Just wanted to say a MASSIVE thank you for the tip with the lugs on the hot side removal. I could see the 10mm nuts rounding off and knew it was going to be a nightmare. But as soon as I got a flat-blade chisel and small hammer... some lugs took a few more taps than others, but amazing... as soon as it moved that couple of mm, the 10mm nut just spins right off. Coudn't believe it. Thanks again SO much - you have really saved me a lot of time and money my friend...
Austin could possibly redo this video over with a complete k03 and go more in-depth on marking turbo for reinstall and over all rebuild procedure, please and thank you
I've bought 3 turbos so far that were supposed to be in good shape but all needed attention and unfortunately I got fired from my job for sandblasting some parts on my turbo on my lunch break witch is why I wasn't able to make it .also if you happen to have one there you can rebuild for me I'd be more then happy to pay you for one you can send to me poor mk4 has grass growing arround it lol
Do you need to torque the bolts with the ears holding the turbine cartridge to the compressor housing and turbine housing? If so what are the torque specifications?
Is it ok that oe k03/04 bearing have thread pattern on inside surface (to repulse oil from going in to exhaust side), but aftermarket is flat surface inside?
Hey Austin I was supposed to come see you today to get my ko3 rebuilt .your almost 4 hours away from me .hopefully I'll be able to get up there soon .my cars be down for months now and this is the only thing stopping me it sucks bad .and possibly idk if there's a simple upgrade to the stock ko3 you can do to get a lil more performance.
+Zane Massie if you want to do an upgrade I wouldn't be able to get to it until next week. I need to see if I have the stock turbine your turbo needs one
Hi I have and Audi S4 biturbo. It has a ko3 turbos fitted and one has a rattling actuator rod. Are all ko3 ko4 CHRAs the same? Can I upgrade the turbos with the standard compressor and turbine housings. How do you set the actuator and can I get upgraded ones.
Im guessing he wanted to use an external wastegate and a noisey blowoff valve. I highly doubt he sealed the internal and just ran it. It would obviously run terrible

All I want is just to fix my Jetta's turbo, I know it is what is called the K03S version, and I've just noticed your kit is offered for both turbos (not sure if you are talking about the K04-001 turbo, or all the K04's types but), my question is: is this kit sutable for K03 and K04 turbos despite the fact that their compressor have different sizes?, is it that the internal componentes (specially the ones that come with your kit) are exactly the same?, thanks a lot for your possible reply, have a good day.
The kit works for both k03 and ko4, there are 2 different journal bearings single feed and dual feed. We used the dual feed in all of them and have been for a long time but the bearings are supposed to match the bearing housing

Did you machine the compressor housing or will your billet wheel fit OEM ko3 housing? Are you billet wheels for the KKK sold with rebuild kits? Also are the billet wheels rotor balanced so that they can be installed on a used turbine shaft? I plan to purchase your rebuild kit for my DD passat 1.8t I like the idea behind the upgraded thrust bearing but I would like to upgrade compressor wheel so I can keep shaft speed lower than what I've been running with my custom mapping. Make it a bit more peppy but also a bit more reliable.
so was that a ko3s housing or a ko4 that you had there? How much could a kit cost me just to turn my ko3s into Ko4 and will it still all fit to my standard fittings? I'm aware I need supporting mods ect.. I can fit the kit myself I'm a mechanic so shouldn't have a problem. cost of item and shipping to uk? thanks for the upload, great video with good content
Sand blast. If you don't have access to a sand/media blasting cabinet. You can go to harbor freight and get a little handheld one and 5 lbs of media for like $25.. or pay a machine shop to do it for you. If you don't wanna do either. Hit it with some 400 grit 3m sandpaper. Just sand it evenly.
You need disconnect ignition system if it is a petrol engine or disconnect injection pump if it is diesel engine and crank the engine around 30 seconds to 1 minute. If it is possible, remove spark plugs or heatters for no compression. So, the oil will be pumped to turbo and it will not run dry. Then reconnect all and start normally. I hope you had installed synthetic oil.
thanks, i already put it back on, and luckly my friend who helped me knew this procedure, we removed the spark plugs, and fake start it for about a minute, after that we reconected and started, got everything working, yes im using 100% synthetic, its 5w40 for this engine in my country. thanks again bro
Yes, the bronze main bearing turns on the housing also, and both housing and bearing suffers wearing. If you can take the central bearing bore measure with an inner micrometer in different places you will remark that is not a longer perfect bore . It has deformed. You need to slighly machining the bore to the next upper measure and machine a new bronze bearing for the new bore. In this way the turbo repairing will hold out more time. Regards from Mexico.
+Miike Garcia the ko4 ko3 turbos have a stationary bearing so shafts play is different than other turbos. The ko3 ko4 turbos feel like that have a lot of play from factory but it's normal if it's not touching the housings.
