Hi Larry. Hope all is well with you. I watched this video a couple of days ago, on the cell phone. Didn't get a chance to comment, mid work week, busy! As always, most enjoyable! Love the tech related videos. All the smells that one associates with the air cooled V.W.s' came flooding back to my memory. Makes me want what I haven't got, not a good thing. As a result I limit my vintage V.W. viewing to a couple of channels, a couple of times a week. You take care now, keep up the good work my friend!
That's a lot of oil vapor scavenging goin' on. Great video. I just loved the video. It takes me back. Back in the 1970's we had to run an NOx device that retarded the timing, in Socal. That made them run bad. It reduced oxides of nitrogen.
Found one of your vid's loved it so watched them all you got me wanting to get to work on my bug. Just one project before that and I will be all in I've had the bug since I was 16 now 28 and never got to drive it got it running once but now with some new skills under my belt I'm going to turn it into the Baja I've always wanted, just a lot of custom work it's a super beetle. Keep up the great vids love your passion and chilled way of working not just loosing your shit over all the bus throws at you.👍
Thank you for your kind words! I think your next project sounds fantastic. With the wide range of available off-road aftermarket parts, There are many possibilities for what can be done with suspension nowadays. As for the Bus, She is one crazy ride! 🤙
Dude... LOLLLLLLL Go wiggle a rut. 🙂 I'm still scared on the cam, I need to put a 1/2 mile trip on it, No reverse in the new gearbox, but I worked that out. Hey Burning Man road trip,,,, What do you think?
Hi SuperDude, any updates on solving the mystery? Really appreciate you sharing your collective experience and knowledge on keepin our old aircoolers running. I got the same oil filter location setup and it's workin out great. Chafing gear and through-sheetmetal grommets everywhere makes for a safe and happy motor for sure! Im thinking valve adjustment too...let us know whatcha found 🙂✌️
Tim! I'm thinking it was the Push Rod for the fuel pump, I robbed the whole unit from the old engine not knowing the tip was worn, you'll see on todays video. I need to ad a oil cooler and fan. Oil temp was at 204F @ 102 degrees outside. Than run some stainless hose with an8 fittings. I'll do the same to the breather hoses too. I was running the air cleaner right on the carburetor. I need to put a larger inlet tube from the roof to the engine bay, so I can get the cooler / clean outside to the carburetor. Peace! 🤙
You are getting there. Hope to see you on the road soon! We did visit one of your adventure spots. Thank you, I'm glad we got to see it for ourselves. Zzyzx rd.!
Hey Chrissy! I can't wait! Zzyzx rd. Was the fountain working in the lake? The grounds were pretty rundown when I was there, Lack of Federal Funding. Peace :o)
No, the fountain was not working. Im sure it would look beautiful if it was functioning. They had some type of class going on or tour. The swamp coolers were running in the rooms....
Are you running the stock manifold or the larger one that’s offered these days? Curious on your opinion of the 39 over duals…I’m tempted to go back to a single carb. Keep up the great work and videos!
Hi Dave, I have modified the stock manifold by machining the flange to open up to the 39 mm Carburetor and using a spring-loaded honing tool to smooth out the inside. (hours) I have also been working on getting the 39 Carb as close to perfect as possible. However, I need to install a 2 1/2-inch pipe for the outside cool air filter as the current air cleaner is in a dusty location and is drawing in hot air. Once that's done, I'll need to make some jet changes. In the future, I plan to try out Kadrons and compare their performance. Additionally, I have a remote oil cooler with a fan on the way, and I'll be using -8 fittings on the new hose. 🤙 - Larry
