Covers off the basics VT HSV Senator Series I. The last HSV Senator to use HOLDEN’s, locally made and designed V8 5L before HOLDEN’s replacement using the GEN 3 LS1 for the Series II in Mid 1999.
Senators came standard with all Calais standard features plus special perforated HSV leather trim, with the optional premium seats (Colusons). Cloth trim was a no cost delete option.
VT Senator also came standard with and auto dimming rear vision mirror which ran on the later WH Caprice until the VZ in 2006. This feature was deleted for VE onwards.
Mechanical options were as follows:
-Optional 220i Stroker motor
-Large diameter HSV Harrop Brakes
-6 Speed Manual

Final development to engine using roller cam and serpentine belts really smoothed out power delivery. Was robust and reliable engine.

It really did make it smoother even though all the injected 5litres were pretty smooth for their time. Great cruisers

@@GTZ05 It's a shame the last 5.O V8 went to MAF sensor. Even though they had a little more power,they always felt boggy and slower than the 5.O V8 with MAP sensor. The 195i really was underpowered for the weight of the VTs.

Sounds crispy as mate. Beautiful car. I had a 2000 S3 maloo with the roller motor. It came new with the vt hsv steering wheel but have seen other vs maloos with standard holden emblem. I love those rims, i had them on my VX R8. Very classy rim. Did the senator come with the cup holders or was there a flip up lid with the build number my vx had the pop up center consol.( Edit. Should have finished watching the video before asking questions. )

Thanks mate.. the series 3 Maloos or at least the late ones did have the HSV emblem in the steering wheel, pretty cool if you ask me being the only VS to get that.. I would love a 195i VS Maloo.. I also love the VX HSV model, great body kit on them also..

The VT was the best styled Holden since the HQ coupe.

Was a top shape that’s for sure… much more liked than the AU Falcon
@liamgross7217
@liamgross7217 4 месяца назад
@@GTZ05 the AU was awful, the tickford kits helped. But then with a few tweaks to the body the BA XRs looked really good. Actually I reckon were the rear spoiler saved the AU, the VT rounded boot continued the nice line off the roof, they look good with the body kit minus the rear spoiler.

Holden 5l sounds tuff but they’re slow asf especially in a heavy ass vt and no where near as powerful or rubust as an ls, switching to ls motors was the best thing holden ever did
@GTZ05
@GTZ05 4 месяца назад
They are def not fast that’s for sure. I’ve owned multiple of both, but my personal experience is the opposite had many more problems with my LS motors than the 5L but the LS moves.
@gavinr9107
@gavinr9107 4 месяца назад
It is more so about owning a clean classic and 'analog' car that is a part of Australian motoring history. The LS is a fantastic platform for modifying and engine conversions, however this is the kind of car you take out for a Sunday drive to cruise around and enjoy it for what it is.

I had a 2000 model with what I recall was 250kw (same colour) and it didn't have a sunroof.
@GTZ05
@GTZ05 Месяц назад
Late 99 turned to the LS1 250kw so yours was definitely a 250Kw, for series II like yours, the sunroof was a $1,995 option but standard previously on Series 1.

Extremely misleading. Its not the last of the V8 senators, as my mum has a VE senator, V8. The VTs were the last of the older 90s style V8s before the Gen 3 V8 engine was used.
