Also from what I understand Cain has been decleared dead so many times and come back that they just stopped uppdating his status. Even after his funeral where they saw his body they still have him as alive in the records

If I remember correctly this is not quite the case but I have seen a lot of people say this. I listen to the audio books multiple times a year thanks to a boring job and if I remember correctly in an early book like one of the first 3 she makes a comment that Cain was considered dead and listed as such only to show up fine so many times that a standing rule was put into place that he is not to be listed as dead or kia UNTIL he is buried with full honors. Basically saying they will believe he is dead for real when they have documented proof an a lot of it. On a side note I know people will say Cain is dead for real but I am one of the people who (may be on copium) thinks Cain is still alive and has been declared dead by Amberly so he might actually be able to retire. We know he lived into the new millennium by at least a few years since one of his books dealt with the rift after the fall of Cadia. Also we have not gotten the book that talks about his death so until then I hold out hope!
@Smeghead76

@@TheDrunkenPhaeron Oh no - one of Vail's footnotes in _Death or Glory_ - explicitly states that Cain is still listed as being on active duty _despite_ having been buried with full military honours "In fact Cain’s status at this point was still officially ‘killed in action.’ His brief flurry of communication after making orbit should have changed this to ‘missing, believed dead,’ but thanks to the usual bureaucratic inertia of the Administratum this adjustment wasn’t made until shortly after he rejoined his regiment. The ensuing confusion was to take over a year to sort out; after a few more such incidents the munitorium issued standing instructions that he should be kept on the active roster at all times whatever reports they received to the contrary. *(Which accounts for the fact that he’s the only person in the history of the galaxy to still be officially regarded as on active service subsequent to being buried with full military honours.)"*

I don’t think they ever gotten a W without suffering 99% casualties

26:19 it is, the avatar is one of the most powerful things the eldar have, in theory, unfortunately in the lore it gets killed a lot, one was punched to death by chaptermaster marneus calgar, with his fists, the avatars are often used as "oh look he killed this, this guy is a badass". it's become a meme at this point. to learn more about Khaine, pancreas made a vid on him as well

5:50 an ungodly number of things, some of which include: - their allies leaving them do die regularly bc their chapter was created during the "cursed founding" and so other space marines look at them with a lot of suspicion - joining the Astral Claws, the only chapter that ever treated them well, in the Badab War only for the claws to go renegade and then outright fall to chaos. - getting brutalized by the Minotaurs chapter during the Badab War. - getting sent to a penitent crusade for 100 years during which time they are not allowed to replenish any losses they take. - getting lost in the warp for a hot minute and being turbo fucked by the daemons there. - nearly going extinct like 12 times bc they regularly suffer something like 80% casualties chapterwide. - getting turbo murdered by the Tyranids in their heroic defence of Baal with other Blood Angels successors. Lammenters are the punching bag of 40k. When space marines get depressed and start crying that's how you know shit is bad. And the worst part is that they're some of the most compassionate, honorable and dedicated Astartes out there. They regularly suffer huge casualties trying to save civilians. Sanguinius would be proud of them.

Sandy Mitchel has mentioned that he himself doesn't know exactly how selfish or heroic Cain is. So while he is undoubtedly a combination of both, the exact proportion varies from book to book and is open to interpretation.

It's tough because Cain does not give himself enough credit no matter what. In fact it's fair to say it's the biggest tragedy of the books because he is an excellent commander and, if unintentionally, one of the most noble and lawful good characters in the setting.

8:47 Yeah I've always felt Hope's Peak gone the wrong idea about his ultimate ability. It isn't ultimate luck, but ultimate unluck. The only reason he survives is he'd be 'lucky' if reality let him die so easily. 10:30 Something he doesn't point out there is that true asshole commissars often find themselves shot in the back in a shallow grave in 40k. The Catachan Jungle Fighters are famous for their commissars 'going missing' during war and peace times. Hehe.

To mention about the ‘is there a good god of war’ question, look to Greek mythology with Athena, Nike and Ares. Athena is a goddess of wisdom and war who embodies the tactical part of war and is celebrated(and turned a lady into a spider cause she insulted gods with weaving) Nike embodies the epic victories of battles and is celebrated(not much to say but their Cosmosdex counterpart is a dirty memer) While Ares embodies the bloody and brutal aspects of war and is feared(and one of their kids is a freaking dragon soooo… very Khorne like) All are related TO war but all in different ways.

Kaela Mansha Khaine (Khaine, The Bloody Handed God) is the God of War of the Eldar's Pantheon, during the War in Heaven and Age of the Eldar both Eldars and Orks (Kroks) have their own Gods (Old ones created them to help fight the necrons) Isha was the Goddess of life, the anti-thesis to Nurgle, Khaine as the God of War, was the Anti-thesis to Khorne. Durung that age the Eldar Gods are actually superior to their chaos counterparts and kept them at bay. But Khaine did something stupid and killed Eldanesh, essentially Eldar's Emperor of Mankind and was then cursed by Asuryan (The Phoenix King, the Zeus of the Pantheon if you will) to drop blood everywhere, thus the name Kaela Mansha (Bloody Handed). After this the Phoenix King enacted the Asuryan Edict, where the Eldar God's are no longer allowed to interact with the Eldar in any way shape or form as Khaine has demonstrated a lack of respect for their mortal followers. Some gods have ways around this to interact with their Children (The Eldar) like how Isha gave them her Tears, as a powerful artifact. The Eldar, now godless, want to believe and worship something worthwhile and thought that they were betrayed by their Pantheon. They then started the galaxy wide thing that birthed Slannesh. When Slannesh birthed the Eldar Pantheon were very weak due to the Asuryan Edict severely weakening them, thus every Eldar God's essence and domain was consumed by Slannesh and the other Chaos Gods save Isha (Captured By Nurgle), Cegorach (Ran away to the Black Library, outscheming Tzeentch), and Khaine, who tried to fight and was blown into a million pieces. Those million pieces can then be recombined by the Eldar to once again call upon their God Of War, thus the Avatar of Khaine. Can you tell that I LOVE Eldar lore?

