Event Horizon is sometimes jokingly referred to as a 40K prequel. In 40k FTL travel is done via going through "The Warp" a psionically charged realm that is basically just supposed to hold souls but all the fuckery in 40Ks history (long before humanity) caused it to become twisted and malevolent. The ships use something called a "Gellar Field" to keep (the worst of) the bad stuff out. The Event Horison didn't have such a field and what happened there is a mild (for the ship) to moderate (for the crew) level of shit that happens when you go through the warp without the field.

In this the Astartes are fighting a rebellious human faction, usually called a 'heresy' given the hyper religious aspect of the culture. The gun they're using is called a Bolter. It fires what are essentially rocket propelled explosive rounds the size of a Red Bull. This is why single hits can tear the enemies in half. You can see the business portion of the bolter rounds as they get stopped by the shields of the two giant spine guys (called psykers). I'm pretty sure the hidden sniper guy was also using a type of Bolter, but it takes multiple on target shots to breach space marine armor. The space marine was able to not really sneak up on the spine guys, but they were focused on attacking the one they already had trapped and were rather distracted. Space marines are genetically and surgically enhanced humans. Two hearts, three lungs, 8+ feet tall weighing in at nearly half a ton each. Their strength and durability are legendary. However, it wasn't his eye that popped. Just the covering over the cameras in that eye of the helmet. Yeah, the Imperium of Man is deeply religious. The red robe guy was an Inquisitor, many of whom are space marine equivalent of psykers, and his job was to keep tabs on the eldritch beach balls. Him warning the officer about the threat to the troops on the other ship ended up causing his own possession, and thus his immediate death by execution. Also they all were talking (we can hear the Inquisitor's muffled voice) it's just not audible through the helmets (and because this was a one man project and he kept vocals to a minimum). The two eldritch beach balls were talking about how they and others like them had failed in their mission. The one on the enemy ship was then told to basically suicide and take the space marines with it. Once it had, however it got hit with essentially an interdimensional riptide and died. The backlash of it dying sent the space marines to the planet they're on at the end. The one inconsistency I've ever been able to spot in this is Red Eye's severed arm. In two shots (when it's severed and on the planet) it's an above the elbow amputation. When it's shown while in The Warp (the in universe name of... well, yeah essentially the 'hell' from Event Horizon) it's shown severed below the elbow. Event Horizon's aesthetic is so in tune with Warhammer 40k that many consider it to be an unintended unofficial prequel to that universe. Red Eye vomited blood and bile, which is why it was bubbly. His eye studs mark his time in service. A space marine gets one for ever full century of service, so Red Eye had been active duty for over three hundred years. They can take their armor off. They're not sealed in. The place Red Eye was in at the end was a necropolis, so the giants didn't all die at once. It's hypothesized that the bipedal upright form might be evolutionary advantageous in sapient life given its balance of function and energy efficiency. I haven't read too deeply into it, however.

Holy Moly! Thank you for all the detail and info! The level of detail that went over my head is amazing, the creator put a lot of work into this and I can appreciate it more with this extra info. And i now find it funny that the balls were speaking to each other and one told the other to just kill itself to take out the marines, but also bad ass!

Ill explain a bit for you: The Angry Balls are relics of a long dead alien civilization. There are three of them in this video. Two on the Astartes ship, you can see a second one in the shadows behind the first one. And one on the rebels ship. The Inquisition (the dude in the red cape) together with this Astartes chapter is hunting these Alien relics because they are corrupting humans and are forcing them to build bodies for them. In their current form they have only limited influence on the material realm. When the angry ball on the rebel ship is trying to keep the Astartes away it is not only pushing against them, it is also attempting to corrupt them (you can hear the whispering with each attack) but the Astartes are nearly immune to such attacks. You can then see the Inquisitor listening in when the two Angry Balls start communicating with each other and the conversation goes as follows: Angry Ball 1 (with the Inquisitor): "Who is there?" Angry Ball 2: "I have failed, brother." Angry Ball 1: "We have all failed.The Astartes defy our touch." Angry Ball 2: "We must return." Angry Ball 1: "Break your shield (or seal?)." Angry Ball 2: "Impossible. We'll never survive." Angry Ball 1: "You must take them (the Astartes)!" The Inquisitor then says: "Recall them immediately!" to the captain so they can save the Astartes. Unfortunately the Angry Ball uses this momentary loss of focus to attack the Inquisitor and take over his body. Of course the Astartes officers know what to do and completely destroy the Inquisitors body to keep the Angry Ball from going on a rampage in its newly acquired body. You can see that the Astartes get the order to retreat but the other Angry Ball instantly grabs them and pulls them into the warp. In the warp it gets killed by something else and the Astartes all suddenly appear on what i guess is the long dead aliens homeworld. You can see flashes on the other pillars showing that the rest of the squad has suddenly popped back into existence too.

