Thanks Mike very helpful. I run a stock breather and resisted the temptation to go for a "bling" alloy filler. Always been curious about those tower-style breathers though so thanks for covering this.

Good stuff. That’s what makes VW’s fun. Trial and error!

Hey Mike ! If it cools off enough , I'm going to change my rods because I bought a rebuild kit that the rods they gave me 2 were 311 VW rods and the other 2 were ? no marks no nadda . They did weigh close enough .I got a set of EMPI 8330 1711 rods for 119 $ and got some clevite bearings . I am considering new mains but my oil pressure is 55 hot and cold 70 ? it has calm down a lot now it has 15k on it . Then I am going to take the .040 cyl shims off , to much barrel fire . My end play is ? but when I assembled it was to tight at 0.0025 I couldn't do nothing about what stack I had with out ordering and waiting for them . Now to the subject of the day . H-ll yeah it leaks at the front pulley . down here if you don't travel with the flow ???????Rambus in a no wind condition can go 93 with some more on the pedal .

Hey Mike can you do a 2110 build video. I am Debating on CB performance, motor or a Gen berg motor
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 3 месяца назад
I was thinking about doing a 2180 build. Because it is more recognized. They are just as good now. you use 92 thick wall cylinders which are just as bulletproof as the 90.5. The old 2110 is the old way the new way is 2180. And also everyone thinks a 2180 is a weak engine. Because they dont know the latest stuff. Back in the early days we did 2110 because they only had thin wall 92s the thick wall ones use 94 heads but still go in the 90.5 case. Another way to build 2110 is a 78.4 crank with I forget what cylinders. But guys do that too. My buddy is building one of those and there is a video coming up on that fairly soon. Next couple months. Most 2110 is 82 x 90.5. 2180 is 82 x 92. both pretty bulletproof.

Hi Mike, I am also interested in a 2110 build. Or a 2180. Anything as long as it is a 82mm crank. Especially interested in component selection. BTW, kudos from Illinois.

Hello Mike, How can I contact you for just some questions? I have a 68 bug and an engine that was built years ago by a local builder Bear Machine in National City Ca. Unfortunately they’re not around anymore. It’s a 1641(?) with a 110 cam single port ($$ at the time) and dual carbs. Oh and a 009 dis. After driving for awhile the car will not start and has to cool down. It also sprays oil as your describing in this video. My son wants to get it going again but it may be beyond my knowledge. I have no problem working on it but would like to know best place to start. I also have a channel but have very little VW content. Really would like to talk.. Great video and thanks for sharing.

check the facebook I try to answer questions there when I have time. Mike Fn Garage facebook. thanks I will see what I can do. Probably Vapor locking but hard to determine that.

Hi Willy. Mike is the guru so definitely get his advice, however I too have a 68 bug, 1600, single port, W100 cam (not 110) and 009 but with a single SU carb (yeah i know, I like to be different). I had the no-start issue on hot engine when I first got the car before I rebuilt the motor and I put it down to ignition timing (too far advanced) causing the engine to run hot, and there were some cooling tin items missing. Most charts say 7 degrees static timing BUT some 1500-1600 motors have 0 degrees static timing! Mike could be onto it with vapor-lock too. As for oil spray, depending on where its coming from it could be the main oil seal? I also found that although the car had a stock filler/vent setup the upper breather tube just had a small filter on it, and the system really needs a hose going to an air cleaner that gives some "suck' or negative pressure to extract the crankcase fumes and relieve pressure. Dunno if any of this helps but that's my experience as a fellow 68 single port owner.

Could excess blowby past the pistons/rings be an issure resulting in breather system overload regardless of engine size? How about excess cylinder heat? The compression is decent but should I do a leakdown test to find out? Asking for a friend...it's a 1960 indigo blue bug.
@Mikefngarage
@Mikefngarage 3 месяца назад
all possible. Usually start with tire sizes and gear ratios. see how many RPM are at cruise speed. too many RPM and they start to blow oil.

Hi Mike The only source is ring blow-by. And rings leak 4% Sooo .. would the total seal ring at 2% blow-by (half the blow-by) be a good idea ? Any experience with total seal ring Mike ? Thanks
