This is really good, Ivan. I especially appreciate your explanation of the theory behind the line. I had worked a bit on this song earlier and hadn't seen the triads outlining the larger triad. Kind of an "ah ha!" moment for me. This kind of tutorial is so valuable. Please do more like this.

Great video Ivan! Amazing chord tone-centric bassline here. And of course the ghost notes adds to the groove. Dart is the man🔥🔥

Killer bass line, indeed! :) Yeah, those ghost notes also add some flavor

Great video! I hit the subscribe button hard as soon as I realize you are giving an analysis/tutorial of my favourite bassline instead of a simple cover. I am having trouble with the scaling-up disco octaves part when I try to speed up my playing by alternate picking. Gonna give your tips of "index-index-mid" a try and practice more. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for subscribing, Frank! I appreciate it! I also did a cover of the song and got some requests about a tutorial, so here it is 😁 I’m glad that you found it helpful! Don’t hesitate to ask if you’ve got any questions or requests 🙏🏽

Best thing for me was the tip on string skipping using 2 index in a row - good stuff!

I pretty much figured this out by ear very soon after I found the stems of the piece on bandcamp (thank you Vulfpeck!!). The "Disco notes" are the hardest part for me. Not in this song, in every disco "double octave pickings" song. I try using alternating pickings as this reduces the necessity for speed from the index finger but as you said yourself it creates other problems and the whole wrist needs to rock left and right and finger placement accuracy suffers. I kind of manage it on "YMCA" but this still eludes me.

Yeah, those disco octaves are definitely tricky 😱 I’ve seen people play them with the thumb for the lower notes and then index/middle for the octaves

Nice. I had to experiment with the right hand fingering until I worked out that the best way was to use the index finger except for the last 16th

Thanks, you've chosen a very good groove for a lesson about triads. Could you do the same for Jamerson lines?
