I really appreciate you for making this video. It is exactly the problem that I am having with my 2004 New Beetle, 2.0 engine. It took a while to figure out where the radiator fluid was coming out. The smell was easily detectable well in advance of finding the location of the leak. The housing split along a seam in the casting. I imagine the extremely cold weather we had last year was at least partially responsible for the crack. I don't believe I had the correct blend of antifreeze in the system even though the car had been worked on by a reputable foreign car repair company. Cheers. Just the advice I needed.

Really useful video! I have an 03 Jetta which had the same problem, and I was putting it off for way too long. The coolant temp sensor housing on my car was brittle and actually broke when I was pulling off the large hose! Everything's back together now, and I'm really glad I finally did it. Thanks, man!

@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 3 года назад
Thank you! We didn't end up doing the thermostat housing on this one. However, it is VERY easy to do, probably easier than the coolant temp sensor housing. After you drain the coolant, just remove the hose clamp, then the hose. After that remove the 2 bolts holding it in and it comes right off. Replace the thermostat to, sometimes they get stuck so just pull on it a bit. But have a bucket ready as more coolant is behind the thermostat and will leak as soon as you pull it out. Replace with new parts and don't over tighten the aluminum bolts. Make sure to "burp" the system so no air is in the system after doing all this as well. 👍

I’m trying to remove the bolt that holds the metal line and the part of the flange that mounts to the engine block. The bolt is already about 85% out, but after about 3 rotations the bolt clicks and recesses those 3 rotations. Any ideas how to get it out the rest of the way?
@Mechani_Cole
@Mechani_Cole 3 года назад
Is it because the metal on the metal line is hitting the top of the bolt? It should just come right out. I had to push up on the pipe to get it out of the way to remove the bolt. That would be my only guess, hope this helps🤙🏼

Hey what part of the country do you live? Have you been working on Vws along time. Love your channel. Your funny. I already replaced my thermostat, waTer pump, cool fans and ac hoses. Haha I hope they did the sensor when they put fan in but I doubt it. I guess I get to do that now myself. Because I can't trust anyone around here to even put the manifold back on right. My car is still leaking coolant. I been refilling it every two weeks and start sweating if I am getting anything out trunk with car on. It feels so hot by exhaust. I guess I'll try the flange next. I love youtube. I understand my car now as good as some non mechanic men and keeps me from getting ripped off anywhere now. I have to put the stupid battery connections together tomorrow. My computer seems cray cray after battery got jumped. I pray it fixes some shit. Anyway I am waiting to see if I'm rich or with good credit by the time the electric vw bus comes out in USA. I love all the videos and pics of it. Especially the buzz. Of course I wish I could remodel the old vws but they cost alot to keep up and Renovate and not always reliable or emission friendly. Unfortunately the old ones they are cop magnets when your in Bumfuck nowhere but I would love one still. Even traveling the country in my Chevy venture was like I had arrest me on my plates. Which i thought it looked like a 2001 mom van. With the vhs feature i thought it screamed luxury and class. They didn't like it one bit though. I would probably still be in prison if the stupid thing didn't have so many tire issues and eat rack and pinions. Hopefully once I get my buzz I'll have better luck haha if I get it

The plastic clamps on VWs are all going to break even if you use the right tool. Every time you disconnect and break something you have to come up with a new creative way to keep it in place because the plastic snap broke off the end. Always happens with VW.