13:23 Funny that you should mention the Event Horizon movie. There are fan theories and such that the movie is part of the Warhammer universe when humanity first traveled to the Warp. This is from the creators reddit page The ball dialogue "...no escape. I have failed brother." 'We have all failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return, break your seal." "Impossible, (I) will never survive." "You must! Take them!" Edit: The backpack is a power generator for the power armor. Starship Troopers the book might have been the first to do power armor so they are the first space marines. Space Marines aren't really considered to be humans, but they go through extensive genetic and psychological altering that they are nothing alike. They guy in the red robes is an inquisitor, pretty much a detective with the power to decide the fate of worlds. Many of your observations were either on point or pretty close, also the remarks about Event Horizon were golden, as many Warhammer fans see it as an unoficiall prequel, with all that other hellish dimension used for travel and stuff. Also the remark about a pentagram was another unexpected direct hit of sorts, because 5 is i think a sacred number for the Imperium (cant quote, i just know i´ve heard it a few times)... and yeah, the Imperium is deeply religious and superstitious, most loyal space marine chapters dislike the dietification of the Emperor, but everybody else sees him as a god, meanwhile, the Mechanicus worship their machine god and pray/chant to every machine, little or small, to either while fixing it or keep it going. Space marines are on average 8-9 feet tall, and are solidly built. They're genetically engineered superhumans that are conditioned to be more like weapons of war then people. I'm working off old lore, so they might've changed the details, but what the space marines are firing are .75 caliber explosive rounds. .75 caliber is around the size of 12 gauge shotgun shells. These space marines are slighty resistant to "psychic" bs, and I say "slightly", because the gold mask duo that got put down are low level. Probly level 5/ delta tier psykers. Most space marines are heavier then their armor. The directer for Event Horizon is a 40k fan and definitely "drew inspiration" from the franchise, the movie basically depicting what the first warp capable ships had to deal with before humanity developed the Gellar field generator that shields against the taint of the Warp/hell. Both master chief and and space marines can take off their power armor, it's usually for ceremonial purposes tho for space marines, as they're usually constantly in combat. Depending on chapter, of course
@Lotan_

It's funny you should mention Event Horizon, because 40K was one of the influences for that film. It's seen by 40K fans as a unofficial prequel to the setting, where humanity finds out what happens when they are exposed to the Warp without protection. In 40K human ships travel faster than light by going through the Warp, and the Gellar Fields are what stop Event Horizon from happening when they do, though occassionally the shields do fail. The Warp itself, the dimension the ball pulled them into, is pretty much Hell, and where those Eldritch gods live. A realm where all your worst instincts and emotions become literal devils. In 40K the phrase "everyone has their demons" is not just a metaphor. As a matter of fact, you can see one of said Warp entities in the bottom right corner (behind your avatar haha) at 17:45, coming to investigate the psykic disturbances.

A few tidbits to answer some of your questions: Astartes start out as regular humans who through certain methods (these can difer based on the space marine chapter) get selected often as early as 10-12 years old. After that they get separated rom their relatives and start intensive physical and mental training for years. During those trainings they also go through extra organ implants (like a second heart or third lung just to name a few) and genetic modification which elevates them to a superhuman level. This training / medical regimen is so brutal in fact that many of the trainees outright die from it. For their equipment yes their armor is removable, however they only really remove it i they will be out of combat for extended periods of times as suiting up a spacemarine is like a religious ceremony (I think there is an ofical GW video showing it). The weapons they use are called boltguns and they fire 75 caliber (basically a redbull can sized) rocket propelled ammunition that explodes after impact (hence the guy shot in two). The other weapon used against the multi laser gun was a plasma pistol and it is pretty much as the name suggests fires superheated plasma, but have the downside of easily overheating (and potentially exploding if misused or not maintained properly). The backpacks on their backs are part of the enviromental system of their suit, but there are space marine armor compatible jetpacks (or jumppacks as they are called in universe) that can attach to their armor allowing them short term flight.

The company basically said "you can come with us and give us all rights to the most successful Warhammer 40k media to date, or we're gonna hit you with a cease and desist order and take it down anyway." Like, yeah dude got a job out of it. But the creativity he put into this independent series is beyond the scope of anything officially put out by the company. The story, the animation, the shot continuity (you can track the movements of each Astartes, no one in this series "teleports" from one scene to the next). Now he has to animate and write what a bunch of businessmen tell him to, and his work is often muddied by others on the team who aren't quite on his level. Overall its a sad thing
