7.5 would be more fair especially with the much nicer headunit and virtual cockpit but I would pick the mk7 regardless

Ahh, boys, this is ace, proper quality content & comparison! I'm always going to be a MK4 girl (no surprises there!), but I'm with Dan, I prefer the 7 / 7.5. The Mk8 is nice to look at, but I wouldn't own one 🤪 great work lads !

Ok guys, I’m an old guy (almost 67) with a long beard, too. I’ve gone from a MK 4 GTI to a MK6 Golf TDI to a MK7 Golf to a MK8 GTI. I, too had some concerns about the cost cutting measures and the infotainment system on the GTI8. When I saw my new car on the lot (a pomelo yellow 40th Anniversary Edition, manual), I thought it to be the most beautiful car I’d ever laid eyes on, now this coming from one who loved the MK6 and MK7 designs as well. Once I drove the MK 8, it was all over; I was sold! When I bought my MK7 Golf, I test drove the 2017 GTI as well, so I got a feel of what a newer GTI feels like. The MK8 blew all other VW’s I’d ever driven (including my 1986 VW Scirocco 16V) out of the water! Wow! So I was sold. After owning it six weeks, I love it even more. The infotainment system was no problem at all to master, no big deal, much to my surprise. I would, though, prefer knobs for climate control. Also, my car has the adaptive suspension/steering which I can adjust to my mood on any given day. I love it in every way, save for: no under seat storage bins, no hydraulic strut for the hood (bonnet for you guys), no felt lining in the glove box. Yeah, not a fan of the space-saver spare tire, but in 50 years of driving, I’ve only ever had one flat tire, so not an issue. Also, not a fan of no engine cover, too, but from a practical standpoint, that allows heat to be more effectively dissipated, and I don’t spend a lot of time under there anyway. So, the bottom line is this: I’m very happy with my purchase, the car is a looker, and it gives me more smiles per mile than any other car I’ve owned. Is it perfect? No. But then, no motor vehicle I’ve ever owned has been. But the MK8 comes close and does what it’s supposed to do: fahrvergnugen!

I honestly prefer the looks of the 8 over the 7.5, it looks a bit more grown up and sensible. The front bumper looks a lot better as well imho.

3dr Golf vs 5dr Golf in a supermarket car park. 5dr Golf wins - way more practical because of the smaller doors. Just saying! Also saying that the Mk7.5 is the best of the breed 🤣 DSG of course! 🥰 ps: mine doesn't have underseat trays

I prefer the MK7 over the MK8 Golf. The touchscreen interior is just annoying to me. There was nothing wrong with physical buttons and analog gauges.

But one costs 18k more and u need to hit the touchscreen 9 times to change the temp in your car while the steering wheel battles u while u inadvertently hit the touch buttons on the wheel which distract u from traffic causing a 22% chance of crashing. But THAT car has an extra 18 hp! TOUGH decision.

Mk7 look old and outdated and as an owner of a MK4 R32 and Gti Mk8, Mk8 feels great. Looks more updated, lights look meaner on the 8, and rides on rails. y’all are haters. What’s Apache is your beard hahaha
