I have a Suzuki V-Strom 800 Tech and I'm looking for solutions, because I can't really ride it. In the city it can be ok, it depends on how crowded it is. I haven't had another Euro 5, I think my Ducati is Euro 3 or 4. Maybe the problem is because I don't have 1000 km yet. I heard that someone from Portugal wants to sell it and buy a Honda Transalp, because it doesn't heat up.
Hello, I understand but hear me out. I have ridden this motorcycle for around 570 straight kms 4 times and my speed was between 140 to 160. The most remarkable thing was the temperature. There was a heat wave in 2 of those days of temperatures at least of 39 degrees shown on the dashboard Yet It was ok on the highway. I am working on a solution and will probably suggest something in the near future.
@@DrVstrom hope you'l find some solution for this.. I've one re and it's hot, but i don't think it is so hot has my old 1290...for me isn't a big issue...
Hello! It's exactly the same thing on my 3 years old Yamaha Tracer 9. The engine temperature rises over 100°C when riding slow and fan kicks in. It's such a petty for this new motorcycles because high temperature is very bag for the life of the engine. Thank you for your instructional video.
All these new Euro 5 motorcycles are running lean (a mixture of more air intake on certain rpm) in order to comply with the all those standards that are supposed to save the planet... Ha,ha! More air means more Oxygen which translate into a greater explosion on the engine. Hence the higher temperatures of the engine. I really don't understand why those qualified engineers set the fan to kick in at about 100-105°C instead of, let's say, 90-95°C. Because of the higher temperatures, the engine parts are part of the greater stress due to extreme expansions (dilatations) and that translates into a lower lifespan of an engine. Most of us prefer a second hand car with a 200000 km on board (taken on highways) instead of an 100000 km car done on heavy tragic ( on city).
@@danapintilioaiei6587 Those 100-105 degrees is not your engine temperature, that's the water temperature. Oil temperature would be a far more accurate parameter. Water temperature doesn't say much at all, because it's highly dampened, while the engine temperature is volatile.
Interesting video, thank you. I have a question that has nothing to do with temperature. I'm looking to buy a motorcycle soon and choice fell on the V strom, but I'm in dilemma between 650 and 1000. I've read on various forums and was surprised that some people wrote that the 650 is better than the 1000, which makes no sense to me. I'd like to know what you think about these two models. I'm talking about the 3rd generation, 2017 plus. I'd use the motocycle 50% on the highway to 50% local roads. I've never seen anyone who knows about motorcycles in such detail. All respect
Thank you for your comment. Ok so the 650 3rd generation is a fantastic, can do all motorcycle. Its biggest advantage is the economy/range it can get while at the same time being able to move fast on the highway as well as inside cities. In other words, its low consumption, with enough power to feel safe on highways as well as while overtaking. It also is great at road handling when turning and riding fast and its maintenance is cheap with a bulletproof engine. Compared to larger vstroms it lacks some of this premium feel with older technology and features. The 1000, I dont know if you are referring to 1050 or the old 1000 but these are larger motorcycles with higher consumption and a lot heavier. They are not so good for city centers but more oriented in traveling. The golden choice would be the vstrom 800. Hope this info helps.
I have no personal experience with the motorbikes you mentioned but I am chosing between the same two models and I have read a lot of forums/ saw a few videos. People say that if money allow for it then go for a larger bike (DL 1000). Significantly better brakes and suspension are worth it. If you do not go off road then the weight is manageable. More power for some 1 - 1,5 l/100 km higher consumption. Good luck! Here is a guy who went from 650 to 1000 and compares the two bikes ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t12d6AyIefY.html
So you switched sensor to the right leg to see what the temperature will be on the motorway and we did not hear any number. How much was it? Thank you :-)
No, you missed something. Temperature in city going slow is 50-52 on the right leg front, 46-47 left leg and right on the back. On the highway you dont feel anything cause the engine temperature is 85 C and the fan will not kick in, plus there is plenty of air both for the radiator and your legs
@@DrVstrom I was referring to 10:07 when you said you will change the sensor one last time to the right leg to show what the temperature is outside of the city (on highway). And we were never shown the number! :) However your explanation in the comment is sufficient and I appreciate it. Good luck!
Here is your number ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wYId_QQ1MZ4.html . Its the same way outside the city in the begining. I say its fine 2 times and you should not worry as its always much less than what it is in the city. There is plenty of air flowing through the radiator.