Pancreas already gone over the major character differences between Cain and Jurgen to Gotrek and Felix in a different video, but there is a bigger difference between the two series and it's the tone. 40K, Fantasy, and AoS are all grim dark, but the Ciaphas Cain books are, while not all sunshine and rainbows, a more lighter take in the dark Warhammer universes. In Gotrek and Felix books, many times the victories are pyrrhic, thousands dead with few survivors, the bad guy got away (Thanquol, Mannfred, Kemmler), most of the side characters dead or traumatized, etc. There are more than one story where, in the end, the pair are driven out of town by the very people they fought to save. In the Cain books, Cain makes contributions that honestly made the situation better, turning what should have been a suicide mission or total defeat into an impossible win for the Imperium, or at least gets the most amount of people through it alive. Even if some of it involves Inquisitorial business and therefore classified, everyone involved, even the Xenos briefly allied with Cain, acknowledge his efforts in making it all work out even if Cain, in his neurotic Imposter Syndrome, can't see it himself.

26:20 Yeah Avatars of Khaine are actually common, they use "shards" of Khaine (physical/psychic remnants of the actual god)to become an 'avatar" for a period of time, and just like you said they are often just used to show off the power of Space Marines. However ACTUAL Khaine nearly managed to kill Slanesh after she was born and actually wounded her so much no matter what form Slanesh takes today she always has scars left from her fight with Khaine. Khaine is/was legitimately the most powerful being in 40k besides the old ones and only lost due to being brought into the Mortal world where he wasn't as powerful. Khorne also fought Slanesh to claim the shards of Khaine afterwards but neither would be able to claim him. (I would also remind you Khaine fought Slanesh AFTER he killed a bunch of Eldar and was no longer worshipped by the majority of the Eldar. At full strength Khaine would've probably have been able to fight at least 2 of the Chaos gods and had a chance at winning the 1v2).

From what my memory can deduce from the lamenters, their luck is absolutely, profoundly awful. One instance is (iirc) they got in trouble with the Minotaurs, another bunch of space marines who are not known to be the nicest space marines, all because the lamenters accidentally associated themselves with traitorous marines (again my memory’s dodgy so I might’ve got something wrong). It’s so bad their dreadnought believes he’s the only remaining lamenter left.

Cain one time had to execute a couple of people that shot at him, granted, they didn't even know he was a Commissar, and there were extenuating circumstances, but at the end of the day he had to shoot someone, and he shot them, he didn't want to do it, he lived the rest of his life with their names and images oftentimes coming to his mind. Still he did it up because he was a Commissar, and being a Commissar meant he had an image and a standard to uphold, and not executing people who shot Commissars, accident or not, would tarnish their reputation as enforcers of the Imperium if they were not made an example of. A lot of things Cain did he did so because he was a Commissar, and he did his best to uphold that image, his head was at almost all times, thinking about people he was forced to execute, people who followed him to their deaths, and those he sent to their deaths for the sake of maintaining that image, which he didn't do out of stupidity, he truly believed in everything the Commissars were about, and hated himself for not being as fearless or ruthless as they were supposed to be.

Actually the reason why Avatars of Khaine, despite being shards of a literal God, are trounced on in lore is because no one hates the Eldar as much as GW does. It seriously feels like Black Library sometimes gets a collective boner whenever the Eldar get trounced on. Much like with the Matt Ward era of Ultramarines though, they've bounced back on that and the Eldar are treated more fairly as of recent, I'm pretty sure.

@justinisp9361

While I don't know all that much for 40k lore, I do that the Lamenters are basically among the very best legions in all the Space Marine legions. They are also, like the Salamanders, one of the legions with the highest death rates. Although, for them, it's because they just keep getting the sh*t end of the deal when it comes to campaigns and such, whereas the Sallies willingly plunge into hellholes to save the lives of those around them. Lamenters are, one and all, heroes, but they're also a kind of pariah to the other legions as well. Also, and I cold be wrong about this, but they are one of the sub factions for the Blood Angels so they got that whole tragic backstory of the Black Rage, the Blood Thirst and their Dad, the Primarch Sanguinius, being dead, by Horus

Marnius Calgare, chapter master of the ultramarines, punched an avatar to death, Primarch Fulgrim killed one by strangling it, yes he strangled a dtatue to death, oke was killed by Lorgar which is embarrasing because Lorgar is by far the weakest primarch in combat, one was shot to pieces in an episode of Bolter and Hammer, etc etc. Yeah the avatar of Khaine gets punked on alot
