Nice video. Subsequent to purchasing my VW ID4 in 2022, and having been a driver for over 50 years, this was my first experience driving with adaptive cruise control. Needless to say, it was initially somewhat intimidating. I wouldn't think of driving without it now. Thanks for another great video. Art. Oceanside, CA.

Thank you Martin, very informative video. I recently ordered the ID.7 and I did not test the ACC at all in my test drive, but it seems to be way more advanced than my kona. If it also had a speed limit offset setting, that would make the preview modes actually usable, but it is amazing that they work as well as they do.

That's brilliant Martin. I look forward to your future videos covering the features on the VAG MEB platform cars.

I have disabled road sign recognition on my Toyota because there are too many errors. Eg Weight limit 10 tons is read as 10 mph and the scariest is if you follow an EU vehicle with a Max. Speed 90kph on its tail gate! Then not ignoring speed limits that apply to certain vehicles and speed limits if lights are flashing, etc. etc. I think you are right that there needs better regulation of road signs.

Another great Video, seems like you’re warming to the VW , how does it compare to the Mini Electric? It’s a tempting choice of EV especially because of the improvements in battery efficiency and range as well as all the technology. I still dream of an i3 in Melbourne Red , but you’re tempting me into a rethink 😢. Thanks again, see you in the next One !

Thanks! It had a couple of issues which have now been sorted and I am actually loving it (despite it being quite a bland car at a first glance). The i3 is more of an emotional purchase, especially if you want a quirky car which really will go down as a unique piece of engineering in the history books. But in my opinion there is no doubt that the VW is a more practical choice overall, especially when you consider they don't cost that much more on the used market.

Very informative video! This definitely came in handy understanding how the system works on my ID.3 Max Pro Performance! OBDeleven is also a handy little bit of kit for the ID.3 so that ID cars with upto ID software 3.x can remember where you left the lane assist setting (just remember you'll need the bonnet open when initially setting things up using the OBDeleven dongle and phone/tablet software, but it works perfectly.)

Great video and dispels a lot of the criticism that has been levelled at the VW group software. Interesting to see the added benefit of INTELLIGENT Adaptive Cruise Control so the system can use mapping data as well as the car’s camera and radar sensors. I note though that the driver has to be quite disciplined in using the indicators when changing lanes in situations where this would not be necessary with no following traffic. Am I right in saying that the ACC will automatically accelerate the car when it registers that the vehicle is moving into a high speed limit zone and does need you to confirm this before accelerating? I think we have all become accustomed to thinking Tesla sets the gold standard but perhaps we haven’t appreciated how some of the legacy manufacturers are catching up. Thanks for your efforts in producing this video.
@MartinKarel
@MartinKarel Месяц назад
Indeed correct that the ACC does all the adjustments fully automatically with no driver input needed. It just does it perfectly by the book - waiting to pass the speed sign before it starts accelerating and if the upcoming speed limit decrease is mapped, it will slow down in advance to make sure it passes the sign already at the new limit.

For everybody looking for a VW, go for the Travel Assist. Any drives on the Motorway or A roads become so relaxing. Just supervise your car or tap the indicator to overtake.

I would say Audi's new driver assistant and especially BMW Drive assist pro are even more advanced. But for the price the travel assist is amazing ! Hundreds of times better than Tesla's autopilot.

IDs don’t only use the camera to set the speed, but they rely heavily on HERE maps information

Thanks! I have done a video of the Tesla FSD system in the UK for Wisely Automotive: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A2LPluskqag.htmlfeature=shared And I have also done a full video of the HDA2 (in a Hyundai IONIQ 5 which is technically identical to the EV6): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ci-kvKPBbIQ.htmlfeature=shared Unfortunately, Tesla had to actually remove some functionality since to comply with more stringent European regulations. And Hyundai removed the front corner radar sensors from the latest IONIQ 5s due to the chip shortage (so the cars dropped to HDA 1.5 with no automated lane changes).

Do you know if the Travel Assist systems in Porsche are the same as VW?
@MartinKarel
@MartinKarel Месяц назад
Don’t have much experience with the Porsche lane centring and I would love to know for certain, but it sure appears so. At the very least, even if they are different under the bonnet, they have to be designed to the same spec as they feel very similar.

If you disable the speed limiter and restart the car must you disable it again, or does it remember your selection?
@MartinKarel
@MartinKarel Месяц назад
This not being a brand new ID.3, the speed limiter is purely an optional convenience feature. Hence, even if you were using it previously it will be just in standby mode after startup and you need to press the RES button on the steering wheel for it to actually start enforcing the limit. However, this is probably different on the ID.3s rolling off the line now to comply with the latest regulations.

I'm driving Tesla Model 3 2024 and its TACC is very bad in comparison to my previous Skoda Superb or my wife's Kodiaq. It's scared a lot, breaking and screaming for no reasons all the time 🤦‍♂
@MartinKarel

Unfortunately matches my experience with Teslas. It used to be very good in the past but people started not paying attention and blaming Autopilot for crashes, so I supposed Tesla just cranked up the sensitivity. 🤷‍♂️

It would be nice if a number of the idiot motoring journalists watched your video. The knee jerk reaction by these idiots with regard to the haptic buttons and software were in large part imo responsible to poor sales. It is worrying just how much influence hacks can have.
