I, along with my youngest Son, have benign essential tremor syndrome. I deeply admire that you simply don't care and keep on producing very helpful videos!!! It's really a non-factor for most jobs and tasks, and I find you inspiring. Independent of this observation, this video was more helpful than any others I found out there! Thank you, good Sir!!!

Thank you very much I truly appreciate the kind words. It can be very frustrating I’ve been dealing with it since I was a child. So it sometimes is quite embarrassing. But I refuse to not do what I enjoy. So I continue to film and do the best I can. Thank you so much for being here, and I’m sorry to hear about your family dealing with it also. It can be frustrating.

@@SladesVWBeetle I bought the pliers. Work like a charm. I made a weird discovery...When I had put in the master cylinder 20+ years ago, I left those plugs in it (are those supposed to be for bench bleeding?), and actually plugged the lines into those! You are amazing and your videos are beyond helpful I appreciate your time and effort and it goes a long way. I had a question didn't the original brake master cylinder have 3 switches connected and the new one has 2 ?? I'm currently lost lol
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 2 года назад
Thank you Matthew for the kind words I truly appreciate that. And congratulations on your 69 bug, they are very fine cars. I’m going to give you a link to my newer video, on the master cylinder and you will see exactly what you asked. My 68 has three switches on it, they are two prong each. The middle switch is to control the light on the dash. It’s a warning light. So when you lose your brakes, it tells you you lost your brakes by lighting up. I think you would know that when your foot goes to the floor. 🤦🏼‍♂️ Anyhow, a new master cylinder I bought, only has two ports, for two switches. And I’m going to put switches in those two of course. But I’m not going to run the middle plug that came off in the video it shows me marking them you’ll see what I mean. I’m not worried about a light telling me that my brakes have failed. I think I would know that lol ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-V4RHiQrfVlE.html

@SladesVWBeetle

Would teflon tape on the brake line threads be an overkill? I think about my indoor plumbing and never do any water connections without teflon tape.
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 3 года назад
Hi Brandon, no please do not use Teflon tape on the threads of the brake line. And there’s a reason for that. Because then the end of the brake line will not seat properly and you will have a leak. But that is a very good question. Because I have done plumbing on my house, and it makes sense why you would ask that.

Hey Slade, hope this post doesn't show up twice. I lost it right at the end. lol Anyway, please don't be embarrassed about your tremor syndrome. You cant help it. I think you do a great job with the videos and I am learning from you. I have a recently purchased 72 bug that I haven't gotten on the road yet. I fix one thing and something else breaks. The car is really pretty descent condition. I had break lights when I bought it, now I don't. Master reservoir is dry. I suspect the master cylinder or switches are bad, or both. Not looking forward to changing it out. My switches on the MS are 3- wires. I think 2 Blacks and the other was striped. Do you by chance know what the designation for these are? I figure the blacks are the hot or positive leads. What's the striped one for, any idea. I cant pick up power on any of them. While messing around with all this trying to figure it out, I have now lost my headlights, GREAT! Maybe I have a ground problem. I might get it all figured out someday, lol. Thanks, EE
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 2 года назад
I am so sorry, I just seen this now! It can be very humiliating, but I try and ignore it. I guess its who I am..LOL Okay, are you sure there is no leak, since it is dry...Underneath? Also, I do believe that the third wire, is for the warning light, depending on the year. Your headlights, make sure to check the ground wires. Sometimes they get corrode. And also the fuses.....and the fuse connection for corrosion! Don't get upset. the master is not too bad to change. Make sure to check all your fuses first! The switches could have went bad. I would rest them!
@luvbgrass
@luvbgrass 2 года назад
No big deal on getting back Slate. Everyone is busy and life is hectic. I did have a leak. Now I have more. Lol. I busted the line over the tunnel in front trying to figure out where the other leak was coming from. I think the wife might have been standing on the petal when I was fooling with it. Anyway. I ordered a new master, all new steel lines, and rubber lines for the brake system. I haven’t tried to install anything yet. It’s deer season. Lol The headlights problem was a broken wire terminal at the fuse block. I may be bugging (no pun intended) you again for advise. I appreciate your video’s and your help. Thanks. EE

Another question Slade. Was it a lot of trouble to get all the air out of the lines after you finished up. Im in the process of replacing all the lines and the Master Cylinder also. I dont know if I should fool with trying to bench bleed that with everything being replaced. Thanks EE
@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 2 года назад
Honestly it wasn’t real bad. I didn’t bench bleed, but I’m not saying not to. I opened all the bleeders and let them start dripping. While I kept checking the reservoir so it didn’t run dry! As each one became a consistent drip, I would close that one off. Be patient and sip a drink and keep waiting!! that’s called…..“Gravity Bleeding” Then grabbed my wife. And had her push the pedal to the floor, while bleeding each wheel cylinder. Not pump the pedal!! …..just push straight to the floor! Harder pressure!! I start at the passenger rear, then drivers rear, then passenger front, then drivers front. Hope that all made sense!! Please keep checking your reservoir! Don’t let it run dry while bleeding!

@SladesVWBeetle
@SladesVWBeetle 3 года назад
Honestly I didn’t bench bleed. After everything was buttoned up, I loosened all four bleeders and let it gravity bleed. As each one started a steady drip I would tighten that bleeder closed. While...keeping an eye on the reservoir so it didn’t run dry. Then, after all we’re tightened from dripping. I then had someone press the pedal firmly, while manually bleeding. Worked perfectly well!
