Hi. I've had 3 pairs of screw on my lumbar spine since an accident 10 years ago caused me vertebrae collapse. At that time, my surgeon told me that it will not be removed from my body. Recently at my health check, an orthopedic doctor told me that I should have removed the screw after 1 year of the surgery and the sooner the better. Is that true that it should be removed ASAP? Thank you.

no, No need to remove it until , incase the screws gets dislodged by itself from its position or it breaks by itself, then the Doctor see the status of vertebrae that does it need refixation or not. in most cases it does not need refixation but the doctor removes it permanently after it breaks or gets dislodged.
