This was my first Vulf show. Tremendous. I'm so happy for their ensuing success, and they still put on a killer show. But it was fun seeing them in a tiny place.
Thanks for the uploads! I saw you setting up the camera and I got a little giddy hoping this would be up on youtube eventually, but this is quite the turnaround! Props! Also, thanks for including the audio links, this sounds fucking fantastic! Just out of curiosity what sort of mic(s) did you use for the audio or did it come from the SBD? I brought a little ZoomH2 mic and recorded both sets, and while I think it sounds solid, your recording is phenomenal. Thanks again!
Shreddy Lacy thank you! I'm glad I'm not the only one who appreciates good sound quality... The Tonic Room is small enough to be able to get good sound without a feed from the soundboard...sometimes in a very small room a soundboard isn't an even mix...they just use the PA to fill in whats lacking (i.e. if Dart's bass amp is loud enough for the room without any assistance, the sbd feed will be extremely lacking in the bass department) I had an Edirol R09-HR on the window sill aimed through the drum set at the guitar/bass amps (this is where the beefy drum sound and bass/low end comes from). I had a Tascam iM2 mounted directly above the camera (contour roam2 in 1080p) and had a Zoom iQ5 (mid/side setting) in my shirt pocket pointed at the amps as i raged the front. My mixing efforts were minimal...I just combined each individual track source and balanced the levels out in audacity.
***** thanks for the explanation. it all turned out great. I ended up holding my mic in my hand as I posted up near the bar, but I think having the Zoom set to low mic gain ended up working against me as my recording is just a bit quiet and not as crisp as I'd like. But I do love recording in the smaller rooms like Tonic. It will be interesting to see these guys at the Subterranean and Beat Kitchen in August!
